What are you looking forward to the most this 40th anniversary season?
Voicetek replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island
Absolutely! It's about time for another one of those, isn't it? -
Little Big Planet is a great game! Could make for a very unique kids area too
-
I rode it a few weeks ago and it definitely looked like there was a lot of new wood, especially on the second half of the ride. It did seem a lot smoother!
-
Now that's what I'm talking about! I had no idea that existed...very cool!
-
I love theming, but I feel like it's a different type of fun. When I go to Disney World, one of my favorite rides is Splash Mountain at The Magic Kingdom. This is a heavily themed dark/flume ride and is some of the most fun I've ever had on a ride. Now compare that to extreme coasters and it's totally different. I love the coasters at KI, but I definitely wouldn't mind a highly themed ride either!

It was neither a life guard nor a procedure, it was a crazy man holding a voodoo doll under the water in hopes he could drown the person that doll was linked to

I had talked about this in a previous post about theming the kids area into something around Mario or Sonic, etc. I mentioned turning Boo Blasters into a trip through Bowser's Castle shooting ghosts, goombas, turtles, etc. Plus a Sonic the Hedgehog coaster just seems natural...Sonic's fast, coasters are fast. Plus I think the characters are appealing and would make for some great figures/statues around the area!

Not sure if a hairstyle counts...but the other night while in line for The Monster, I saw a guy wearing the greatest mullet I have ever seen! He must have been the King of the Mullets because not only was it extra poofy in the front and long and wavy in the back, he also have some blonde highlighted streaks in the back. It was classic! I haven't ever seen a mullet quite like that. He should be proud!

So my girlfriend and I decided to take a short trip out to the park on Friday night for a relaxing evening. I was having a major lower back flare up from an issue resulting from a car accident back in 2004. Since I was in pain, I knew I wouldn't be riding too much, but we decided to go anyway and just enjoy the park. We arrived about 7:30 and the first thing we did was ride Boo Blasters. I'm not a huge fan, but I kinda started a park tradition way back when it was Phanton Theater to ride whatever dark ride that was in that building at least once whenver I visit. From there we pretty much just walked around and took in the sights and watched the rides and the people. We stopped briefly to observe the now empty building where the Crypt was and discussed some interesting things that that space could be converted into. A 2-level dark ride anyone??? We ended up around by WindSeeker and decided to take in the Dinosaurs Alive 3-D show since it was free this year. I thought the movie was pretty good and the 3-D was amazing. I was kind of disappointed that they removed the motion seat because now they don't have the option of having any more motion movie attractions anymore. From there was decided to walk down to the Monster and give that a spin...literally! Now, I love roller coasters and anything with a huge drop, but I get a little motion sick when I'm spun around and around too much. However, I decided that it didn't look too bad and decided to ride it! Well, I think our car spun consistently the entire ride without stopping! So much for that ride! lol. That might be the last time I try that, unfortunately. After that we pretty much just walked around some more and looked in a few shops. By this time the sun was going down and it was starting to get dark and all the lights around the park were coming on! We decided to walk down and see the Peanuts area with all the lights and the characters all lit up. We really enjoy that! We did one final loop back through Planet Snoopy and headed towards the exit and left for the night. When we go to Kings Island we usually always hit up the coasters and have a great (and crazy) time. Very rarely do we just go to the park and enjoy some of the simpler rides and just take in the sights and the atmosphere. I must say that it was a very relaxing and enjoyable evening for the 2 of us, and something that we don't do too often. If you've thrown your back out and don't have a whole lot of time, that makes for a very worthwhile visit!

Does Kings Island need a New Wooden Roller Coaster?
Voicetek replied to TheBEASTunchained's topic in KI Polls
That's good, I wasn't mad either. I just made a comment about the 2 wooden coasters and got jumped on because I left out the Woodstock. I'm an adult who doesn't have any kids, so no, I don't really find my way back to that coaster at all, so it's not really one that I pay much much attention to. I remember loving it when I was a kid, but haven't really been on it much since. And since the topic of the post asks do we need another wooden coaster, I was assuming they were talking about another adult/extreme wooden coaster, so that's why I only mentioned the 2 that we have now...The Racer and The Beast. I wasn't trying to downplay the Woodstock by any means. -

Yes I did read your post, but I just always considered The Beastie or "Woodstock Express" to be more of a kids coaster since it was located in kiddy land or what was then Hanna-Barbera land. I just never thought of coaster enthusiasts coming to KI and being all excited to ride the Woodstock. The Beastie was the first coaster I rode when I was a kid, because I was too short/scared to ride the bigger ones. So no, I never (personally) considered that coaster an adult coaster. Not saying that adults can't ride it, I have before, but when I think of "main" wooden coaster, I think more of the two bigger ones which would be The Racer and The Beast. PS: Sorry if I offended anyone by saying that Woodstock Express was a kiddy coaster. I don't think anyone is a baby for riding it if they really like it. I ride what I like, you all are free to ride what you like too! -

Maybe I'm completely mistaken, but isn't the Woodstock Express what used to be The Beastie? -

Then what's Woodstock Express? Sorry, I was unaware that you ride kiddy coasters. When I said 2 coasters, I was referring to The Racer and The Beast, I wasn't including the wooden coaster in kiddy land. -
Look at the second post in that thread and extend the red line. The alignment would be perfect even if it was where Action Theater is now. And now that I think about it, I too would love to have seen it in that spot. Imagine riding The Racer and seeing WindSeeker right in front of you as you crest the hill where the red and blue sides split off toward the turnaround. Exactly!

I was wondering the same thing myself!

Does Kings Island need a New Wooden Roller Coaster?
Voicetek replied to TheBEASTunchained's topic in KI Polls
No, I don't think so. The Beast is fine. The Racer is fine. Son of Beast was a huge fail it seems. I don't see them investing in a new one. Also, it seems as if wooden coasters are not as smooth. I remember riding Son of Beast the first couple seasons it was open and it just felt like it was going to tear me apart. So no, I'm happy with the 2 wooden coasters we have now and don't really need a third. -
I agree with you, I like the general area it's in but like you said, the Action Theater is being somewhat blocked now which makes it feel sort of crammed in there. I wish there was something that could've been done about that.
-
That's right, I do remember the bundle deal they did last year if you did both the movie and the attraction. I'm glad to hear the movie is free this year though, I kind of wanted to see it last year but didn't feel like spending the extra cash. Thanks for the info!
-
The movie that goes with the Dinosaurs Alive attraction that is now in the Action Theater is $5. At least it was last year. Thank you for last year's information. It's free this year. I was unaware that the movie was free. I have not been back there to check this year. I was just going by what was on the web site just a few minutes ago. They still have it listed at $5, perhaps they've not updated their info?

LOL yeah they lost WindSeeker! That would be crazy! I like the general area it's in, that's not what I'm saying. You'd have basically the same view if they just moved it back a bit. To me it just seems a bit crammed in the middle of the walkway.
-
Does anyone else feel like WindSeeker feels sort of crammed into the area that it is? It feels sort of squished into that little space right in front of the Action Theater entrance and The Vortex exit. It seems a little misplaced to me. I think I would've liked to have seen them actually tear down the Action Theater building and put WindSeeker back there. They already had a great queue line already built and it's not like they're REALLY using that building for anything useful anymore anyway except that overprice dinosaurs mini-movie. I think they just thought, "Hey we need a new ride, where do we put it? I know, let's cram it in the back by The Vortex in the middle of the walkway!"

Gosh...Some people's children!

Why the heck would they put this "Coke Swelter Stopper" inside Soak City? "Inside the Swelter Stopper, frosty bursts of air and snow welcome visitors to an icy oasis in June." Yeah that's exactly what I want when I'm soaking wet, a nice frosty burst of air! I would, however, enjoy a nice frosty burst of air and a refreshing Coke if I were walking around the main, dry park. Seems a little off to me.

Compared to a majority of the Disney Parks, Cedar Fair's (and even the former Paramount's) ride cloning is miniscule. Minus Kings Island and Kings Dominion (with the Eiffel Tower & International Street), at least Cedar Fair doesn't copy entire theme parks and paste them into different locations across the country. Need I remind you of the five Magic Kingdoms - Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland - and the multitudes of cloned attractions, such as, but not limited to, it's a small world, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, etc? I don't mind "cloned" parks if they're spread out all over the world. I think it's nice that Disney brings their attraction to people all over the world. It lets more people be able to experience their amazing rides! I'm hoping that Disney will eventually bring Cars Land to Florida because I doubt I'll ever make it out to California.
