Why is that? Did they have to push the kids around the track if they got stuck or something? Yep, or if they tipped over, or the kid got off and ran around, or if the kid stopped turning the wheel... etc, etc, etc. Oh gosh I never thought of that. Yeah that wouldn't have been fun at all!

I have a crazy story from Hanna-Barbera Land! My sister and I always took a ride on the Hanna-Barbera carousel when we visited. I was a Scooby-Doo fanatic so of course I always had to ride on the Scooby. She preferred Dino, so she always picked him. Well I remember my mom lifted my sister up on the Dino and made sure she was holding on and secure. My mom took a few steps forward to put me up on the Scooby (Scooby-Doo was located right in front of Dino) and while she was getting me on Scooby, my sister let go of the bar and she slipped off of Dino, fell off completely backwards, and totally hit the metal platform floor. I remember my mom freaking out and us having to leave the ride and take her to first aid. Crazy day!

Ok that makes sense. I was born in September of 1980 so I would've only been 2 when the Smurfs opened. That explains why I have such a brief, faint memory of the original Enchanted Voyage.

Do you guys remember the little trains that you sat in and there was the little wheel thing in front of you that you turned with your hands and made the little train go around the track? I loved that thing!

I can still remember entering the building and seeing Gargamel to the right. The inside of that ride had a very distinctive smell to it also! But do you remember the original EV before the Smurfs?I personally like the original better. I do remember this! I have literally just a split-second memory of this left, but I'd be willing to bet this was one of my first rides ever at the park! Do you know the year it was removed?

I'm trying to remember where exactly that elephant fountain was. It seems like it sat near some restrooms.

Yes that has to be what I'm remembering cause it was right around that area cause I remember McScrappy's Farm being close. Gosh I had forgotten all about that! Thanks for the reminder!

Shaggy, what was the House of Cards exactly? I remember that there was some type of fun house. I was pretty young, but I seem to remember like slanted floors and crazy mirrors. Was that by chance the House of Cards? If not, what was it and does anyone remember the name of the fun house?

I liked the elephant too! I would stand there as a kid and wait for it to blow water out of it's trunk and try to get splashed a little. It's cool that he sits out by Jungle Jim's now so I can still see him! And yes, there was a place where you could sit under vines. It was a tunnel that connected 2 of the walk ways and it was right over by the entrance to Hanna-Barbera Land. It would bring you out by the log flume over in River Town. I loved walking through there. It's a shame it's gone!

Yep, I've always thought that a Mario Land would be much more fun and appealing than Planet Snoopy. It just makes more sense for today.

Wow that's crazy! I've ridden it at night before, but never by myself. I wonder if it might have had something to do with the lack of weight weighing the train down? Usually the entire train is full, that's a lot of weight. Could maybe explain why the train felt like it was going to fly off the track, it wasn't being weighted down by all the extra people.

I started going to Kings Island back in the early 80's, probably around 82. My earliest memory from Hanna-Barbera Land was the old Enchanted Voyage ride before it was the Smurfs. What are some of your memories of Hanna-Barbera Land? What rides/attractions were your favorites? If you have photos, feel free to share those too!

My bad! I'm quite a bit Native American and the term "Indian" didn't really bother me too much. It's hard when you're raised calling them Indians then all of a sudden they switch it to Native Americans to be PC. Still trying to break the habit!

I loved themed rides and I love animatronics...I always have. As primitive as they are, I love the natives in the final tunnel of Adventure Express. I think that's why I loved Phantom Theater so much as well as the previous dark rides including The Enchanted Voyage and The Smurfs. Also, I miss the animatronic people that used to be on the train ride. Does anyone else remember this? They had indians that would shoot at the people in the fort, they had some guy getting water dumped over him by a lady, and also some guy in the black smith shop pounding away at some metal. These additions made the train ride memorable.

I love the defunct ride merchandise idea. How about collectible figurines of the Phantom Theater cast of characters or something like that? I think that would be pretty sweet!
-
Yeah what's up with that? Just cause I'm a newbie on here doesn't mean I'm a newbie to Kings Island. I've been going there for almost 30 years now! I feel like I've experienced the park (and the attractions) enough to form a valid opinion. Oh well

It's all good! I appreciate the support anyways lol

Girl, you did not just say that. But put in a nice pond and trees, pork flavor! Girl? I'm not a girl! And you can't disagree that that ride was starting to suck in recent years. I loved it as Tomb Raider, but that past couple of seasons have been just pathetic as The Crypt. No offense.

I really hope they don't make this a permanent "Haunt" attraction! Common KI. In a 6 month season Halloween Haunt is only running for 1 month. Why would they waste such an amazing structure/space on a haunt attraction that would only be running for 1 month. I'm tired of KI treating Halloween Haunt as if it's the vehicle that's making KI run. There are other spaces and buildings that are just being used for haunt attraction 1 month out of their operating season. Why not utilize those spaces for the entire season? I pray this isn't the fate of the empty Crypt structure. Please God no! Give us something better than that! I do believe HH brings in a lot of money for KI, and I'm sure any haunt running for 1 month in that building will bring more people through the queue than the previous ride did in the last couple of years. Well yeah, the previous ride sucked! I remember when it first opened as Tomb Raider and the entire queue line was filled to capacity! If they actually put some thought into that space and made it something fun/unique/cool then yeah, it would definitely bring the people in. KI shouldn't be like, "Well our crappy ride didn't do well so I guess that means we'll just shut it down and use that space for a haunt attraction." To me that's just lazy. They need to be more creative and come up with a truly unique family attraction to fill that space. Something that will make people want to ride it, not just another half-butted, lazy attempt to re-theme a previously used space.

What are you looking forward to the most this 40th anniversary season?

I wish! It would've been really cool if they would've turned Dinosaurs Alive into a raft type ride where you could ride a boat through the woods and see the dinosaurs. They could've still had a walking trail too for those who wanted to take their time and stop and look at the dinosaurs more closely.
