  1. When I was a kid I never understood why the entrance walkway was called International Street until my father pointed out the different architecture. I figured there was some connection between Coney Mall and Coney Island when I was really young.
  2. Chicka Boom (Don't You Just Love It)- Daddy Dewdrop Pop Muzik- M Ring my Bell- Anita Ward Heart of Glass- Blondie Power of Love- Huey Lewis and The News Heaven is One Step Away- Eric Clapton
  3. I'm open to a rename, as long as it's still "Coney" related. I liked the "Coney Fair" idea. Hopefully, if there is a revamp, a retrack and repaint of our beloved Racer is part of the plans. *Edited to avoid two posts in a row.
  4. When I think of a Centurion, I usually think of a guard at the gate of a palace, which makes it sound like a front gate coaster, which Matt Ouimet already said that Kings Island wouldn't be getting a front gate coaster because the main gate plaza is already good. I think a name like Samurai would work because of the swift and quick movements and transitions throughout the ride.
  5. There's a lot more "Coney" left in Coney Mall than German theming in Oktoberfest, though. Action Zone still lives up to its name and Rivertown is slowly making a comeback with the old time look of the new Funnel Cake stand that opened last year and Mystic Timbers this season. Coney Island certainly would have evolved over time as well.
  6. Coney Island did have the picnic grove. Maybe the rumored smokehouse will have a picnic style seating. In my opinion, retheming and renaming Coney Mall away from the Cincinnati Coney Island theming would be forgetting where Kings Island came from.
  7. I agree that it isn't a reliable source and looking at it it doesn't make sense for the ridership to be in that range, at least not THAT low. The ride didn't always launch at full capacity. When I went last season to ride it for the first and last time, the trains were mostly empty.
  8. I found it. It was on a comment off of a YouTube video regarding Mean Streak. Not the best source to cite, but that is what I read.
  9. I don't remember exactly, it was in a forum somewhere, perhaps on here? It was somewhere online.
  10. It might have been 150,000. Ridership was still low compared to both The Racer and The Beast
  11. The blue side was a bit rougher this year from what I have noticed, but that's not something some track work can't fix. Colossus did have a larger footprint and had a lot more potential for the treatment.
  12. I have read comments on YouTube advocating an RMC conversion for The Racer, citing Twisted Colossus. Agreeing with what has been stated before, it would be a huge mistake to convert the ride due to its history and what it stands for in the Coney Mall sector. I've seen sizable lines for it even with the introduction of Mystic Timbers this season and it annually clocks in over a million riders each season. Mean Streak, from what I have read, clocked only 15,000 riders during its last full season of operation back in 2015.
  13. Classical music versus pop music has no effect on guest attendance. As someone else mentioned before, nobody is going to stop visiting the park or leave upon arrival just because they play orchestral and instrumental pieces on International Street.
  14. I will say this, a couple people I work with complained about the classical music. I felt like I was in the minority of people who enjoyed it whenever I worked on International Street. I agreed with them on the fact it was a bit short and could be repetitive at times (There could have been more classical pieces, like what they played in the 70's and 80's), but it was an improvement when introduced in my opinion, nonetheless. I always found great enjoyment listening to "La Vie En Rose," "Rhapsody In Blue," and the theme to The Reivers by John Williams. This week I tried drowning out the pop music while walking down International Street by humming the "Valdres March" by Johannes Hansen (I remember reading on here that it used to be played on International Street). From what it seemed, though, some guests were very pleased with the classical playlist. A couple of times while working, some guests noticed the David Davidson rendition of Nino Rota's "Speak Softly Love" and instantly recognized it from The Godfather. That was one of the things I appreciated with the playlist; it not only provided a getaway experience and added atmosphere, blending with the fountain, the Tower, and Bruce Bushman's European architecture, but it helped others connect when they hear a familiar cue. Almost everyone knows John Williams' score from ET: The Extra Terrestrial, some recognized "Gusty Garden Galaxy" from Super Mario Galaxy, others picked out Hans Zimmer's "Homeland" and connected it with the film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. The theme to The Cider House Rules reminded me of the Pure Michigan commercials. Hopefully it returns sometime in the future, perhaps the near future. Only time will tell.
  15. I'm an associate at the park. Would it matter if I mention that if I decide to email them?
  16. I noticed that they were playing the park wide music on International Street rather than the classical playlist this weekend. Hopefully it's just this weekend and not a permanent change.
  17. I noticed that too. Would be interesting and cool if they are also used all season as replacements for the old marquee lighting that used to line to rooflines of the buildings.
  18. Taft initially owned both sets of land on both sides of I-71, the side where Kings Island is and the side where the Golf Center (Jack Nicklaus Golf Course) and Lindner Family Tennis Center are located.
  19. They both look to be from 1980, as the Skyride is missing and Woodstock Express (then The Beastie) had the tunnel at the bottom of the first drop.
  20. It would be cool to see a Raptor coaster in Coney Mall, they could give it a Coney Island themed name, like the Wildcat. Or find a location in Oktoberfest and call it Bavarian Beetle.
  21. I don't see any need for any of our current wooden coasters to receive the I box conversion. They all play a significant role in the parks history and I didn't find any of them to be as rough as Mean Streak when I rode it last season. A topper track woodie or a T-Rex / Raptor could be a possibility, though.
  22. From what I have heard, Coney Confections will remain standing where it is.
  23. I was wondering, does the Attitudes building have any remnants of the Cuddle Up, signifying it's previous existence? I have seen some metal plating on the sales floor and other places in the building each time I've been in there. Would be interesting to take pictures of before it slips into history.
  24. The Royal Fountain is 320 feet long and I believe 90 feet wide. It was designed by Charles Flatt, former manager of Coney Island's Sunlite Pool. The fountain was built by Fountain Specialists Company of Milford, Ohio. The pool holds about 600,000 gallons and sends about 10,000 gallons of water through the pipes at one time.
