Yes, I knew that SOB is indeed a hyper coaster. Why were all of those larger or -est coasters built? Bragging rights. Something to advertise to draw people in which mostly would include the general public. They probably had coaster geeks in mind as well, but surely you don't believe they built it simply to satisfy that small demographic. You make it seem that is the only reason that they would build KK, TTD, SOB, or MF. And if every park was truley in it for the enthusiasts, why even bother building other attractions since it seems you think only the coaster communities' opinions really matter? Why would KI have dropped out of the coaster race if it's the coaster community that matters most? Because they are the minority, not the majority.

For someone who gets all of his information from coaster sites, you sure don't read much. I've seen it here, on coasterbuzz, and other coaster sites that people have been wanting some type of hyper coaster built at KI for years. I've heard it since I've joined these forums. I have said it myself. If KI listened to me so closely or anyone else from the coaster community, we'd have a lot more coasters than what we do now. I totally disagree with you about movie reviews. I believe ET was given the thumbs down, as well as many other movies that went on to become highly popular with the general public. On rare occassions, like the two movies you suggested, they are actually right. It only proves a trend that most "coaster geeks" don't like SOB. The other person debating was the one stating about how they believe the GP is seeming to love SOB and she/he has no more proof that this is true than you have that they do not. I never claimed I know how the GP feels about SOB. But I also never claimed that the coaster community alone speaks for everyone.

I'm not saying throw out the opinions of us coaster geeks. What I am saying is that KI has millions of visitors every year. A few hundred thousand (if there are even that many, a small sampling)coaster geeks do not represent the opinion of the entire general public who visit anually. You're making generalizations. You are making the conclusion that since most coaster enthusiasts don't like SOB, then it must mean the GP doesn't like it and you just don't know that. And no, if there was actual data that represents the GP, then I wouldn't say, well, they are enthusiasts, so we can't count them. Fact of the matter is, there is no real representation of what the GP thinks. Just as witnessing a small crowd of marathoning guests does not represent the opinions of the GP, neither do the opinions of the coaster community. And I do listen to what the coaster community thinks, but I also take it with a grain of salt because I'm not going to decide whether or not to ride a coaster based upon what someone else thinks just like I won't refuse to go see a movie just because some people have stated that they don't like it. I go and see the movie or ride that coaster for myself and make up my own mind. Something I would suggest everyone do. As far as coaster events go, I couldn't really care. They don't sway my opinion to go or not to go. Coaster sites wouldn't drop off the planet just because they couldn't have an event just for them. I suppose you think the new coaster(if that's what is being built) is being built to satisfy the coaster community because people on here and other boards have been whining for years about how KI needs something like this?

But, we are not comparing one coaster against another. We are only trying to figure out if the GP loves or hates SOB (and the gp does not need to compare from one coaster to the next to know whether or not they like said coaster). The coaster geeks are not enough of a basis to determine whether or not the GP likes or dislikes this coaster, which is really the arguement. I think we can all agree that the enthusiasts don't like SOB, but as stated before, their opinions do not make up enough of the GP's opinions to even determine what the GP likes or dislikes. Like I said before, you would have to survey every person who rode SOB over at least a three year period before you can even START to come to any conclusions at all about what they like or don't like. Both sides that have been debating are only drawing from a SMALL sample of guests and neither arguement can DEFINITIVELY represent the GP's opinion.
  5. I love this quote! Funny, though cause the author admits to being one of those coaster geeks.
  6. From what I understand, we need to be talking to the Canadians, at least as far as drilling for new oil. Personally, I'd rather us get away from being dependent on crude oil all together.
  7. KIBeast replied to Cody's topic in Rumors
Ok, then to me, it makes your arguement less valid then, if you are basing everything off of entusiasts' opinions. We all know us coaster nerds only make up .000001% of their customer base. I was trying to be polite in saying that you are both right and you are both wrong.
  8. It will only intrude on the parking lot, not the park itself. That's where the legal battle is.
  9. What!? Paramount bought Coney? J/K
  10. KIBeast replied to Cody's topic in Rumors
Let me just say this...I don't think either of you have enough data to say definitively whether or not the GP likes SOB. What you both have said are true, but like I said here or in another thread, what you both have is a small sampling of data, nothing more, nothing less. And until someone comes along and gathers such data, both arguements are really based on incomplete data. You both presented strong arguements, but there just isn't enough there to say one way or the other.
  11. ^That looks cool. How about a spider on the Eiffel Tower? Chef, I like your classics idea as well.
  12. ^Whom are you talking to? I like your moral of the story, Woofer. However, you did not have any corrective surgery, at least none you stated. I, on the other hand, had major back surgery for 8 hours. I would like to think that things could get better down the road, but I'm not counting on it.
  13. I'll take hypercoasters for a thousand, Mr. Trebek! Interpreter, I thought DK said his biggest mistake was Disaster Transport, then TTD. I could be wrong.
  14. Amen! As some of you may know or not know, I had back surgery when I was 20. I have two titanium rods in my back due to scoliosis. I can ride coasters, at least for now. I am finding it harder and harder as the years go on to stand in lines. The pain and stiffness increases almost daily now. I was in the ER Monday night over this and missed work on Tuesday. I have a feeling that within the next 10-15 years, I'll have to use a wheelchair, at least to some degree. Thank GOD I have a loving wife whom already realizes that when we used to joke about her having to push me around in a wheelchair, that this maybe coming sooner rather than later, which is what we had both hoped would not happen until much later. Had I not had the surgery, it was predicted that I would be in a wheelchair by 40 and it would be the eventual death of me considering I had over 70 degree curvature of the spine. I would have become so bent over I would have crushed my own organs. Karen, I remember your story and I hope that everything works out well for you. I really do feel for you and I am glad that for the moment, I am ambulatory. Although it seems that is changing daily.
  15. This TR is great! I can't wait until my little one is born and we can begin the KI fun!
  16. But, why would people think that? Do they not promote their Golden Tickets for Cedar Point? I usually see one on the front of their guides about how they've been voted best amusement park for umteenth years in a row. Not to mention their coaster rankings. Has anyone seen a guide for this year?
  17. I'm going to check it out this weekend. I was going to go last week, but they weren't open during the week. They had a piece on the local news and it looks impressive. I called and it's $7.00 if you just play golf or $6.00 if you buy a ticket to the park. I'll take some pics.

Well though I never claimed to be a statistical genius I think it is made pretty obvious when all I've ever heard is cheering after the ride and watched people "marathon", if you will, the thing about 4-5 times. And, what is the difference between myself using an enthusiast internet site as a source of information, and you discrediting them, but you can use and enthusiast site, and post information as if it's valid? So the sites you bring up are to be believed, but the other sites that I brought up are just a bunch of people that just don't count? ... and I'm the one that is letting opinions get into the way of trying to substitue a fact? Ok. What I am getting at is what you and catzdrummer09 have heard is only a small sampling of public opinion. You are probably both right in what you have heard. But neither of you (and this really could include myself as well) have enough public opinion to know what the MAJORITY of the GP think. The only way you could do that would be to ask nearly every rider the opinion of SOB for at least one season. Even then, you couldn't really say that is the public's opinion of the ride, but it would at least be a much larger sampling of what the GP really thinks of this coaster. Plus, I'd like to know what the GP thinks after the modifications and removal of the loop.
  19. Yes, but this is not being built in Australia. It's in ORLANDO! No matter how you slice it, this is NOT a slight to Steve Irwin. Better take automobiles off the road too. I'm sure some celebrities have been killed in auto accidents as well. And they seem to be just as important to a lot of us as Steve was to Australia.

^I do agree with you on that. I have read a few TR's and some say the improvements helped, others do not believe so. I've seen about half and half. However, what about the GP's opinion? Seems to me THAT is probably more important than what the coaster community thinks. Albeit, you'd like to have both. Believe me tggr, I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying that maybe your opinion of the coaster is getting in the way of what you believe is the GP's opinion.
  21. If they don't like the hours, they can always go on a day when they are open later. At that specific time of year and day, that is their full operating hours, so I don't see a discount for that.
  22. KIBeast replied to Cody's topic in Rumors
You really should listen much closer. What you believe to be cheering for the ride, are actually cheers that the ride is over. If you listen even closer, you will hear the groans of pain. How do you know that for sure? Were you there at that time? Were you in the same crowd? Were you one of the patrons exiting SOB at said time? Maybe, just maybe, the improvements CF has made were enough to make this a likable ride to the GP(and maybe not to YOUR liking). And, have those coaster polls been redone after the problems have been fixed? If not, those opinions really aren't valid any more. I rode SOB last year and it was far better than previous years with the shuffling. I don't find it to be boring at all. All I'm saying is that you guys are so convinced that no one likes this ride, even after the improvements have been made. Where's the data to back that up?
  23. So, then, anyone who is not a public figure who have been attacked by sharks or other animals are less important? Now, if they were naming it Steve Irwin: The Experience, then you might have an arguement.
  24. Not bad for 1.2 million. I guess this rumor finally came true.
