It's time for KI to get a new front gate!
LongLiveTheSmurfRide replied to Shaggy's topic in Kings Island
I agree that it's pretty dated looking, but if they change it, I'll have to redo the gate in my Minecraft Kings Island build. But I'm sure I could deal. -
Kinda bummed that they split the players up. I'm sure they'll both fill up which would make it impossible to go to both.

Disneyland Resort Price Increase
LongLiveTheSmurfRide replied to bkroz's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Wow. That's a heck of a jump. Still, it's Disneyland. The place is magic. How much is too much to experience that multiple times a year? -
Yeah, I checked the menu and the prices do seem pretty steep on a lot of things.
-
^ I will need to check it out. I don't eat a lot of BBQ, so I'm up for anything new.

I was there on Sunday and Vortex beat us up so bad that we decided to go to the water park to relax and tend to our wounds. My wife was done with coasters for the day, and she used to be a big fan of Vortex, though I never have been.

Agree on the hot dogs at the Varsity. I consider myself a bit of a hot dog connoisseur, and heard they were amazing there; but sadly they were pretty average. The onion rings were very very good though. We didn't even go when it was crazy busy, which is what I hear that they're mainly known for: speed.

I thought it was fun, though I don't usually do water parks (first time there in probably 12 years). Seemed pretty crowded on Sunday (around 1) for just a preview day. Would not like it if it was even more packed.

While I do like the idea that they're out there (along with a lot of other "unexplained" phenomenon), I don't believe that they're real. Kind of like Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster and Smurfs. Things that make for great stories and which make the world seem a little more fantastical, but that I don't believe are real.

One of my favorite places. Wife and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner there. Best BBQ I've ever had.

So does that mean that it's been 7 years without the Antique Cars?

Bigger person and riding rides (mostly Planet Snoopy)
LongLiveTheSmurfRide replied to esquire's topic in Kings Island
Agreed, your stamina, no matter who you are, will get there when you keep at it. Do the Couch to 5K program slooowly. When you've slowed down, slow down some more. It's more important to just keep moving than to move fast. Speed will come but you have to get your endurance up to get there. Last year my wife had never run a mile and now she's able to do 5. Took her a couple months to get there and she's still pretty slow, but she's amazed at what she can do now when she used to think it just wasn't something she'd be able to do. -
Yeah, was kind of annoying seeing the tube hoarders out there; keeping them on their chairs when they were out of the pool. My feet must not be used to walking barefoot because they were getting mangled by the hot grooved cement. That's a me-problem though. Soak City was nice yesterday.

^ Spoiler Alert.

I also believe that there is a 5K walk there this Saturday. But only a walk.
-
They do, but so far they've been announced as 5K walks, not specifically 5K chipped runs. I believe Don mentioned in another thread that there was one scheduled for September 30th, but I don't know if it's only a walk.

Anyone heading to the JDRF Run at KI this weekend?
LongLiveTheSmurfRide replied to KI FANATIC 37's topic in Kings Island
I believe that it is just a 5K walk this weekend. Not a run. -
Is that planned to only be a walk and not a timed/chipped run? Thanks!
-
I'd have a day at the park reserved just for KIC'ers. Once word got around about that day, this place would blooooow up.

To answer the question, do I think Kings Island would be better off without Cedar Point Fair as the owner; heck no. The Cedar Fair company brings some stability to the park that a lot of smaller companies or individual owners would not be able to provide in this economy. I don't think there is any way that it gets sold now, or that it gets ignored. If Cedar Fair didn't operate the parks, we'd probably have some company like Apollo owning it. Or it might get picked up by 6 Flags and become a cookie cutter park. If Cedar Fair didn't have it, who knows where the park would be in this economy. They have the knowledge and experience to keep it going well into the future, where some random owner might just be interested in selling it off for a minor profit to another owner who is only interested in selling it off for a minor profit to another owner who is only...and so on... And to comment on the themes that Paramount brought, it's like Boddah said, they made theme rides; yes. But they didn't maintain them. They had cool ideas that did not completely materialize (because they're not Disney or Universal) and what was created held up for a couple seasons before not being maintained. These wonderful themes ended up collecting dust and spider webs. I must not have been present when they handed out the Paramount era rose-colored glasses. The only thing I miss from them (and it's very minor but made the park more magical to me) is the soundtrack music that played through the park (much better than the pop tunes that get blasted now). Other than that I would have prefered that they kept their themes to themselves and just made good rides.

Stupid question!!!!! How do you pronounce Ouimet? Is it French? Like We-met? Or We-May?

We're Getting Bigger!
LongLiveTheSmurfRide replied to Hank's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well, it kinda does have to do with weight for a lot of people. If you gain weight, it changes your body proportions. It certainly did on me. I fit in coasters fine until I gained a bunch of weight. Now that I've lost a bunch of that weight, I fit in them normally just like I used to. Some people pack weight into different parts of their body as well making their proportions different. Of course, this isn't true for everyone. There are certain people that are never going to fit in certain coasters normally (I'm sure Shaq has that problem).
