  1. Good for you! I'm glad you got to go. Silly me, I forgot for a second that you had to pay as you went back then, (I know you can still do that there and at some other parks). I wonder if parks like KI would have made more money under that business model than the pay one price/season pass model, although that model can have its problems. You aren't kidding, $100 in 1971 had the same buying power as $585.98 today!
  2. Terp, did you every go to Coney in the glory days? I know your childhood park was Camden Park and I'm sure the world was a much bigger place back then.
  3. If the people in that video visited the park today I wonder how they would react.
  4. I'm not naive enough to believe that "security" is worth two bits, other than the peace of mind that it gives to the people that buy into it. Recently, there was a study done that tested airport security effectiveness, and it was found to have a 95% failure rate. Amusement park security doesn't stand a chance if that's the case.I believe you are safe at an amusement park in the same way you are walking down a city street. You can't guarantee absolute safety, and we should be okay with that.
  5. Personally, I'm fine with the newspapers and town halls like we had when the Constitution was written. With the exception of Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson, I doubt any of them could have envisioned the radio, television and social media we have today.*I'm not a HUGE gun guy. I've never even fired one. I just think that logic is poor.
  6. I can't wait for this thing! This is looking like what what I've been wanting since Diamondback.
  7. ^^ I'd of course love to see an expansion and I think one is possible. I'd be curious to see how KI ranks as far as developed land in 2016 or midway acreage compared to other parks.
  8. I agree with you up to the point where I think a lot of folks would be highly, highly disappointed if it didn't turn out to be an RMC. You don't tease that unless you plan to deliver. But that's just my opinion. You've got to take off the enthusiast glasses. A lot of folks (greater than 99% of guests) have no idea what RMC is. The few dozen participating or reading this thread are a tiny, tiny fraction of KI's customers.
  9. I don't see how this is different than Adventure Express or Gemini as far as classification goes. Oh well, only enthusiasts care about that anyway.
  10. Cincinnati is roughly half the size of Las Vegas. However, the Cincinnati metropolitan area (2.1 million) is actually larger than the Las Vegas metropolitan area (1.9 million) as of the 2010 census.
  11. Yeah, people seem to be extrapolating too much. I'm skeptical of the steel supports thing myself.
  12. It's interesting how little in terms of physical teasers we've seen by the park.
  13. It seems KK, for now at least, has proven the naysayers wrong. I was sure to go in 2014 because I wasn't so sure it would open for a second straight year. Their sucess is excellent for Kings Island fans. Competition makes everyone better. As many of you know, what we know as Action Zone was in response to Kentucky Kingdom. Also for you history buffs, Kings Island itself was built as an upgrade to Coney Island partially as a response to a proposed but never built Davy Crockett themed park in Boone County Kentucky.
  14. I like the name Sasquatch, but I wouldn't use it. Every ride name doesn't have to be something scary. Shooting Star and Cannon Ball for instance, are old-fashioned but great names.
  15. Moonshine running themed coaster?Grit your teeth, Bear the load Enjoy your ride... You never saw this leaked memo? MEMORANDUM Sandusky, Ohio February 12, 2013 Going forward, for the naming of all new Kings Island attractions, only names of former/proposed Cedar Fair attractions are to be considered. New for 2017! Disaster Transport- Wooden Coaster!
  16. I'm glad you brought this up. I see what they're trying to do; It's like Dave & Buster's. Keeping the cash in one location is more secure. Guests spend the money up front and play the games almost forgetting that they spent the money in the first place. Unspent card credits are pure profit. HOWEVER, Kings Island is not Dave & Buster's. Most do not set out to play 20 or 40 dollars worth of games when they go through the gate. Games are an impulse buy to most people. They say "Oooh I'd like to win that emoji pillow or that XBOX One." I can imagine many will go to pay for the game only to be be directed to the card charging station. Many, I'm sure, balk right then, and don't even go up to the card charging again. Some probably look at it for a second and think better of it. If they actually do charge their cards and they run out of credit trying to win a prize, how many will bother to charge the card again? They have another chance to balk. As a business school grad and practitioner of common sense, I SEVERELY question this business model. The park should allow guests to pay with the game cards or cash or credit.
  17. Go to Kennywood and ride the Jack Rabbit, Racer, and Thunderbolt!
  18. ^^ Holiday World disagrees with you based on the fact that they tried to get Timberliners on it for several years. It's still my favorite coaster out of the 132 I've been on, but it is rough to me and I worry for it's future. PTC's were never intended to do what they ask them to do. I found an old video of the legendary John Allen talking about "curves not doing anything for people." Terp, would you say that he is right to an extent, or just stuck in his way of thinking? Maybe he was right with what could be done at the time? I know that the oldest coasters are mostly out and back, or at least not as twisty as a modern GCI.
  19. You only moderately enjoyed Thunderhead, but it's in your top 10 coasters in your signature?
  20. I took the Coney Island Cyclone into consideration when I made the post. To answer your question, no one. Very few even know it has a steel support structure. However, the Cyclone is relatively old school in terms of layout, mostly nearly straight up and down drops with high, (slower) turns. That is the old formula that most old woodies that were not Prior and Church/Travers were built on if I'm not mistaken. It was John Allen that was opposed to turns that were fast and high off the ground, right?
  21. Steel Support Structure on a GCI, huh? Personally I'd prefer wood supports for looks. Also I know there's been discussion as to whether steel support structures put more stress on the wooden track on twister designs. Some have speculated, (and there's been discussion here,) that may be part of the Voyage's problem with roughness. If that's not an issue it doesn't matter all that much.
  22. Ignoring all the "decoding" and just using my head, I think that they'd want it fairly long to ensure a three train operation, (which GCI has only ventured into recently.) You'd probably have to get over 4000 feet to do that.Side note: It's about FUN guys; remember that. If you're smiling when you hit the brakes, then it's a good ride.
  23. Wouldn't it be great if they got a GCI and as part of the deal they purchase Millennium Flyer trains for The Beast? I know that would be very expensive, but it would be great.
