  1. Now I'm confused. By the way my post was a jab at RMC for their "wooden" coaster Goliath which has polyurethane wheels.
  2. It was ALL about the view of the campground.
  3. Come Hydra, all wooden coasters should have plastic wheels; it's modern.
  4. Never say never. I would say there is a good chance that Kings Island staff had similar feelings towards Arrow after the reliability nightmare that was The Bat. This ride may be an olive branch for Intamin in the same way that Vortex was for Arrow.
  5. Son of Beast had the coolest coaster logo I've ever seen. If only the ride had lived up to it!
  6. One would think that a park would want to keep "The King of Wooden Coasters." Why are woodies being seen as anachronisms?
  7. Yes, I know that. That was a sort of an aside from the rest of my post. The same concept applies though. Yeah, it is wooden, just as ham and Spam are both meat, (Not a knock against "The Bull"). In my eyes a "pure" wooden coaster must feel wooden. Very few riders would care or know how the ride was made, but still.
  8. ^^ Gemini rides on tubular steel track and delivers a ride experience of a tubular steel roller coaster. Outlaw Run runs on a quasi-wooden track with a structurally significant top two layers of steel. It is almost a steel track bolted to wood. Does Outlaw Run deliver the experience of a wooden coaster? I've never heard anyone say that. It is more marketable, as Terp alluded to, to sell them as wooden. El Toro is also a little disingenuous. It is wooden but c'mon it's not REALLY wooden.
  9. Thanks BB7. I sent you a PM.
  10. If anyone is willing to part with an '09 map that would be great. I might even be able to fill a gap in your collection.
  11. That was so hard for me to fathom, but then I remembered that most people LOVE Millennium Force. To me, that ride pales in comparison to Magnum XL-200.
  12. That's interesting. What is it that the Voyage DOESN'T do? There's not much more I could ask for personally.
  13. The problem with modifying safety systems is that doing so casts doubt on the system pre-modification. A guest may very well think "So when I rode this last (insert time period) it was unsafe"? We know better, but many do not. That being said, had there been any issue, or legitimate concern it would be a no-brainer to change the restraints
  14. Sigh, see Flight Deck 2007-2012. See also Nitro early 2001.
  15. We have two full-sized wooden coasters and one wooden kiddie coaster, all built in the 70's. I'm saying I like wooden coasters because of the traditional bumps and out of control feeling they provide. My problem with pre-fabs and hybrids is that the experience could be made just as easily on a steel coaster. Don't get me wrong, I don't like a rough ride but one that only a properly maintained wooden coaster can deliver.
  16. Robb Alvey did a good job here.
  17. If and when The Bat reaches the end of its service life, (most likely at least a few years off), I'd like to see a wooden coaster in its place. I'd make it A REAL traditional wooden coaster not a laser-cut "smooth as silk" job or a "hybrid." A real wooden coaster has those little bumps and rattles. That is what makes a wooden coaster different than a steel coaster. The environment is beautiful and the terrain would benefit the coaster's construction. Before anyone thinks "steel" first, remember that the park's newest existing wooden coaster just turned 35.
  18. A classic merry-go-round is something that you really don't appreciate until you see a new one! Remember, there's only a limited number of these babies to go around. The expenses of making, (and likewise purchasing), a full-sized band organ, hand-carved, ornate, carousel would almost never be "justified" today. Really the only way that a park as new as KI gets one is if another park closes... and one did for KI, kind of.
  19. A Huss Breakdance would be fantastic.
  20. Terp, I'd hope they wouldn't stop making maps completely. You and I know it will be a long time, if ever, before EVERYONE can afford, (or want), smartphones. Rsipus13, that's great, thank you. I'll send you a PM.
  21. Thanks anyway homestar. Somebody will help me out.
  22. Hi, everyone. I'm a long time reader of these forums, (since about 05 or so). For some reason, I never picked up a 2009 Park map years ago, even though I visited several times. If anyone has an 09 map, I'd really appreciate it. I'd definitely make it worth your while in a trade. My collection includes KI as well as many other parks.
