  1. B&M giga?SoB wood had filled that void, it had it's chance. Yes, Cincinnatians have been riding nonexistent B&M giga coasters for generations...That notion with SOB is bunk, and I was hoping I wouldn't have to hear it. A bad concept was pushed by the park and rejected by the quality manufacturers of the day. The park defiantly pushed forward and boy did they pay for it. Imagine if King Island in 1983 thought the way you're thinking. "No more steel coasters... that Bat was a disaster." Please do tell when another wooden coaster can be built. ONE wood coaster has been built at the park since the Carter administration, and how many steel coasters? And they've built exactly 0 gigas in that same time frame. Meanwhile they continue to operate 2 of the best wooden coasters found anywhere.Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk Gigas didn't exist for most of that time frame. You're viewing "wooden" as a coaster type like giga, inverted, suspended, stand-up, etc. There are many different things you can do to a wooden coaster without the experience being stale or the same. See Kennywood, Holiday World or especially Riverview Park (Chicago).
  2. For what it's worth, I doubt you would have the roughness issues Voyage has because the park would likely build a GCI, which would have Millennium Flyers, (and a wooden support structure). Terp, I know you didn't like it even when it was brand new and smooth, but MANY did. Many like Millennium Force too, which you like me don't "get." It's still my favorite coaster out of the 130 or so I've ridden.
  3. I feel like this should go as a sticky to start every thread! To say I agree is an understatement. I don't like that I have to go to Santa Claus, Indiana to ride a modern wooden coaster, (I know other parks have them, but HW has the best collection of woodies in the Midwest in my opinion).
  4. It's been at least 20 years hasn't it? I know I never saw it. Edit: I looked it up. Kings Island closed it in 1993.
  5. Side question to you all. Was the former Lion Country Safari area wooded at some time? If it was, that's a shame because coasters are better WITH TREES. Also interesting if that were the case is that the park did not let that area grow back in the many years since LCS was taken out.

  7. I 'wood' like to believe that this is not a giga coaster. Hopefully a coaster type beloved by Cincinnati for generations is not forgotten.
  8. Shouldn't that be more embarrassing to the media who didn't fact check? I know there's hardly a thing as journalism or fact checking anymore, but still.
  9. Oktoberfest is such a cool theme, and is so underutilized by the park. If only it wasn't so landlocked. I know it's just a crazy hope given how low area theming is on the totem pole, but I would retheme all of the Action Zone into Oktoberfest given that it's really just "generic amusement park."
  10. For every Terp thread resurrection there is a reason, (sometimes just for his own amusement). My guess for this time...
  11. Ah, my mistake! File that under urban legend, turned common knowledge that was never right in the first place.
  12. You really know your stuff. Knowing this, I wouldn't cheap out and go with GG if I could afford GCI.
  13. Are you essentially saying you get what you pay for? If that's the case, I wonder what it is that they do more cheaply which results in rougher rides down the road.
  14. If I were a park bean counter I'd like to see a little more change than that to justify the expense of new trains. I'd be more likely to ok Millennium Flyers as they are already proven and do make a substantial difference in track maintenance. I'd also think that they'd see how they go on Ghostrider before they add them to other existing woodies. *Side question. What is the deal with GG and CCI woodies? When they are running well I find them to be the best and most intense of all wooden coasters. They seem to age terribly. Is the problem just that the intensity wears the track worse than others? Poor engineering? Is it that they use PTC trains? I'd doubt that it would be the lumber quality as CCI and GG do not actually build them, right?
  15. I see, thanks anyway. I thought I might get a response with the notorious Terpy legal disclaimer at the end. Hey folks, it could be much worse train-wise lest we forget the disasters that were SOB's Premier trains.
  16. That's interesting, thank you. I've always wondered how that worked with an in-house manufacturer and an outside train manufacturer. So are PTCs recommendations on their trains binding under Ohio law?
  17. ^^ Yes, but Is think It's likely PTC wants the headrests on the trains. If they recommend it, then it's law in Ohio. Cedar Fair probably does too as the trains in their true, original configuration are not idiot proof for today's society, (Headrests are to help keep people who stand up inside). Side note. Cornball Express is pretty terrifying with buzzbars, but needless to say it is perfectly safe.
  18. I will admit it'd be hard to sell this change in The Beast to the bean-counters. It would take a LONG time for the cost of those trains to be paid for in the reduced maintainence costs.
  19. The 3 row PTCs are nice for capacity, but that's about it. They are just about the worst when it comes to navigating turns without being so rough on the track. Millennium Flyers streer through turns. They are far more comfortable. At one point, our PTCs were perfectly comfortable for most riders. Today, they are rigged with added ratcheting single bars, high seat dividers and headrests. PTCs have become obsolete. Millennium Flyers would be so much easier on the track and you may even be able to lessen up on the brakes a little maybe.
  20. "I really think The Beast could use these." You're killing me. I would LOVE that. *sorry for the obnoxious text that's how my phone did it.
  21. Wow, someone bet on the Cubs? I could make a few wagers with that guy!
  22. I think it would be nice to have something in that building, but in a fantasy world I'd rather have it leveled and they start over. That building is absolutely hideous and kills any charm the park's trying to give off. The Disaster Transport building at CP was a kindred spirit.
