Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
Magenta Lizard replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Some new markers have shown up in the WWC cannon area. Including this one in the ground in the middle of the path: A wider shot to show location There are also some new ones between the entrance and exit queue just before the stairs, where those trees have been marked for some time And across past the fences into the old queue -

Even tho The Man told me it isn't a clue, when I realized today I could get a pic of the infamous TINMAN without going into restricted areas, I just HAD to! -

Yeah, I had suggested something Paul Bunyan and/or Babe the blue ox related. So long ago, I'm not surprised it wasn't noticed or remembered. "Bunyan Run" I think is my favorite play on that. I had considered compiling a list of all the names people have suggested through this thread, but it was a bit intimidating of a proposition. I may yet, if I get bored in the days leading up to the announcement. -

For some reason Centaurs are coming to mind for me, probably because they live in the Forbidden Forest near Hogwarts. But I'm still sticking to something Lumberjack related -

I believe the retaining wall is because they are building an access road, to be used for construction vehicles and later maintenance vehicles, alongside the reservoir. -

Retaining wall, most likely the purpose of the beams that have been sunken next to the reservoir. So, with the water in the background, presumably this lumber is laid out in the clearing next to the reservoir (near the WWC turntable) -
It's amazing, no matter how often I've been to KI (over 30 times so far this season) and no matter how much I look around, there are still things that take me by surprise. I've ridden Vortex more times this summer than ever before, but last time I rode I suddenly noticed this on the ground below the queue, for the first time. It's those little touches that are so fun!

Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees

I've avoided asking Don Helbig about Rivertown when I've talked to him this season, but I did finally ask him about the TINMAN boat and whether it was a clue, when I saw him on my birthday last week. First, he didn't even recognize exactly what I was talking about. After I explained further, he said no, it wasn't a clue. He would know! And he is very good about not answering while not lying either, if the situation calls for it. So that was really just me wildly speculating, it never was meant to mean something. -
Lew Brown and Kenny Van Meter (the name of the other engine) were early conductors of the trains at KI. Edit: added scans from the 1987 employee yearbook (A View from the Tower) And a closer shot of, I believe, Kenny Van Meter (left) and Marvin Stahl, if the captions on the other pic are to be believed.

Just reviewed the snapchat and noticed there was no step 11. It goes from 10 to 12. Now I can't rest. What was step 11?! -

I like the name Wendigo. Manticore would be cool also. I'd love Satyr, but that is almost impossible for a family park (look up classical images, but not at work or where your parents will see). Still leaning toward lumberjack references, myself, tho. I'm going to go out on a limb here (heh), and say I think it is going to be the first (?) inverted wooden coaster. As evidenced by the logo for Christmas in July -

Well I guess that solves for why they added the extra log-seating. I don't think there's enough logs left to cover the number of people likely to attend this announcement though! -

Yeah, it really IS Christmas in July! Interesting how the Nature Is Taking Over graphic reflects the stage design of Origins. -

So, they seem to have begun extending the access road that runs through DB over to Project 2017's area. Newly gravel-paved area on DB's side of WWC queue. Probably will be used as parking/turnaround for equipment by my guess. Roll of fabric near the fence on the DB side of WWC queue, beside the new gravel area. Used beneath the road I'm assuming. Beginnings of new access road on the other side of the queue with equipment already parked on it Shot from another angle of the equipment on the new road I just realized these platforms I posted pics of before may have been used as a bridge across the concrete curbs of the new WWC queue to cross the equipment. I need to see if the length is correct next time I'm at the park. I had noted before that the fencing in this part of the new queue, other than the floral tunnels, seemed awfully temporary. I was hoping it was because the coaster would ultimately do a fly-over, but it looks likely to be for construction access. -
We were talking about this in general discussion, but when I checked it out last evening, it appeared it will need its own thread. They haven't removed the individual swings yet, so maybe this won't be a several weeks' long overhaul. If it is, I look forward to a refreshed ride. If not, I look forward to riding it sooner. They've removed enough of the trim pieces so that the carousel-like top is now at ground level

Which coaster do you want to come next.
Magenta Lizard replied to Beasttamer's topic in Coming Attractions
I watch a lot of TV and I've never seen a Holiday World commercial here between Dayton and Cincy, either. I never really heard of the park until I got involved in the coasting community again a few years ago. -

They tend to change out who spiels each time around. But I've ridden the train so much I recognize most of them anyway. -

Thanks for the double post, poor connection. That's the area I wanted to get a pic of all this time. It's clearing to the right just before the unused station on the left. Near one of the WWC towers apparently. -

I'm on my third trip around on the train because I keep forgetting to get a pic of the clearing before the unused station. Keep seeing other interesting stuff tho. Like these strange little wood slats -

Oh, yeah, the stumps seem to have been cut from some of the logs that were over by DB last week. The butt end of a log they cut into portions appears to be sitting on top of some that are still there. -

Well this seems important. (And the "clearing" by Beast was a few trees taken down, and no movement since then, even to remove the fallen) -

After seeing the clearing between the train station and WWC queue, and some new work there, and new markers, I'm almost back to thinking they're bringing back the 'tiques. I'll explain more with pics once I'm home. I may just lack imagination.
