  1. Meijer is a success story, it has been for years. Look at their growth rate and profits. They aren't going to put something in that is going to fail in a fiscal year. They know what they're doing, its going to work. The amusement industry in Aurora is dead and even if very unfortunate its time to give up the dream it ever would come back. We don't need an Ed Hart in Aurora Ohio trying to resurrect a dead amusement park here.
  2. Holy quotations Batman! My Platinum pass hasn't been purchased at Cedar Point in years and includes dining on it. The group I went with for Opening Weekend didn't have issues with the passes or dining either. Only one park and user here has had issues that I've ever noticed with an out of park pass, and it wasn't at Cedar Point. Sorry if you have had issues though.
  3. KI doesn't necessarily do it. But CP has. Last year for the Rev3 Triathalon normally the park was open to the public, very shortly before the Triathalon it was closed to the public and they made mention of it everywhere as a preventative measure, which is highly unfortunate given how great of a day the park is while the Triathalon goes on.
  4. Sorry to post again being the last poster. There was one drone video over the park in 2014, I'm just now seeing this one, it's much more in depth and better video. Goes to show there isn't anything worth saving, it's time to just sell it and move on. Also, theres this walkthrough done early this year showing from the ground how bad the state of disrepair the park is, notably Big Dipper. There really isn't a use salvaging the thing, nor probably a way. It'd be better to build a new one somewhere honestly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1m6gaVx1DY
  5. Glad you had a blast and enjoyed your first time ever on the Point. I remember my first time many MANY years ago. Half of the fun now is reliving the old memories with friends and occasionally making new ones. Glad you somewhat enjoyed Magnum. It can beat you up a bit, but it's going to happen, just accept the leg pain and enjoy the countless seconds of airtime Maverick is great with the new restraints I agree. While it does hold you into the seat more robbing a tad of airtime, it's for sure much more comfortable, even if I had no issues before. Next visit if you get one anytime soon and can remember to do it, ride some of the smaller, older coasters and flat rides. Blue Streak is easily the best wooden roller coaster currently running in the state, and some of the Arrow coasters you missed (Gemini, Corkscrew, etc.) are fantastic rides. I could sit and marathon Gemini all day honestly. Also live E is to not be missed there. The live e that park puts out is seriously superb in every way over Kings Island. There have been days I was there for a weekend and spent the whole day enjoying shows and the atmosphere and didn't hop on one ride. Glad you and your mates had a blast, head up again and have more fun! I know I will be here in a few weeks. I've had an itch to ride again since I left opening weekend.
  6. 1. Two days gives you time to knock out alot, and allow rerides. It is possible to knock out a whole park in a day for just coasters depending on crowds & whatnot, it's a hit & miss, but it can be done. Best bet is day one when you've got a good night sleep & a full day ready to go, ride alot and quickly. I usually will do a bunch of riding day one, and day 2 eat, do live e, do rerides, etc. 2. There's plenty of hotels/motels for every budget. Biggest thing is to look and make sure no large groups, events, holidays, etc. are happening. For instance see Coastermania. There's alot going on in Sandusky aside from a big enthusiast day at Cedar Point that weekend. Hotels are scarce considering, and if available at all, quite expensive. If you need to book away if prices are high Port Clinton is a bit away but usually reasonable, same for anything towards Huron. 3. Tickets are usually cheapest online, there are local store deals, but consistently the cheap tickets are available online through the park with other combos. Also, for other information, up to date answers, and a better fanbase for Cedar Point related info, I'd go check out Pointbuzz. Their new Q&A section should give great results.
  7. Not exactly, it's been split up like that for years. You can view the sale information, the parcels were sold that way all the way back to the Funtime era, then to Cedar Fair in 2004, and rebranded under Geauga Lake LLC in 2013. The parcels have remained that way since way back when
  8. I would believe so honestly. Look at other parks they operate on the smaller side, such as Dorney. Even those parks have had upgrades recently albeit even if they are hand-me-downs. Geauga Lake's upgrades have been to the extent of more beach chairs, towels, and I believe a food venue. Not one bit of capital expansion has happened since the park operated solely as a waterpark. Seeing videos of city officials and whatnot over the years and how it looks like the city only wanted to use the land as park & recreational even with Cedar Fair claiming they had bidders for senior centers, sports complexes, etc. I think they finally ticked off Cedar Fair enough and now they're done. They want to sell and get out and refocus elsewhere. Plus who knows what attendance is like. I'd love to drive up just to take a gander and see the park. The last time I was there (2010 I believe) it was quite dead, and I finished every activity and ride in the park by mid afternoon. We left early given that it got boring. The area Meijer looks to acquire is I would guess the massive parking lot. It's flat, just needs fixed, and then the concrete torn up or fixed where the box will go for the building. I don't see them grabbing into the park area itself, but it's possible. I just did a recent check in both counties looking at the parcels, permits, & other information regarding the land there. The land is cut up and not just under one parcel. It's worth taking a look at.
  9. Someone is there, if they weren't, that's be quite eerie, perhaps post apocalyptic
  10. They won't market Big Dipper and Meijer. They operate supercenters to sell supermarket groceries and general merchandise. They have no experience in operating amusement park rides and structures, nor will they start now. Big Dipper's fate was sealed years ago given it's lack of relocation, lack of maintanance, and unwilling to settle and sell with the new owner. The ride is unfortunately probably in such a state of disrepair, it's worth next to nothing at this point other than maybe some photographs, a quick tour, and it's demolition. The cities don't like each other and fight all the time, the city has two lane roads and didn't develop as quickly as the park did, and fought left and right with the companies of the past including the current owner. See how Cedar Fair had to threaten to sue to get this deal moving. If they had to go to those levels, they have a deal, they have buyers, they're wanting out. This marks the end of the Geauga Lake amusement era folks. Sad indeed, but it's been dead since 2007. Time to get your last pictures and looks and turn away and not return.
  11. Who does their marketing? I've read some dreadful things before, even in the Cedar Fair chain, but this almost takes the cake. It feels like a high school child wrote a press release the night before it was due. It's no longer a matter of "if" but "when"
  12. Other manufacturers don't have what B&M has. Perfect safety ratings and works on time, everytime is a very important thing. When other manufacturers can offer an exact copy or better product for the same or less, then you'll see more developments.
  13. That's what happens when a company for just a few million more delivers a ride that's built on time, works perfectly, flawless safety record, high capacity, and operates easily. See Cheetah Run, Falcons Fury, Inferno, etc. The list can go on and on and on sadly.
  14. I was actually hoping for a Mack Hypercoaster, I'd love to see more of those come to fruition, but I'll take a B&M that's proven to do what it does well
  15. And that is why I don't do carnival rides. Yearly? Just yearly? Especially considering they move from location to location. Torn down and rebuilt constantly? Just..nope.
  16. Ape, how can you say so if you haven't even ridden it? Sigh... And ah yes, I had forgotten about that one...goes into two helixes actually, and man are they awesome.
  17. THANK YOU! I totally agree with everything you say. People near Carowinds, Cedar Point, SFMM, etc. are not the target markets. I will say if I'm ever in the area though I will be riding this. My favorite part is the interaction over the water, I miss that from a certain park near a certain lake in Ohio. Now it sits next to a parking lot and a rumbling rock with track spewing out the top.
  18. Agreed. Plus, this is the first B&M off hand I can think of that has a neat twist right after a MCBR. Usually they just drop straight down and then go into an element, so I'm all for it. I've never found a B&M Hyper I haven't enjoyed. Some are better than others (see Apollo's Chariot) but generally there aren't any that I won't ride. Whoever has been designing the last few B&M's has my support, the overbanks and angles are very impressive and look great. It's like a smaller Diamondback with a few Fury 325 like turns. I'm all for it.
  19. The worst is seeing Twitter reactions. Many enthusiasts and fans are already calling the ride a disappointment and mediocre because it's nothing new. Really? Especially when they haven't even been on the ride! Entitlement complex runs quite rampant in this industries enthusiasts, and really makes me sometimes despise it. Also, one thing to note with the annoucement with that ordeal aside. It looks like No Limits was used with the POV. That makes me quite happy
  20. It's been there for years. If a child looks stressed and distraught they need to make sure the child is alright and wants to ride. Last thing the parks want is a screaming anxiety driven child who doesn't want to ride and is scared for their life trying to get off the ride say on a lift hill, or worse during the ride. Many bad things could happen. I've seen it before, parents want to ride the rides and get their kids on them for them to have a good day, and the kid clearly doesn't want to ride and says no. Parents kinda pressures/hazes the kid, but the park won't have it and asks the parent and child to exit. Safety is key, and always will be.
  21. The V style seating is kinda cool and all, but it's not necessary, you can still get a good view without them, plus it makes for a smaller train length, so easier to go up and down the platform to do checks. I'm completely ok with that.
  22. The trains are the same chassis, however they now have new fiberglass bodies, if you notice, the paint & whatnot is fantastic and bright on all three.
  23. So there was a thread for this! Sorry to go this far back, but if it's there might as well use it. Sorry for the long list & Youtube Links, figured I'd put it all in at once. There's a few parts still missing from the current show and hopefully I'll be back at some point to get the rest, I'd love to actually have the full setlist, it's good music. If anyone else has Shazam give it a go. 24. Guests have more money in their pocket, spending more money in parks, increased attendance. Comments on innovation being the forefront of driving future attendance figures. Labor largest cost in operating the chain. Carowinds sets record Memorial Day weeekend ever. http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000381947
  25. Things aren't forever is an absolutely true statement, but I will say when it's day comes, they had better darn well have a very great replacement, or very good reason to remove it. I did relinquish buying my Cedar Fair pass for a few years after Geauga Lake was abruptly shut down, I wouldn't have any issue to do it again
