Yeah, they're not in the coaster race anymore, which is why four years ago, they opened the world's tallest, fastest and only looping wooden rollercoaster to complete their record holding with the world's longest wooden rollercoaster You just backed up the statement that they are out of the coaster race, did you know that? How? You said yourself that it was four years ago that they built a new record breaking coaster unlike CP and SFMM that do it year after year with records being numbers, height, and speed.

Coastermike, could you see what is playing in AT and then post it back here? I am interested to see what they are going to replace it with.
-
I was wondering how they would make that work. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Top gun, make it longer, less of a walk, not seating but seats were your feet hang like faceoff, and give it some loops and corkscrews to make it feel like your actually flying not just getting jerked around If it did, it would no longer be a suspended coaster, it would be a suspended looping or inverted coaster. This is not what they had in mind. Crosscountry4891 is correct about the inversions on TG. I'd let Great Coasters International redesign Son of Beast...and rebuild it. Would that be one popular ride, or what? No, it wouldn't make a difference if GCI had designed it to begin with. SOB already had a great designer in Werner Stengel. You should check the guy's credits out. He is responsible for many great and recognizable designs. The problem is not the design, but the trains. Now, maybe GCI could design them a new train, but how expensive would that be? It would only be worth the cost if the new train would greatly enhance the ride experience which would equal more ridership. If not, there is really no point in redesigning the train.

Actually, I like the concept of this and the screaming squirrel. They look like interesting rides, especially with the squirrel as it holds you upside down for quite a while. Would you consider this to be a junior coaster? I like interactive rides' concept better for the Navy: The Experience better. From the description of that coaster, it could break TTD's record. I would rather see PKI get that one.

Keep in mind, they are still 2 other TOGO stand up's still in operation at 2 other Paramount Parks. Skyrider at Canada's Wonderland opened just 1 year after Cobra, in 1985. You also have Shockwave which opened at Kings Dominion in 1986. So if parts were hard to come by, why are these 2 still in operation? Who knows? You may see both torn down in a couple of years. It was that the parts are too expensive (not really sure if they were hard to get). The cost was just not justified in their minds. Once a certain style of coaster fades away, then after a while, the manufacturers quit making parts for them any more. Look at really old wooden coasters. Many have the old hand brake style to them. Like the one at Astroland in New York called the Cyclone. I saw a special on this park on tv and they were explaining how they have to have custom parts made to maintain the ride. Either way its a lose and a gain in my opinion. If KC was still here we wouldn't have Delerium which is an awesome ride. Or we lose a great ride in KC and put in another great ride in Delerium. They may have bought Delirium anyway without removing Kobra and just placed it somewhere else. You can't say definitively that without the removal of KC, PKI would not have installed Delirium.

I agree that Days of Thunder is the best movie that they have had in Action Theatre. I saw the James Bond style of movie and it just was not nearly as good. So, what is playing in there now?

This year I took the advice of some others and started at the back of the park with The Beast and Tomb Raider. I waited one cycle for TR:TR and virtually walked on to The Beast. Hope that helps.
-
The problem is, these rides are not being designed for the larger people, me nearly being one of them. I am real close to not fitting. I think (even though this has nothing to do with Delirium) that Intamin needs to rethink their seats so that they do accomodate larger people. Why? Because the majority of parks buying up these rides are Americans and it is pretty much a proven fact that we generally are larger than most Europeans.
-
Yep, my brother who is 6'4 was told he could not ride this year even though he did last year. I think with the whole Intamin issue, this has caused a general paranoia and now heights and sizes of all guests will be looked at more closely.
-
Intamin really has perfected their seating with Top Thrill Dragster. The problem is, all of the previous coasters need to be retrofitted with similar seats and lap bars as TTD's. I din't think changing the seatbelts is the answer either.
-
I would not want SOB to be redesigned and be more like The Beast. Why? Because it would make The Beast less original. IMO, SOB is fine the way it is except for the trains. The fact is that SOB and The Beast are two totally different designs and styles. And it should stay that way. I honestly think that SOB travels entirely too fast to have small hills for air time. The only way you could really design a hill with air time at that speed would be to do something like Millennium Force's second and third hills. If if were to change any coaster, it would be Flight of Fear...just to make it a little longer.

What's the funniest thing you've ever seen at Pki?
PKI Homey replied to Columbus coasternut's topic in Kings Island
I work metal detection, and grad nite, a guy was comming through my line and told me he might set it off, and his answer when i asked him why, he says "because i have a bullet in me," and proceeds to lift up his shirt and show me the scar where they did surgury on him. I, too have Titanium rods in my back. I wonder if I'll set off the metal detectors? I'll find out next Monday when I'm there. -
3) cant we all just get along? its just a D@mn ciggarette We can so long as your not smoking in line next to me.
-
But honestly people, you gotta compare it to something; I'm sure the Jews didn't take to kindly to being shot by Hitler's rule, but if they were standing in a line ready to be shot, and someone next to them took out a cig and lit up, I highly doubt they would ask them to put it out. That is the worst comparison I've ever heard. I can't believe someone would try to compare what Hitler and the Nazis did to the Jews to smoking in a que line. How assonine can you get. I know I'll probably get warned for this post, but I don't care. You are way off base Cabron.
-
I think that PKI's Vortex was built long before the others. It was one of the first Arrow loopers that did six inversions. PCW also gave their new flying coaster the Tomb Raider name and ours obviously isn't even a coaster.
-
While we're on this note, has anyone kept their hands up all the way down on The Beast's hill? I always inherently draw my hands down right before entering the tunnel because it seems like it's low clearance. Does anyone else do that? Yeah, i have been doing that for years now. You would think after all this time I would be able to keep them up.

Kings Island earns high marks in a new Survey
PKI Homey replied to coasterrz's topic in Kings Island
Why did they come in 4th? Look at whom they are being compared to...Disney. PKI has a great kids area, but Disney is way ahead of them on what they have to offer to them. Not to say PKI is bad or anything, but they are no Disney. Besides, this is how PKI is marketing itself now. And, they should be proud to be compared to a juggernaut like Disney. -
Believe ir or not, but weather makes a differance
PKI Homey replied to PKICoasterFreek's topic in Kings Island
SOmeone did figure this out a very long time ago. LOL Anyway, there are other factors like wind speed. This is why Top Thrill Dragster has problems with rollbacks. The wind generally comes from the opposite direction that the train is traveling over the top. And, coldness affects it somehow, but I'm not sure how. Also, I think this is true but correct me if I'm wrong, SOB could close due to high winds as well. -
Looks like they are virtually the same.
-
I liked Flight Commander as well. I thought it was cool that you could control the barrel rolls. The ride lingered at the park after the accident. Modifications were made to the restraints, which were deemed to be improperly designed. I guess that change wasn't enough to convince people to give it another try.

Cedar Point Puts Size Limit On Coaster Riders
PKI Homey replied to Columbus coasternut's topic in Kings Island
I don't think shortening the seatbelts is a real solution to the problem. I think Intamin should have to go back and retrofit old cars with the new t-bar restraints like on Dragster. Have you noticed that B&M does not have this problem? They can generally accomodate larger guests. -
You're all wrong. Tiques is going to be expanded to two times the size. . No really, I believe what I have heard lately and that is the new coaster addition will go in Coney Mall between SOB and FOF or somewhere in there. 1. Why in the hell would the park remove ONE side of the antique cars for an attraction 2 years down the rode? First of all, it's road. Second, I'm sure PKI does all kinds of preparation work a year or two before an attraction goes in, including site work. I guarantee that the execs at PKI know exactly where they are going with the park in at least the next five years.

Cedar Point Puts Size Limit On Coaster Riders
PKI Homey replied to Columbus coasternut's topic in Kings Island
I bet CP has made a lot of people mad. Now, I'm not sure if the friend I went with last year to CP will be able to fit. I'm getting worried about myself. I'm 5'11" and weigh 205 to 210. I think it was stated that around 220 lbs., you may not fit any more. And I am not a large person. Back on topic, this will not affect PKI as stated before that they have no Intamin coasters with tbar restraints. -
I heard that they are tearing down The Beast after its 25th b day then replacing it with a new and improved parking lot! No, it is being replaced by a Dippin' Dots stand. That way, everyone will know which Dippin' Dots Guy has all the latest rumors.
