TOPGUN1993
To look out of? But, yeah I've never noticed that.
PKIVortex
Weird that I never saw that either.
CoastersRZ
That is because it is a maintenance door. It usually remains closed, but on that particular day, it seems it was left open.
FOFirehawkFAN
Thats cool I wonder whats inside?

DropZone99
I believe the motor is up there. Doesn't the cable go into the tower too?
CYoung2003
The cable's spool up there.
Jasper
Shoo man that takes a lot of guts to go up almost 300 feet in the air and perform maintenence. I have never seen that door either hmmm ill have to look and see if it is open next time.
Browntggrr
That is because it is a maintenance door. It usually remains closed, but on that particular day, it seems it was left open. Now do maintenance personnel have to climb a ladder or steps to get up there or is there an elevator?
RollerNut
A ladder, I have seen inside of the Carowinds Drop Zone.
CoastersRZ
There is a two man elevator inside of the tower that can take maintenance personnel up to the machine room at the top of the tower. You can see the entrance to this elevator when the ring of seats is lifted up. The hatch doorway faces the main queue building.
Gordon Bombay
A ladder, I have seen inside of the Carowinds Drop Zone. Not the same ride, nor even anywhere near the same height. P.S. Does that picture look really pixelated to anyone else?
Cory Butcher
Eh, its not too bad. But it isn't the sharpest picture that the man who took that photo has ever taken! Some of the edges look a tiny bit blurred. Oh well, all that aside, it still isn't a bad picture from the best photographer that I know! NatiReds084
Since we are on the topic of drop zone I figured I would ask... Is it supposed to spin while it is on its way down? The first time I got on it last summer (yes I waited that long to get on it haha) it did not spin on its way down because of mechanical problems and I heard its supposed to?
Discodude3737
No. It is only supposed to spin(once) on the way up. When it opened it made a full 2 rotations on the way to the top, I don't exactly remember why it changed to just one...anyone?

Jasper
Hmmm i never noticed the door i just always though that they got on top of the ring and rode it to the top and when they got up there climbed through the window.
BoddaH1994
I've actually heard there's an elevator that goes up the center of the shaft.

Beast1979
I rode Drop Zone for the first time in a while this year, and i kinda miss the spin. But it still has that same sheer terror at the top, "Let Me OFF! GET ME OFF HERE! D*NM YOU PEOPLE, LET ME OFF!" *5 seconds later* "Ohh, my, god. GET ME BACK ON! GET ME BACK ON!" memories.... That would be cool to see for the next KIC event... I think there is a spiral stair case inside, idk though...
