CincyMan98
Wow I didn't know flying coasters like that cost so much money. I thought it was a lot less. I still don't understand how a B&M could be $11 million. Is it not very tall or fast or something? Maybe it's not such a big deal.
The Interpreter
As has been stated, that figure is for the purpose of computing the tax abatement. It is NOT the actual cost of the coaster. RailRider has nailed that...The actual projected project cost MAY be announced when the coaster is...
RailRider
Just a thought but if the $11 Million is for only the local impact, then the overall project cost is more likely to be in the $20 to $25 Million range. Factoring in the design and fabrication are done off site and that the cost of these things are easily equal to the site prep and actual construction cost of the project. McSalsa
Im right there with you Beast1979, I expect standard B&M Hyper goodness and there is nothing wrong with that. It may be a B&M Hyper, but how are B&M hypers "Record Breaking and History Making?". I'm not sure...world's longest roller coaster? First Ever Launched B&M Hyper? First ever B&M Giga? Stratacoaster that breaks Kingda Ka's records? Lift hill coaster that shatters all world records at once, like The Beast did in 1979 (465 foot hill, 440 foot drop, 11600 feet long, 135mph BWA HA HA)? I'm waiting for 8/26/2009...
UnrealNightmare
Maybe its only record breaking and history making for the park alone.
McSalsa
Maybe its only record breaking and history making for the park alone. It's possible. But then we would have been lied to. "Carowinds announces B&M Hyper that breaks zero world records" My Response: YOU BIG #^&!*^!^!* LIARS!!! Record Breaking and History Making is the tag, nothing has ever been said about world record breaking. Im sure this is going to be the largest investment in Carowinds History and the Tallest coaster built in the Carolinas. Simple as that. After all these are marketing ploys to hook interest. HTCO
Cedar Fair really likes red track and yellow/maroon supports.
Diamondback FOF
http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/unrestric..._roller_coaster Apparently Carowinds's Coaster will also be Dale Earndhardt themed: New roller coasters at two amusement parks — Kings Dominion in Doswell, Va., and Carowinds in Charlotte — will debut next year with Dale Earnhardt marks as part of a unique licensing agreement with Dale Earnhardt Inc (DEI). But, I don't know how reliable that article is because of the picture that is on there by the start of the article.
Diamondback FOF
Lance from Screamscape said his press invite has a "2009 Dale Earnhardt, Inc." copyright on it. Also, intimidator.carowinds.com works (sorta). You have to put in a username and password, just like KD's website before the announcement. All of the following bring up the log-in page: http://intimidator.carowinds.com/public/ride/ http://intimidator.carowinds.com/public/ride/layout.cfm http://intimidator.carowinds.com/public/ride/statistics.cfm http://intimidator.carowinds.com/public/downloads/videos.cfm http://intimidator.carowinds.com/public/latest/gallery/ http://intimidator.carowinds.com/public/latest/ None of those work for whitelightning.carowinds.com Edit: Pictures: http://www.thrillnetwork.com/boards/park-r...html#post795101
Hoeter
This is all starting to make sense to me now. We know that Kings Dominion is getting a NASCAR themed coaster and it's rumored that Carowinds is as well. Remember the website for Whyte Lightning? It said that Lightning Strikes Twyce. Then I just read an article that said NASCAR originated from the running of moonshine, also known as "White Lightning". Forgive me if I've come to the party a little bit late. Rustbucket
One thing I noticed was that the park already spent $14 million already and expect to spend $11 million for the ride. This is not very clear on how much the total ride costs.
TTD-120-420
We know that Kings Dominion is getting a NASCAR themed giga, and it's rumored that Carowinds is as well. Carowinds is not getting a giga. They are getting a B&M. It will have the same theme as KD's coaster though...
jzarley
If these announcements keep coming, 2010 is gearing up to mark the return of the coaster wars... Of course, all these parks are owned by CF, so this time around it seems to be somewhat of a "Civil War" It would be interesting to know the details of the licensing agreement(s) with Dale Earnhardt, Inc. Granted, I'm not much of a NASCAR fan (or really know anything about it, other than recognizing a few names) but I hate to think CF would have spent a lot of cash on these licensing rights. (Especially as they roll out 50 year-old cartoon characters as the "new" kids' lands across the fleet...)
Diamondback FOF
It may be that they didn't spend too much money (but it is still a pretty penny), but DEI wil almost certainly get a percentage of the profits made from the merchandise. Dan
I wonder if Cedar Fair built a roller coaster that was 59 feet tall, would they market it as the TALLEST, FASTEST, roller coaster under 60 feet. This is just as annoying as the overhyping of new rides Paramount started a few years back.

It's Intimidator, 232 feet tall, over 75 miles per hour, and 5318 (Or something near that) feet long. It's the Tallest, Fastest, Longest coaster in the South. It's a red with grey supported B&M Hypercoaster.
