Let's see here. Malfunction properly detected, safety mechanisms kicked in and worked like they were supposed to, train was safely moved back into the station so riders could get off, no one was injured.

This is news?

If anything, I would say the guests hanging for 90 minutes is the most newsworthy item.

"It's a wonder no one flipped a switch and opened the restraints as I was on the ride".

Clearly, people have no idea how a roller coaster works and or is operated.

That exact ride doing that exact thing at Great America is probably one of the reasons it was moved from that park to begin with... "Completely different" than what happened in California.

So if I'm picturing that coaster correct, its a clone of KIs Invertigo? Heights make me nervous (though going up lift hills doesn't really both me, standing on the top of the Eiffel Tower makes my palms sweat a bit until i get used to it), but I don't think that would bother me too much if I was riding backwards. However if I was in a front facing seat, I'd get used to the height and view eventually, but it would suck to be stuck in the front leaning position for 90 minutes.

Is KI's Invertigo 120' tall? I've never thought of that ride being that tall, guess its higher than I realized.

Very similar to Invertigo, except the up parts go straight up, instead of at an angle like at KI.

Hanging facing straight down in the Invertigo restraints would be awful for 5 minutes, much less 90, though the story is sensationalized to the max.

^ The ride's lifts are at an angle, it is the exact same ride as Invertigo at KI. You are thinking of a Vekoma giant inverted boomerang like Goliath at SFNE, Stinger and Invertigo are regular Vekoma inverted boomerangs.

The comment about "flipping the wrong switch" kind of reminds me of people who think that coasters immediately stop in their tracks if the power goes out- "Would it get stuck in the loop?!"
