My First Ever Trip to Cedar Point 7-30-2012

I was so excited that my aunt and two cousins invited me to go on their trip to Cedar Point with them. This was a first trip for myself and my cousins. We left for Sandusky on Sunday morning about 10:30 and got to our hotel, Breakers Express, about 3:00. As far as the hotel is concerned, we were very disappointed considering it is a Cedar Point Resort. They are very basic rooms with double beds, no refrigerators or microwaves. We didn't expect it to be fancy or anything but a little nicer for the money we paid to stay there. The worse part of our stay was on our first night in the hotel my mom opened the drawer to the nightstand and found dirty boxer shorts, dirty socks and a man's tank top that someone had left there and housekeeping had not discovered. When housekeeping brought up our rollaway bed, we told her about the under garments, she was very surprised and took them away with her. It made us wonder just how well they actually clean the rooms. The park perks we got from staying at the resort were great but we certainly will not stay at this particular resort again next year.

So now on to my park report. We arrived at 9:00 a.m. for early ride time and entered the park through the Marina gate, a very useful tip I learned from someone here on KIC. My aunt and I headed straight to Millenium while my cousins went with my mom to Raptor. We had about a fifteen minute wait for Millenium and they had a ten minute wait on Raptor. We all enjoyed our rides, and I must admit that even though I love Diamondback, I think I like Millenium, a little more.

From there we met up at Iron Dragon which was about a five minute wait. The ride was fun but we all prefer Top Gun/Flight Deck. From there we went straight to Maverick which was about a thirty minute wait. Considering the fact that I had only ridden Flight of Fear one time, this was my second inverted coaster. It banged my head a little but it wasn't horrible, I will definately ride it again next year. This was the end of ERT and we were happy that we each got three major rides in before 10:30.

From Maverick we decided to do a few smaller rides so we did the Caddillac cars which was fun because it was the first time we had ridden anything like it. I wish KI still had cars to drive like that. We did the Cedar Creek Mine ride and we all agree that AE is much better. Then my cousins and my Aunt rode Skyhawk which they really enjoyed. I'm not that big of a thrillseeker to ride with them. We then went to Thunder Canyon which was really fun, I was the driest one coming off the ride, it was awesome. We prefer WWC because it is a longer ride but we did love the waterfalls on TC. I liked the fact that we could take our shoes off and leave them in the bucket. We didn't have to worry about anyone stealing our shoes because my mom stayed and watched them.

We looked at some of the shops in Frontier Town, that was pretty neat. We talked to the man in the wood carving shop, he was really nice. My mom talked to a girl in the rock store about KI. The girl has never been to the park and is planning to come down with a friend sometime this summer. My mom suggested she does not come on a Saturday, if it has to be on the weekend she should come on a Sunday.

Then we headed towards the front of the park and did some souvenir shopping. We all got t-shirts and I also got a keychain with my name on it. Then we rode Cedar Downs which was really fun because we got to race each other. I won both times. Then it was time to ride Matterhorn which we really enjoyed as well. We rode the skyride a few times, this was my first time on anything like that and I was nervous but it was better than I thought it would be. I got some good pictures on this ride.

After all of this, my day took a drastic turn, I came down with some type of a stomach bug. I went to the first aid station and they were really nice and let me lay down, drink some gatorade and eat crackers. This helped alot so I headed back out into the park after about an hour. I made the mistake of riding Gemini as soon as I left first aid and I ended up having to have the firstaid truck come and pick me up and take me back to the station. The EMT that rode in the back with me was really nice. He talked to me about the different coasters at both KI and Cedar Point. I ended up spending the rest of my night at the first aid station. The worst part of being there was hearing the train every five minutes going "toot toot". The EMT was so nice that he had a driver take my mom and I to our car at the end of the night. It was pretty awesome because I got to see some of the back parts of the park, we went behind Mean Streak and Millenium Force. My cousins got to ride a few more rides than I did but that's okay I got to go behind the scenes in a sense.

Once the driver dropped us off at the gate we sat and watched Luminosity. We all really enjoyed the show, DJ Shadow was awesome. We left the park about 11:15, everyone walking out of the park in our group was singing "Call Me Maybe".

So this is my Trip Report for my first trip to Cedar Point, I hope you enjoy it. We can't wait to go back next year. I didn't get to ride Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum XL-200 or Mean Streak since I got sick so they will have to wait til next year. We are planning to stay at Castaway Bay next year. We went there on Tuesday before we left to play at the waterpark and it is a very nice hotel. Certainly much better than Breakers Express and the dirty underwear suprise in the drawer.

Maverick and FOF are coasters with inversions, not inverted coasters.

From Maverick we decided to do a few smaller rides so we did the Caddillac cars which was fun because it was the first time we had ridden anything like it.

If they are the cars in Frointier Town, you rode the Antique Cars, Cad Cars are on the main midway.

The rock shop, wood carver and any other shop between the bridge by SRF and Red Garter Saloon are on Frontier Trail, not Frontier Town. Ones a pioneer settlement, the other is an old west town. The wood carver is awsome and works around the clock, year around. In the off season he moves to the Merry-Go-Round Museum in downtown Sandusky. I'd link you to an article about him, but unfortunate it no longer exist

EXCELLENT Trip Report, Beastie! That certainly will be a trip you'll remember for a loooong time! Sorry to hear about the stomach thing, but it sounds like you were taken care of very well.

Magnum and Mean Streak are wonderful coasters. Sorry you didn't get to experience them.

I wish our Rivertown even remotely resembled their Frontiertown. Trees, water wheels, and no big Dippin' Dots signs to obstruct the train. :(

I just wanted to update everyone on the problems at the hotel. My mom contacted the management at Breakers Express today and they gave us a discount on our stay. The manager was very friendly and helpful. Hopefully this never happens to any of their future guests. This was my first trip to another park other than KI since I started riding coasters and I can't wait to go back again next year. I really want to ride Dragster and Magnum.

Dragster in my humble opinion, is (and this is how *I* view it) nothing but 34 seconds of speed (and a lot of that is slowing down). Why would you wait 2 hours for 30 seconds for something? I find it nothing special, but it's apparently a crowd pleaser, so whatever.

Yes, I cannot believe I let Dragster scare me for 8 years before finally getting the courage to ride it last year at Coastermania with Avatar and Indyguy4KI. It still gives me a HUGE rush, and my front seat ride last Friday was like nothing Ive ever in my Life experienced. And FYI, its 17 seconds.

Actually it only 17 seconds. But you know, close enough.
