February 5, 201313 yr I love the little compass directional thing on top of the building. I imagine that was fun while up on the Eiffel Tower
February 5, 201313 yr I recall in the mid 70's at the stage just to the left of the Scooby Doo coaster there was a magic act. The magician would do a trick with rope where he would tie a knot in the rope, then slide the knot off the rope. He would take the knot and toss it into the audience. My family kept going back to the show untill he finally tossed me the knot. That was also when there was a magic shop and kite store on International Street....
February 5, 201313 yr I love the little compass directional thing on top of the building. I imagine that was fun while up on the Eiffel Tower As a kid, I really thought that it was neat. (I also, for a little bit, believed that the HB cartoons somehow really came from that building (they used to play the theme songs from the Jetsons, Flintstones, Scooby Doo, etc. over loudspeakers attached to the exterior of the building.) I asked my mom if it was true, and she said "No, honey, they're made way out in California." Still loved the illusion, though! )
February 5, 201313 yr Photo #36 - International Street Fountains - Postcard I wish the fountain lights still lit up like that.
February 7, 201313 yr Author Photo #37 - Halley's Comet Sign (back) - Originally from Coney Island Shooting Star.
February 7, 201313 yr You unfortunately do not see elaborate light up signs like that anymore. In fact, at one point in time, the signs for just about every ride in Coney Mall (Racer, Monster, Scrambler, Dodgems, Vortex all used to have lights around their entrance signs. Excellent picture, Paul. I have not seen that one before!
February 8, 201313 yr Photo #37 - Halley's Comet Sign (back) - Originally from Coney Island Shooting Star. Did you flip that picture horizontally, or was Halley's Comet really located on the opposite side of The Racer?
February 8, 201313 yr Photo #37 - Halley's Comet Sign (back) - Originally from Coney Island Shooting Star.Did you flip that picture horizontally, or was Halley's Comet really located on the opposite side of The Racer?Alternatively, the image could have been flipped horizontally before he got the picture. Whichever it is, the picture is still quite nice to see.
February 8, 201313 yr Author Your correct the photo should be flipped around, typically when people scan slides its common for photos to be reversed.
February 9, 201313 yr now this one I know I have seen before. I used to watch that ride all the time. mom and dad would like to ride it and I would watch it for like 2 or 3 cycles and then go into the store and wait for them to come out of the exit.
February 9, 201313 yr It's hard to fathom that the ride-ops in that picture are likely all in their mid to late forties. Suddenly, I definitely feel in my dotage.
February 9, 201313 yr I miss the old Amazon Falls sign with the little waterfall in it. Best signature ever!
February 10, 201313 yr Loving all of these photos, they really do paint a picture of how the park looked back through the decades.
February 10, 201313 yr I am more amazed at the line of Adventure Express in the second one. This picture did give me some good ideas as to where the footers you can still see were used at in King Cobra though.
February 10, 201313 yr I remember when the line for AE used to stretch all the way around to were the King Cobra helix was, where Delirium is today.
February 12, 201313 yr I can't help but notice there has been no new picture for a couple days. Hope you have'nt given up on it, as I have really enjoyed all the stuff you have posted so far. Thanks
February 12, 201313 yr I've noticed that this thread and Kings Island's "photo of the day" have mirrored each other at times!
February 14, 201313 yr That would be the Flying Dutchman. The ride was relocated to Kentucky Kingdom after being removed from Kings Island.
February 14, 201313 yr Once again all these old KI photos are reminding me that I seriously need to dig through our old family photos and see if I can find some KI ones.
