rcwizard13
No, this is not a 2014 thread, but, 2014 did get me thinking. Banshee was trademarked and everyone brought up the whole Mantis/Banshee thing. So, I thought we should have a thread around the name. Do you like it? Dislike it? Why? Post your thoughts here. Personally, I have no problem with the name. Of course, it would have to be used for a thrilling, scream inducing machine. This would make the train full of riders the "Banshee". I think it's very clever and if actually used, may become by favorite name for a ride.
McSalsa
I honestly would have no problem with it- it's a cool name, and Holiday World even used it on one of their flat rides for over a decade, and they are known for being very conservative and the family is known to be deeply religious. Plus, we have other rides around the country named "Demon" (Kings Island even had one with that name in the past)...and no one complains/ed about any of those. I don't know why Cedar Point had such an issue with the name Banshee come up when they originally built Mantis, when Holiday World got away with it and other equally/worse "evil" names for coasters exist...perhaps the Sandusky area is super conservative or something (not that I would know...)? The Interpreter
Or perhaps the problem, as has been stated here numerous times, was not with the public or its reaction, but rather either a legal problem with the name or an internal to Cedar Fair problem with its use (as in a Kinzel family member thought it offensive).
McSalsa
^Looking at it that way, that suddenly does seem like a serious possibility. And now with Kinzel no longer the CEO...perhaps the name came back up...just a thought there. (Granted, the GM of Carowinds is still a Kinzel, but would he have any input on rides going in at Kings Island?)

Did said family possibly have one of these - you know, the type you only see at weddings & funerals (kinda like most of my family - IF I go to the weddings or funerals) but, nonetheless, did not want to create volatile inner-family emotional situations by using such a vulgar metaphor? YoungStud
Millennium force is a great coaster, top thrill dragster, raptor, magnum, etc. Those names are cool. I rode Banshee at KI. That does not sound cool in my opinion.
Thrill_Biscuit
At least it will have a name... After "Flight Deck, Drop Tower, and Backlot Stunt Coaster," I was beginning to wonder just how hard it really was to get an imaginative moniker for new attractions...

secondson
Personally I can't stand the name "Banshee"....and really hope they don't name it that. I'm going to flip this around a bit, and ask the question: "Why do so many people want an evil, creepy theme/name for a coaster?"
jcgoble3
^ Because the coaster is supposed to scare people? I like the name. If HW can use it without a problem, so can KI.
Colonel_SoB_fan
So if Holiday World does something then KI can as well?
jcgoble3
The point is that HW used the name without issues for quite a while. So KI shouldn't have any issues if they choose to use it.
secondson
^ Because the coaster is supposed to scare people? Who said the coaster is supposed to scare people? Besides, I guess "Gatekeeper", "Millennium Force", "Intimidator", "Dominator", "Top Thrill Dragster", "Full Throttle", "Maverick", "Patriot", "OzIris" and a LOT of other steel coasters aren't meant to scare people because they don't have scary names....right?? I don't give a flying fat rat's behind anymore, to be honest. KI is going to build what it wants to build and will name it what they want to name it. In fact, they could build a 10' high coaster that only goes 20mph and name it "Purple Baby Dinosaur" for all I care. I'm tired of this whole "guess the type and name of the new coaster" game. I will never for the life of me understand why people are so fascinated with evil creepy things.
Zayzayd13
Deos a name really matter? Why is it that people are getting so worked up over the name Banshee. If it was the best ride in the park, would you not ride it because of the name?

When they introduced Gatekeeper, there was an evil looklng character in all black looking over the park guest at the entrance.
KIfan73
The Racer is named because it…races. The Beast was named because the project became a "beast" (at least I think I read that). Gatekeeper is the keeper of the front gate at CP. Should this new ride be called "Bad Memory Eraser"?
The Interpreter
Mind Eraser is a Six Flags coaster. At Six Flags, including at America. A Vekoma SLC. See also other Six Flags parks and Darien Lake.

upstop
call it Steel Coaster.
YoungStud
Bizarro is way cooler than Banshee.
Coaster.Rider.Kings Island
Banshee is a cool name. I think the name should give you a clue to what kind of ride you are going to have.
Screaming_Chicken
I totally dig the name! Besides, it could be themed (if they DO theme it) so well.
jdawg1998
If the logo's good, I don't care. One of the main reasons why I hated the Mysteria haunt was because the logo looked like it was done by a ten year old using Microsoft Paint. The name doesn't matter to me as long as they incorporate it well.
faeriewench
I see you have been to Lagoon. And/or New York New York Casino. Just to mention two. The Roller Coaster! Even though I don't like it, the ride I mean, I still call it Manhattan (hey...still some signage about there advertising it as Manhattan so why not?) I will never for the life of me understand why people are so fascinated with evil creepy things. I like creepy things. Says the retired Haunt monster...
markr
As a recall Banshee is a creature from Irish folklore and many residents in the Sandusky area with Irish roots were offended by the name when the ride was announced in the Fall of 1995 so CP changed the ride name to Mantis. I thought it was kind of silly considering that no one in the community seemed to object to Demon Drop.
TheCrypt
I find it silly the explanation for the name change has been pointed out several times yet people seem to insist on "public outcry" and other garbage.
IndyGuy4KI
I like the name Banshee! I also like it better than using the generic manufactures name for a ride.
TheBEASTunchained
I like the name Banshee! I also like it better than using the generic manufactures name for a ride. Hank
There's always room for Jello because it calls ahead for a reservation! Without knowing what the ride will entail, quite possibly it could be such that riders will make bone-chilling screams. There's always room......
