MidnightBeast Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I caught a video of lightning striking the Eiffel Tower last night at the park. We had to leave by about 10:30 because of the storm, but I felt so lucky to see this. http://youtu.be/Z4-pVsMBQZM 29 Quote

LoraX Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 We were at Chicken Shack when we heard a very loud noise. We knew it hit something. We thought it hit Festhaus. We felt the vibration over there. 4 Quote
BoddaH1994 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I was in the Festhaus. The light was so bright and the boom was so loud that I thought it had actually hit the building, but I think this answers that. To set the record straight, the Eiffel Tower gets struck by lightning dozens of time each year. It's designed to withstand it. This is not out of the norm and it's done very safely. On another note, you're totally AWESOME for catching this on video!!! 13 Quote
TheBEASTunchained Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Wow! Great video, it's very awesome that you were able to capture this! 2 screenshots from Midnightbeast's video: The New Kentucky Kingdom, trying to make its presence known here in Mason?...... 17 Quote
KIfan73 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 That should be their commercial for Haunt! 10 Quote
beastfan11 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Hahaha. The sudden screams of terror in the video. 4 Quote
thedevariouseffect Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Lindz has said that that is the first time in five years that it has been struck by lightning in season while the park is running 9 Quote
jdawg1998 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 That's what it was! It scared everyone half to death. That is pretty sweet. 5 Quote
Italian Job 2005 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 If for anyone was touching the tower at the moment of the strike, they would probably be in terrible pain. Quote
Guest dtk1376 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 The antenna on top of the tower surves more purposes than just increasing recorded height ;-) 2 Quote
Magenta Lizard Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Excellent catch! Were you just trying to get a recording of the storm in general? 2 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 The antenna on top of the tower surves more purposes than just increasing recorded height ;-) Really? Kings Dominion? Quote
Guest dtk1376 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Never been to Kings Dominion, care to elaborate? Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 It doesn't have the antenna, but rather the original decorative topper. Quote
Nick_Plummer Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Was anyone on the tower when it happened? Quote
thedevariouseffect Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 No..all rides go down in storms like that.. Quote
DJSkyFoxx Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Just natures way of saying hello. Haha. That's beautiful. I love lightning and storms. It makes me feel alive and truly part of this amazing planet. On a side note, I am grateful for the grounding beams on the attractions that reside in the park that are close enough to get struck that protect them. 12 Quote
Ride On_17 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 That's so awesome! You're lucky you were filming when that happened. I think we all love you for that! 2 Quote
harmony29 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I was there last night too, we were the next to board Banshee when they shut it down. We stayed for about 10 minutes and kept looking at all the lightening and knew it would not reopen. We were lucky we were in the parking lot when the storm hit and thank goodness only got a little wet. Was a very frustrating day at KI though, I know why I never go on Saturdays, every where we went it seemed like two hour waits. I won a Fast Lane pass at Diamondback at about 6:00 and it took 45 minutes to board in that lane. We were in line for Banshee in the morning only to have it shut down for an hour due to the storms, but we did wait it out. And then my husband waiting over an hour for Firehawk when it went down, he was about two trains away from boarding. Nothing of fault of anyone, just frustrating not to mention we were dealing with our friend's very temperamental 13 year old who didn't want to ride any rides or walk for that matter. Jeremy and I have decided this was not our honeymoon and we will be going back in the next few weeks alone lol. 7 Quote
malem Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 ^ If you win a front-of-the-line pass with Plinko or another game, you don't have to wait in the Fast Lane queue. You can* go directly through the exit for immediate boarding.*Many game winners do use the Fast Lane queues, and these passes are officially accepted there. Policies change often; ask the game host or Guest Services for current rules and procedures. 5 Quote
The Interpreter Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 45 minutes for Diamondback in the Fast Lane? How does THAT happen? Wow. 9 Quote
harmony29 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 No clue Interpreter, I couldn't believe it was that long of a wait, but at least they let us pick front row. I had no idea you didn't have to wait for the passes you win, that's what I did, spun the wheel and won, geesh I guess I need to pay better attention! 1 Quote

Thrill_Biscuit Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 We saw it from the Kroger parking lot! Didn't see the actual contact with the tower, but we were sure it hit somewhere in the park. It was cool to come on here and see you caught it on video! Excellent! 4 Quote
PKIVortex Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 You guys are spoiled I was at park yesterday and no way every ride had a two hour wait. You can do a lot on a Saturday. I can only go on Weekends as I work during the week. The park wasn't really that bad I've seen much much worse. Your day is how u make it. Quote

PKIVortex Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I had a good time at the park yesterday. I'm not going to blame the park for the weather and closing early. Quote
