DISCLAIMER: THE FOLLOWING ARE MY THOUGHTS AND I NEVER WANTED THIS TO OFFEND ANYBODY!!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Hey guys,

On the subject, I have been to Winterfest and it totally blowed. I mean this thing sucked more than Paris Hilton at the Playboy Mansion. Fearfest is the single greatest event the park has ever had! So many people come out to fearfest and with PKI attracting families and kids to the "friendly" side of Fearfest, even more crowds are coming.

In todays world, winter is now cold and rainy more than cold and snowy... like it used to be in the Winterfest days. Trust me, NO ONE (except the hardcore PKI fans) will drag thier butts out in freezing rain only to see some Christmas lights on the Eiffel Tower and ride the bumper cars. It will be close to impossible to make money during Winterfest, Fearfest is a money-making machine!

Now I am not praising Fearfest for my love of halloween, there are still alot of problems with the event... but PKI is slowly working out the bugs. I am simply stating (from a business stand point) that by eliminating Fearfest to bring back Winterfest will be the dumbest business mistake the park has ever made.

If PKI where to shorten Fearfest by any means, the park would not open Fearfest until later in the month and run until Halloween. Not open up and run until the second-to-last weekend in October to prepare for Winterfest.

I hope I didn't **** anybody off, I am simply stating my views on this topic. Take Care. -Hauntguy

I agree with your comments HauntGuy. However, The Beach seems to be doing a pretty good business attracting people to its Winter Celebration in Decemeber. I don`t think the park should scrap FearFest, or shorten it. I do think that if they forgo the extra weekend in November though, there will be no loss to FearFest. If done right, Winterfest can add even more guests and income for the park. The trick is making it so that people want to come to the park in the winter, and not just the diehard fans.

Many parks/zoos etc are doing a christmas light displays and hauntguy I respect your views but the cincinnati zoo and clifton mill and other places rack in the money every single year. To say people wont drag there butts out into the cold is wrong to say because in winter more people are sick of being stuck in the house and go out to a park or zoo of whatever to see the christmas light displays just to get out of the house people will got to PKI if they go with Winterfest.

The Zoo and Clifton Mill do a good job on the Christmas displays they have. PKI would have to offer something totally new and un-seen to visitors. Just throwing up lights and opening a few rides isn't going to cut it. PKI also has to think about drawing the same crowd to Winterfest that they would during the summer. I am sure PKI just doesn't want to attract local people, but people from Indiana, Kentucky, Up-state Ohio, etc. PKI would have to "go-all-out" in Winterfest to even make a profit. The have the Halloween season basically dominated, so why worry with the Winter season? I also believe that the later the park stays open (like in the winter), the later the park will open (like in Mid May or June). Just my thoughts. -Hauntguy

Yeah but not everyone likes Halloween...WinterFest ruled when they had it in 80's and early 90's like I said before people wanna get out and have fun in the winter PKI can very very easily give winterfest new life and new meaning why not have winterfest its fun its something to do.

Because people love christmas and to beat those offseason blues and some people dont like Halloween I see PKI bringing back winterfest but with new and unseen things.

Attract the same crowds they get during the summer?? Thats impossible. Not every thing would be open and people know that. When winterfest was around before mostly just Area Managers and Supervisors worked the food stands (don't know about the other departments). Since mainly only stuff up front of the park is open and its not as busy during the Winter than it is during the Summer, not the same amount of staff is needed. So with less people coming to the park, and less people working, and less attractions open, there definetly can be a profit made. Profit was made back in the old days. It was done away with cause Paramount didn't know anything about running that stuff, like they didn't know anything about the hotel business at the time, so they sold off the hotel also.

They know some people will come from like Kentucky and Indiana and maybe other parts of Ohio because of the name but they sure know that they won't get as many people during the summer since not everything is open and... not everyone enjoys "Christmas Lights" or the cold.

Keep in mind that in the survey a while back, they asked if people would ride The Beast when it was cold out. I don`t forsee them havening The Beast open if they have Winterfest, because that would be one frigid ride when it is 20 degrees outside. However, they could, as mentioned previously, have The Carousel, Dodgems, and Scooby open. Additionally, they could also have newer indoor rides like Flight of Fear, Action Theater and Tomb Raider open since they are heated. Although, they might not want that much of the park open, and they would have less time for the off season rehab, which would probably occur between January and opening day in April.

You have to look at this from a business stand-point and not a "guests' appreciation" stand-point. Sure, people will come to Winterfest and in the "good old days" PKI was a great place to visit for winter fun. But times have changed, the economy is not as good as it used to be, we are at war, the weather has changed ALOT from what it was in the old Winterfest days! The cost of running Winterfest would be much more pricey than it did back when Winterfest was an every-year thing. I like the way PKI is running right now, event's wise. They close early enough to get the new rides built and working correctly and PKI also has time to refurbish older items like rides, games, shops, etc. With Winterfest, PKI would have to start later, and risk not getting the jobs done.... unless they opened later in the year. -Hauntguy

As Jeff put it last weekend, let's remember that WinterFest was only one third of the park's history!

We didn't have it at first ten years, then did, then didn't. I don't forsee it coming back anytime real soon. Although I truly believe the park wants it to, it's just not costly and labor or fesible.

I still don't know. You may recall at the tour when someone asked Jeff about Winterfest coming back, he responded, "Well, that has been a BIG rumor." He also teased with it a little too much at the CDBB tour at the end of the 2003 season.

Now, I'm not really one to read entirely too much into what imply is going to happen, but it almost seems like this one is put out on the table for us.

Fearfest is (most likely) a HUGE profit maker. They pack the park everytime with famillies and guest. I will go as far to say that the Fearfest attendence at PKI could be compared to Knott's Scary Farm's attendence. Fearfest is a iron-fisted money maker. The hints of improvement will tell you that Fearfest is making money. Added decor, added haunted attractions, attraction renovation, more actors, new props..... it is simply making money. I see Fearfest hanging around for a LONG time!

Let's think......

Fright by Night: Teens, Couples, Families with older kids, Young adults and younger married couples. I have seen some seniors there but not very many. The demographic of Fearfest is about 13-45 years old.

Fun by Day: Kids, yound teens, Families with children, seniors, and some couples. This demographic is anywhere from 3-12 year's old.

PKI attracts HUGE ammounts of people from both demographs. This "tag-line" is actually MORE people than Fearfest did when PKI first started out. PKI is simply stating that Fearfest is now a family event. Both scary and terrorfying to gently and a little spooky. Fun for everybody!!!

I believe that PKI will make it VERY clear in the future that the H-B side of the park is for the kids...more of a Disney atmosphere. They will also state that Oktoberfest, The Coney Maul, and Shivertown (like that didn't ya!) is more for adults and teens. I think just getting the info out there better to the customers would ressolve this problem. -Hauntguy
