Regardless of the coaster model it ends up being, I do think it will be a highly-themed attraction since that already seems like the direction Cedar Fair is going with their new coasters. (The exception being TT2, though that's likely due to it being an unplanned addition)

The specific theme itself will likely depend on where it's going to be located in the park. If it's in The Vortex plot, I could see it having sort of mid-20th century theme to match with Coney Mall. Though, I would prefer if it didn't have a car theme since KMAA and Backlot are already right there. Maybe some sort of county-fair science project theme where you've been tasked to test it out? Or maybe some sort of major storm system has hit the coney mall area and you are tasked with investigating it? (the storm theme could also connect to Vortex as well)

For Action Zone, I've always said that the area itself needs a major re-theme, likely a haunted woods theme to alllow the theme work with both Banshee and Bat. Keeping with this theme, I've had the idea of some sort of Owl-themed flying or dive coaster. Despite all of the bird and hawk coaster names that Cedar Fair tends to love using, an Owl-themed coaster hasn't been done yet (at least to my knowledge).

I'm all for a haunted re-theme for Action Zone since Banshee and Bat reside there. I once read someone suggesting a "Cryptid Creek" theme for the area and I thought that would be really cool since Ohio has a lot of cryptid lore.

I believe the next coaster should go in The Vortex plot but AZ is in desperate need of an overhaul. So my hope would be a 2025 AZ retheme but not a new coaster do it in the style of Aeronautica Landing at Carowinds and just add a bunch of theming and new flat rides. They can add a new coaster themed to the new AZ down the line after The Vortex replacement. I think it was @Hawaiian Coasters 325 who mentioned the idea of Haunted Hill for the name of the Action Zone retheme. I really like that idea.

If I had to choose this would be my 5 year plan for KI. Starting from 2025 ending at 2030.

2025: Park improvements. A new restaurant and more trees in AP.

2026: Action Zone retheme into a haunted area. Paint Banshee, give Delirium, Drop Tower new names and repaints. Maybe Drop Tower could be renamed to Scream Zone to pay homage to its former name while fitting with the new theme. Paint The Bat, maybe to a Black track color scheme? Two new flat rides, maybe a Zamperla NebulaZ and a S&S Screamin Swing?

2027: Soak City addition. SC is In desperate need of something new and personally I don’t visit SC very often I think a new water slide would work really well. Maybe that new family water slide collection that Schlitterbahn is getting next year.

2028: New coaster in The Vortex plot. Mack Rides extreme Spinner would be what I would pick but as long as the new coaster is a unique model it would be a good choice. Retheme Backlot to tie in with the new coaster and make the area between River Town and Coney Mall a new section of the park with these two coasters.

2029: A bit of a quiet year, more park improvements. Maybe retrack Woodstock Express with the GG.

2030: Boo Blasters retheme into a new dark ride. Maybe the revival of Phantom Theater?

Point is KI is still going strong and has so many options I can’t wait to see how the park grows in the future! Let me know your thoughts below.

I don't see KI going 8 years without a major coaster. I think 2027 is the absolute latest with my money on 2026. 2025 I think will be Soak City's year. My theory is they fill The Vortex plot first before starting on Action Zone as I feel like AZ will be a multi phase renovation/expansion.

I've given some thought regarding a new launch coaster for Kings Island. From a pure marketing perspective, I don't think a standard launch or multi launch coaster would make the most sense for Kings Island primarily for two reasons:

  1. Kings Island already having two launch coasters. Although they are both old launch coasters, specifically with Flight of Fear almost being 30 years old, some of the general public still see it as the park's signature launch coaster and also has the benefit of being indoors, in-the-dark and has great theming for the park that it's in.
  2. Cedar Point recently adding Top Thrill 2 and already having Maverick. Although they are different parks, they still exist within the same state and do share an audience that visits both parks. Assuming our next coaster comes in 2026 or 2027, Top Thrill 2 would still be rather new addition by then.

That's not to say I don't think Kings Island will get a new launch coaster. I think if they do get a new launch coaster, it will likely have some sort of marketable gimmick that will set it apart from the other launch coasters in the area. I think a Mack Rides Xtreme Spinner would fit this criteria well (and would be my personal favorite), but I think there are other options that could be likely as well, maybe even more-so.

  1. New-gen Vekoma Flyer (akin to F.L.Y. at Phantasialand): This is important to mention since Kings Island will be working with Vekoma on SSBR. Although I don't believe Kings Island got a package deal from Vekoma for it's next major coaster (as I think it would already be paid for and installed sooner than 2026), it is possible Kings Island's relationship with Vekoma could strengthen if SSBR does very well for the park. If KI does go with this option, this would give Ohio a flying coaster back (since the removal of Firehawk) and would give a different flying experience than any other flying coaster in the area. I also believe it would be good for capacity, given the new load system and 20-person trains as opposed to the 16-person trains you would get on an Xtreme Spinner.
  2. B&M Surf Coaster: I know some people might not like the idea of Kings Island getting a fourth B&M (myself included), but it is difficult to ignore just how strong Cedar Fair's relationship with B&M is. A surf coaster is one of the few options Kings Island has for a new B&M coaster that doesn't overlap with anything at Cedar Point. It would also provide an unique stand-up experience that would make it stand out (no pun intended) from any other B&M coaster at Kings Island. Capacity is also important to note here, as Pipeline runs with 24-person trains (the most of the three models mentioned). This is the most likely option of the three in my opinion.

Yep I’ve mentioned this exact point before I 100% agree with you. It has to be really unique or I don’t see attendance going up the way CF wants it to. I believe these are the 3 best options as well.

Edit: Added Vekoma flyer to the poll for those who wish to choose that option.

Well, I was trying to pick Mack Extreme Spinner. Somehow I picked B&M dive. I absolutely love Time Traveler and think one of those would be absolutely a hit in Vortex's old plot of land.

Sorry for double post. I fixed it if you wish to vote for Mack extreme spinner. You should be able to. If not let me know.

I am of the Vekoma Launch/Ground up RMC camp. I think the former is more likely than the latter, but those are my feelings on the matter. The Vekoma launch feels more likely for reasons stated above as it could be part of a package deal in place that we are unaware of OR the new family boomerang could possibly be a tester for them to see how that relationship could go with a larger more complex product. In a dream world I would love to see a ground up RMC, but I know the reality is quite slim to none.

I've yet to ride a Mack Extreme Spinner, and I would like to try one out, but for myself I am not much on spinning due to my motion sickness. I can combat it to a comfortable degree with Sea Bands, but anything that spins too much will override the effectiveness of those. I still, however would like to try Time Traveler just to see, but honestly my vote just isn't there for one of these rides personally.

This video really helped me to understand how it works.
