BoddaH1994
Conveniently announced after the bulk of their passes were sold.
PKIVortex
Can't say I blame them. They probably lost money being open last year, and it probably didn't help with seasonal maintenance, Carowinds just don't have what it takes to be open year around. Can't say I'm not surprised. Winterfestguy
Nice to see Carowinds open on Easter March 31 (Easter is early in 2024) and open for the entire week after Easter for spring breakers. But at the same time sad since Kings Island won’t be open on the Easter Sunday in March.

Taylor.B03
Curious to see if Carowinds retains more rides being open during winterfest from last year.

DispatchMaster
Not necessarily. Not everything is a conspiracy.
CoastersRZ
And yet Dollywood just announced that they were adding 23 more operating days to their 2024 calendar. They are now open 280 days in 2024. https://hfe.widen.net/s/hm2pjhbzhb/24dw_opcal_festivals Without a festival and not being in a very touristy area, can`t say that I am too surprised that KD and Carowinds cut their year round hours. I am still a little surprised that they haven`t tried to bring Winterfest to any of the legacy Cedar Fair parks. Worlds of Fun had Winterfest, but have since discontinued it. Knott`s of course has something, but other than that, Winterfest is just held at the former Paramount Parks.

Personally I feel like they were trying to compete with BGW for KD and they hopped on the Charolette bandwagon with Carowinds. 47 minutes ago, CoastersRZ said: I am still a little surprised that they haven`t tried to bring Winterfest to any of the legacy Cedar Fair parks. I’m surprised too. I don’t know a lot about those parks respective markets but, typically if you’re in the entertainment/hospitality industry, holidays are a good time to make extra money. I could see an argument for why Valleyfair or Michigan’s Adventure don’t have their own Winterfest- weather might play a factor. Regarding WoF, IIRC they claimed it was a “business decision” which is maybe why they’ve held off on Dorney. My wonky guess is staffing plays a part in why they didn’t bring it back for Worlds of Fun.
CoastersRZ
Yes. But Dorney is not far from Hershey, and they do their own Christmas event. I have never been, but it seems successful. They don`t need to do it on as large of a scale as what they do at Kings Island, etc. Have some of the flat rides open, have a couple of shows, offer ice skating, etc. It would seem like they could pull something like that off. It may not bring in a ton of revenue, but a little bit of revenue is better than a fixed asset sitting unused.
Taylor.B03
It also looks like CGA is also ending the experiment
