Major Update to the Kings Island Chaperone Policy

Featured Replies

And yet on the KI web page it doesn't show that....is it an old article that didn't get updated but the "publish" date did?

What am I missing? What are the possible large implications? How many people come to the park with 10 minors? How would they all even get there in one vehicle...legally? (Not counting a city bus.)

The chaperone must accompany the minor(s) at all times now.

Thanks...I missed that one! :P

They will do ANYTHING but add a clause that allows legal adults aged 18-20 to take, at bare minimum, 1 person 15 or younger to the park.

You, sir, clearly have never been to the circus.

Is that Tony Clark in yellow with the green gloves?

In seriousness, I think its a perfect addition.  Its much easier to get someone(s) to comply when the authority figure/responsible party is present than it is having one SOMEWHERE within nearly 500 acres.  For example, how many times do we speed or do a myriad of other less than legal things in hopes the Officer wont see us vs. how many times do we do the same with an Officer behind or in front of us?

For someone who came to the park often as a kid, without a chaperone because I respected the park rules, I’m sad to see that kids who are responsible are being punished for what other unruly kids do. With that being said, now being an adult I’m glad the park is cracking down on this. I’ve seen several unattended groups of youth just this year. I’ve had a few run ins in the past with kids bumping into my group or just kids running in the midway with no respect to the people around them. This is a minor change but it has some pretty big implications now.

As i said earlier, I believe it is an old article that got an updated published date from an old version of the policy before it was implemented.

Check out my 2nd post above that is a screenshot from earlier today and compare it to a not even 3 hours later screenshot and now they added "Last updated 5/4/24" that was not there just a few hours ago.  I believe this is in response to this article and shows that the requirement to stay with is not accurate.

The WXIX article had been updated and they added a date reference that now just makes the article look dated lol:

The changes came into effect on May 4 after multiple “unruly” incidents occurred at Kings Island involving juveniles in the past.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated park guests 15 years old and younger should be accompanied by a chaperone at all times while in the park. Kings Island management says a chaperone must accompany anyone 15 or younger into the park and 1. Remain in the park while their juvenile party is here and 2. be available to their group via phone throughout the day.

It is unfortunately a sign of these times I suppose that this has to be implemented.

I cherish the days as a preteen and teenager enjoying the park so many summer days by myself or with some friends. So many fantastic memories! Like I have said before, as a young kid, I never thought once of causing any problems at the park. It is my Zen place and always has been, so I treat it with the respect it is due.

Line jumping and stupid behavior has always been a thing by few, but it seems more prevalent now at times. My parents and grandparents would have made my life miserable if I behaved badly at the park. But they never had to worry about that because KI is so special to me.

Me too.  My mom worked in the employee cafeteria for years, and there would be many a days that I spent in the waterpark and the park alone, while she was working.  It was great, and I also knew that I better not screw it up.  That seems to be missing with some today.

What a great memory, that must’ve been so cool as a kid.
