Worlds of Fun ride removal rumors

Slingshot and King Cobra were both repainted shortly before they were removed. It does happen, unfortunately.

With that logic, then ELI (WOF railroad) and Le Taxitour could possibly be on the chopping block as well.
The former has recently within the last 7 to 5 years gone through an extensive rebuild and the latter just got new “antique” vehicles this past year (the same models used at KMAA).

Certainly hope that’s not the case.

Mamba holds a lot more significance to that park though than Slingshot did to KI.  I realize anything is possible but I can't see it happening as it, Prowler, and Patriot are the best coasters in the park.  With the lack of love they give WOF I'm surprised they are even painting it especially a different color scheme.  It is also a workhorse unlike say Ka or Nighthawk.

I am not saying it is the case and let's hope SIX never gets to this point, but the problem that is often the case is that you get a bean counter that simply looks at the dollars and cents and takes all emotion out of the decision.  They say eliminate the ride with the highest O&M cost without taking other factors into consideration and that is how a popular ride that draws people gets eliminated.

They just need to stop. What are they going to do, remove every enterprise rides across the entire chain? Also, what is wrong with mamba? Steel Force and Wild thing are the same model are they not? I can't see where mamba would be in any worse condition than the other two. Hopefully they hold off and any more removals. I love how they keep wanting to brag about their big investment in the parks over the next two years but then keep stripping parks of rides. It's like we'll give you a new ride but you get to lose 2-3 rides in exchange

At this point, I simply do not trust anything about this new company. Rumors seem to be coming true bit by bit and with more coming down the pipeline, they seem to have zero problems closing rides and giving absolutely no notice. All I can say is if a rumor comes about and seems strongly supported, better to be safe than sorry and go ride whatever ride is slated to come down next.

All of this is just ugly.

Calm down everyone. As I had titled this thread, these are just rumors.

I understand it's just rumors but it's a bit hard to turn down the emotions when most all the removal rumors have been proven to be true this far. Calm down, it's just a rumor that ka is going to close with no prior notice or final rides. Calm down it's just a rumor that the last Intamin bobsled is going to close with no chance at final rides. Calm down that Carowinds is losing 3 rides with no prior notice. I'm just saying that I have never put much stock in rumors but when they all start being proven as true, the possibility of ride removals at WoF can seem very real to alot of people

I can't remember...did Kentucky Kingdom give notice for final rides for T3?  If my thinking is correct, they did not.  But the ride didn't operate in 2023 , also trusting my shaky memory:)

It's sad when any ride closes, because someone out there loved it. But, if the new, new, new, new Six Flags (under CF leadership) does the right thing , they will give notice. But they are likely not able to do this at a park level.

Project Accelerate was announced at the third quarter earnings call, which is the first for the combined company. In this timeline, they are moving fast to retire costly assets on a park by park basis. In some cases, local parks may not even know what the plan is for ride removals.

In some cases, these removals are a complete disaster ( removal of Kings Mills Auto Livery Stable, Les Taxis, Flying Eagles for Junkyard Coaster) and others, they make sense ( SOB for Banshee). Let's hope you get progress made in the parks is net positive instead of net negative.

Since these seem to be driven by costs and non local people, could The Beast be in danger?  It's probably one of the most expensive rides to operate and maintain at KI, even with the cuts in ride staffing over these last two seasons.

I have no doubt people would riot in the streets if that happened

If The Beast gets removed, Kings Island may never get season passholders ever again. Removing The Beast would be like getting rid of Fury 325 or Steel Vengeance. From a business standpoint, removing The Beast would never be acceptable in Six Flags terms.

The point being made is when bean counters look at strictly cost and disassociate all other factors (that happens all too often in businesses in cost cutting modes), then decisions that are unpopular to the public happen.

But you do realize as a steel coaster that Fury will be removed at some point...same with KI steel coasters...

Yes, but Fury and Steel Vengeance still has lots of life left in them. I know at some point, all rides will have to die, but I was saying if they closed it now, everyone would be Furyous. I also understand that The Beast is very expensive to run and maintenance is high, but in my opinion, there is still more life in The Beast. That is why I believe that everyone would be mad if The Beast got removed.

Given the amount of daily work going into Steel Vengeance I would say Fury has a much longer life left than Steel Vengeance.  Especially if the bean-counters have their way...

That is the "advantage" of a wooden over a steel coaster is that with proper care, the wooden coaster can last a lot longer and The Beast should be around longer than any of our current steel coasters.  Theoretically forever LOL, but at some point the O&M costs may start to get too high and corporate makes the decision to remove...or RMC it LOL

It is sad though when bean counters start making cost-cutting measures just for the sake of cost-cutting without considering the impacts on a long-term basis.

Kinda my point.  If decisions are out of park's local control but based by some one in Charlotte based on a spreadsheet, anything can happen.  Money comes before sentiment and people away from the sentiment are concerned about short term.  If they removed The Beast, I would venture their pass sales would decline significantly. But then again, Vortex was beloved if not for the ride itself but definitely for the sentiment, a local decision was made after a rough ride, and apparently attendance has only increased.

I don't think The Beast will be removed :)
