BryanJay Posted March 10 Posted March 10 It is really funny to me how this isn’t like a charity thing and they’re just pocketing the money (as they’re allowed to do) I am curious (and scared frankly because I want something that’s within my budget) how much some of this stuff goes for. I’d actually imagine some of the smaller items would go less than the larger set pieces, but there’s no way of knowing. Quote
johnjniehaus Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I am also curious how much it's going to go for. I no longer live in the area but I'm wondering if I could arrange with the park for a friend to pick something up for me provided I win? Quote
Losantiville Mining Co. Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I'm seeing prices ranging from $10-$50 depending on the lot. There are lot items that are the size of medium picture frames all the way up to lot items that are 6+ feet tall. Each lot from the portrait gallery includes the tall black box that held the frame, scrim, background, and the gold detail above it all. Some of the items looks like they could be really nice for a community/school theater to have in their prop catalog, but I think the final costs might be a little prohibitive. Interestingly enough there are some items missing like the bed and the final Boocifer archway. The skeletons from the two dark rooms are also all missing. Those might be too large for the auction or could be finding a new home elsewhere. I still think that this would've been a good opportunity to give Cedar Point a quick and cheap dark ride until they work up the funds for an original concept. The park might do a charity event for Phantom Theater's first riders, so I'm not very pressed that they might be using the BBoBH auction to help pay off some corporate debt. If I could find a spot I'd probably go for one of the flat signs to hang on a wall. What this auction will almost definitely do is soothe all of the naysayers who keep commenting about how PT:ON will "just be a reskin of BBoBH" after that was a reskin of SDatHC. Maybe it'll more so be proof against them, but I digress. Quote
TheCrypt Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Am I the only one who looked at those pictures and thought they look kind of... sad? It's old news that the ride wasn't exactly a marvel, but seeing those cutouts and signs out of context really just illuminates for me the depth and quality of attraction that's been missing. I looked through the lots and was trying to find something that I'd maybe be interested in vying for, but it's really sticking with me that there's really nothing I find that I have to have. (Obviously, I'm glad there are people who are really into this. I just don't have the same emotional bond to the ride and that's what is clear to me now.) Quote
Losantiville Mining Co. Posted March 10 Posted March 10 They look sad, but it's mostly because they're not in context. The lack of contextual lighting mixed with the cutout nature of the props (and the setting of each photo) are what kill the vibe. Smoke and mirrors do a lot of heavy lifting for dark rides. I'm glad the park is getting what looks to be a much higher quality attraction in PT:ON! I think SDatHC accomplished what it was going for in being a much cheaper alternative to anything at Universal or Disney. Paramount couldn't/didn't want to spend all of that money on an experience they couldn't easily replicate at their other parks so they went with an expanded off-the-shelf option. Boo Blasters also accomplished what it needed to with how it de-branded an IP attraction in the same year as a major area reskin. Quote

I doubt very seriously they are going to do a first ride event, I was so hoping they would but at this point I think something like that would’ve already been announced which is a shame because I really enjoyed the Mystic Timbers auction and had a lot of fun at that event Quote

I believe the Siren's Curse charity event was announced about 20 days in advance, so even if Phantom opens at the start of the season we're still a week or two from hitting that. But I'm also still hopeful because that sounds like a fun event to attend. 1 Quote
Hawaiian Coasters 325 Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I don't remember the last time KI did a first rider auction on a ride that wasn't a major coaster. I'm sure they'll do a media day though (if it opens on opening day then probably the Thursday morning before) but it would just be select invited people. Quote

This ride seems like it would be a really good candidate for one though. With all of the hype and anticipation surrounding it I think KI could get some good participation. There's still hope that PT:ON will be open for Opening Day, but I also still have my doubts based on what I've seen from Six Flags in recent years. Quote

OwenFromTheRacer Posted March 18 Posted March 18 The bid for the score board is already up to $515, I assumed it would be one of the highest bid items. Quote
johnjniehaus Posted March 18 Posted March 18 I'm honestly surprised how much some of this stuff is already up to Quote
OwenFromTheRacer Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Me too, I wonder how much some stuff will be on the last day. Some items still don't have a bid. Quote
beastfan11 Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Scoreboard is at $2k. Somebody must’ve been a real Master Blaster… 1 Quote
BryanJay Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Pirate Crypt is currently at $90,000. There’s no way I’m going to be able to afford anything from this. (I am assuming it’s a glitch or mistype on someone’s end, but you truly never know) Update: They switched it back but that would’ve been really funny. 2 Quote

Losantiville Mining Co. Posted March 19 Posted March 19 There was a glitch that did that to a few items earlier in the day. One of the knights allegedly rose to $10k before getting put back down to the actual top bid price. I certainly don't think any of these items will go for above $10,000 — though some of them might have an even lower bid cap than that. We looked through some of the items around 10pm and the difference in prices was interesting to see. I wonder if there are any other items that also have old SDatHC props hidden under them besides the two ghosts from the beginning of the ride. Quote
johnjniehaus Posted March 19 Posted March 19 The bidding has seemed to calm down but yeah I'm kinda at the point I can't justify spending over $250 for any of that stuff. It's cool to have a piece of park history but if I'm going to spend a lot of money, it better be for a ride I REALLY like and boo Blasters was a ride that I thought was just ok Quote
OwenFromTheRacer Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Does anyone have pictures or video of the ghosts that were in the queue of Boo Blasters? These cutouts were later moved into the cemetery at the beginning of the ride. I'd love to see a video of them in the queue again. Quote

I’m sure somewhere it’s on YouTube if you look at old ride povs and park visits, I can’t find a picture anywhere I’ve looked everywhere, theirs no boo blasters construction photos I can find anywhere either, surely somewhere a picture of them in the queue is available, their isn’t too many photos of the queue, especially back then when smart phone cameras sucked Quote

OwenFromTheRacer Posted Sunday at 04:53 AM Posted Sunday at 04:53 AM Perfect thank you, I'm sure many have noticed that these ghosts look very different and the auction site reveals that the they are made more of a plywood. I wonder if Kings Island themselves made these figures and not Sally Quote
MaestroJr Posted Sunday at 04:55 AM Posted Sunday at 04:55 AM The biggest mistake of boo blasters is muting of the blasters, does anyone know why they were muted, that was a small but hugely important effect ruined 1 Quote

I remember that way back when it was Scooby-Doo and then the early days of Boo Blasters. But I can see where you're coming from with the effect being ruined. Maybe if the sound effect was a little quieter maybe it would have stayed throughout the entire duration of Boo Blasters. Side note I wonder why the old Scooby-Doo/Boo Blaster Guns weren't included in the auction? 🤔 Quote

Losantiville Mining Co. Posted Monday at 01:57 AM Posted Monday at 01:57 AM I suspect some of the blaster effects were turned off to cut down on the maintenance and make it one less thing to fix on each blaster. The ride at Kings Dominion still has the sound effects and has laser pointers to show where you're aiming. Kings Island probably didn't ever get the lasers because how how the ride cars were set up (nobody wants a laser pointed at them from another ride vehicle). 19 hours ago, kingsislandfan1972 said: Side note I wonder why the old Scooby-Doo/Boo Blaster Guns weren't included in the auction? 🤔 Maybe they're being given to those folks who won the giveaway (I keep reading that they only ever received one email about it and nothing else after the old social media team left.) More likely, I think they might be used as spare parts for the other Boo Blasters. Quote
