Racer being dismantled?

^Oh, its happened. Probably the best example is Phantom's Revenge (Steel Phantom) at Kennywood. In 2000, it had its four loops removed and the total length of the track increased a couple hundred feet. So it could happen to The Beast but I don't see them doing it due to the cost, but who knows, I always felt that the train has too much speed left coming into the station after the second hill and helices. They could add a couple air time hills or something after the helix but like I said before, really really unlikely.

VERY few track sections are left from the Arrow section of Phantom's Revenge. It's mainly just the hill, the rest is the Morgan design.

They really didn't do what we're talking about. They more or less utilized track pieces to get an entire new ride. Adding to the ride itself is a whole different story.

^Yea, I see what you mean. Steel Phantom was more overhauled then just added to. I still think they could do it with Beast although like I said before I don't think they will. They could add after the second hill and helix without having to recalculate much forces, just the added track section. But still a very unlikely senario whats more likely is when Beast gets alot older then it is now like 20 years from now they might do something like what they did to Thunderbolt at Kennywood, where essentially they do a major reworking of the existing coaster and for all purposes turn it into a new coaster. They might do this to say that the legendary Beast still exists but to have it updated to be more modern and thrilling.

only time will tell. What is the oldest operating wooden coaster in the world? Is it one of the wooden coaster's at Kennywood? But Like I have said before, a wooden coaster is rebulit many times thru out it's lifetime. I'm sure they are not many if any at all orgianal wood on The Beast or Racer.

I think you may be surprized how much of the wood is still original. I can't find the picture but I know there was one a couple years back that showed the moss that is growing on the wood from when there used to be a pond by Beast's lift hill. But agree with you that especially in the places where strong forces occur all the wood will have been replaced sometime or another.

Yeah I see what your saying. I guess some of the wood could be original. Some of the supports and such.

Everyone says that the only time these will be removed, is when they are too costly too maintain. HELLO, The last time I checked, the majority of the coaster was still made of wood, which is quite cheap. The point in time they quit maintaining the coaster due to cost of lumber, will be the same point in time, they quit building houses out of wood. Like that is gonna happen anytime soon. What are they gonna build stuff out of concrete? Won't that be nice, by new house and its nice gray color, and rough exterior. I guess the furniture in it will have to be concrete and plastic, since wood will be too expensive..............See the point, the wood coasters aren't going anywhere, and are relatively cheap to maintain in terms of their structure.

The Racer is not a coaster classic because it had individual ratcheting restraints. Not to mention it received seat belts recently. However, I heard a while back that the status of an ACE coaster classic was changed to not include the seatbelt stipulation since it is a safety issue. The Beastie, I believe is a coaster classic because it still has the old buzz bars.

As for the `Tiques, I have a feeling they may be coming back next seaon, possibly with new engines and definantly a new theme to fit in with the area in which they would be installed (Nick).

The Racer is a ACE coaster. Whether or not you want to believe it is.

not a doomsday post, but Racer and Beast are made of biodegradable / organic material... wood. Someday they will come out. The Racer is afterall 33 years old, though it may outlast The Beast because it is built on level ground.... plus the area around The Beast is covered with trees making it susceptible to moss and other "rotting" activities.

Some day the maintenance will become as such that replacement is a necessary option over that of constant repair. In 1984 The Bat was the star attraction but had to be removed because maintenance was eating them alive..... and retention was not financially feasible no matter how many enthusiasts attended or protested..... and somehow the park survived. They did it before, they'll do it again.

rolleyes.gif Hmm, and how old is the world's oldest coaster? Racer isn't going anywhere nor is Beast. If they do rot out, PKI would go in and over time replace the rotted pieces just as they do the track. Wooden coasters are built to last unlike their steel cousins that end up being replaced by 10 years 7 out of 10 times.

Just saying....The Racer kills you. There is something wrong with the lap bar, it crushes me on the third hill. So what if it is a classic. King Cobra was the first of its kind, and it was torn down.

I've never had a problem with the lap bar. Although I am used to getting the bar as tight as I can(a fear of coming out).

Actually, I have seen the lap bar coming down more than once. That happens to my daughter a lot. She is only 8 years old though. I can see if someone really has a loose lap bar, it will come down rather hard.
