I tried searching for this in a forum but I couldn't find it so don't bite my head off if this has already been said.

I just got back from PKI and stayed at the Kings Island Resort and the bus driver in the morning said that PKI is up for sale and that Cedar Point's company was looking to buy it. Has anyone else heard this?

Viacom had their parks on the market awhile ago but decided not to sell them. There were rumors that Cedar Fair was looking at the park but that was never confirmed. The chain was never on the market long enough for potential buyers to make claims, I think if Viacom wants to seel their parks they will want to sell the chain, not just each park individually.

I had to dig pretty deep to find some of the old threads on this topic, so don't feel bad for not finding anything. The first thread talks about when Viacom was first considering the sale of the parks:

However, instead of selling profitable assets, Viacom has now decided to split the company into two publicly traded parts--a high growth unit, and an income unit (which will contain the parks). Here are some threads on that topic:

I hope someone from the park sees your post about the bus driver yapping to customers about things he clearly knows nothing about and complains to the hotel. I'd bet you $10 that guy (the bus driver) couldn't name either Viacom or Cedar Fair as the corporate parents of the respective parks he was claiming to have inside information on! biggrin.gif

^ Yea. I was reading a topic that's down now, that was stated in 2004. I remeber clearly, EVERYONE kept saying: "The Vortex ISN'T SINKING AND Cedar Fair ISN'T BUYING KI!" If they were wrong about the second one, then, maybe, sort of, posibly, UH OH. :o

What is *P*KI?

*P* is going...going...going...and almost gone. There is only one sign and a theater of it left at this point...and both those will be P-less before the beginning of next season, in all probability. . . .

At Carowinds, the former Paramount Theater is now The Carowinds Theater. Where the Paramount mountain was in the crest above the name, they merely painted a comedy/tragedy set of masks. It's pretty obvious if you knew what was there before, but otherwise not. The CBS Cafe is also no longer such there, though the posters for CBS shows were still inside three weeks ago.

I would be surprised if no major renaming happens for the 2008 season. Only time will tell, but lets enjoy the rest of what the 2007 season has to offer before we guess what 2008 may or may not bring.

I know. The last Time I went to KI with my cousins was in 2003. I called them the other day and they had no clue that PKI was KI. They also had no Idea GL was closed.

Yes.

I'm pretty sure that Cedar Fair wouldnt buy PKI.

How sure? ;)

Viacom had their parks on the market awhile ago but decided not to sell them.

Really?

The Lemon Chill guy comes to PKI!

You can take that to the bank!

Obviously he does!

For those of you who haven't been paying attention to things for the past two years, Viacom split into CBS and Viacom, CBS got Paramount Parks, CBS divested Paramount Parks, Cedar Fair purchased Paramount Parks.

Closing...
