King Cobra Leaving Park

Featured Replies

So I was turing right from Kings Mill to Kings Island drive today and my mom commented that there was lots of pieces of a roller coaster on a truck, now I was driving so I could only glance back quickly, but I am like 90% sure that I saw remains of the King Cobra leaving the park. Anybody else got confirmation.

I read on Geaugaguide.com, somebody posted that it had at date with the scrapyard in December. I read this while reading up on X-Flight.

***DISCLAIMER***The statement above is just what some guy said on geaugaguide.com. I have no evidence what so ever to back that statement up. I have no idea who they guy was. Just what he/she said.

Perhaps it is headed to Geauga Lake. KI gets a used coaster, Geauga Lake gets one in return.

How sad if this is true-now both demon and cobra are laid to rest.

This is interesting.

Scrap metal is worth quite a bit-just hate to see such a beloved piece of history take that route though.

Actually from what I understand that low grade steel that they used for it is worthlesss now.

Then again, it wouldn't be too unreasonable to think that CF would find any means it can to unload it.

Yeah seriously, see ya Cobra! Now it can be melted down and used for something useful, instead of sitting in a bunch of weeds still becoming a hot topic on PKI fanboy sites.

I think that they should auction it on on PKIBay. I know i would love to have a piece of the old King Cobra track right here in my room. You know when you really think about it, it is kind of sad (If it really is leaving) that something as historic as the worlds first stand up coaster is leaving us. Goodbye King Cobra.

Scrap metal is actually worth next to nothing.

The siding off my garage gave me a nice chunk of change-plus the hospital I work at just tore down their parking garage and sent the metal to Indiana since it was worth more there than here in Ohio. Hmmmm

Businesses are daily making millions and millions of dollars recycling that supposedly worth next to nothing scrap metal. Actually, metal prices right now are near all time highs, largely due to the intense development now going on in China. Copper, in particular, is disappearing left and right, from downspouts to wires supporting working towers at radio stations!

Not sure if I'm correct, but I have heard somewhere that King Kobra was not the first stand-up coaster. Something about one was built before it over seas. Anyone heard this?

This is positive on two fronts.

#1- If KC was really not worth anything to sell, it is finally getting a "dignified" death.

#2- this means that CF may actually be cleaning up clutter that has spansed the outer borders of the park. Let's face it- a scrap yard of steel from a defunt coaster that sits in the weeds for over 4 years is a bit sad.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this... but could CF be clearing the land for something new? Just wondering. -Hauntguy

Maybe, but then again maybe not. Very good observation.

Take this for what it's worth, but the tram driver a year ago told me that his boss told him that they planned on putting a new campgroup behind SOB. I know it's not a credible source, but it does make a degree of sense.

That would be a good location, since the new Great Wolf road now connect to the back road into Kings Mills so there is easy access to that land now.

Well Cedar Fair does have an affinity for CampGrounds. Anyone ever been to LightHouse point. Love the cabins on the lake. Very nice to spend a weekend there with friends or family in a comfy cabin on the lake next door to Americas RollerCoast.

^I have not, but have considered it in the past. I think there's also BBQ grills at your disposal, if I'm not mistaken.

Thats true....plus Great Wolf even had a sign for the Kings Island Campground on the bottom of their new sign by the traffic light, and they left part of the old campground in-tact behind the resort. However, it magically went away when they cut back the trees to reveal the new sign....Hmmmm

Yea. That is very true. There was an old run down trailer park in my town(a real eyesore too). The guy who owned it eventually shut it down. One day we came by and all the alluminum off the trailers were gone. Later on, the trailers we victims of "Arson." I'll just throw in the fact that the guy didn't want to pay for the removal of the trailers...

So, back to what's going on. Are they building a new campground, who knows. I never stayed at the campground, but I know people who did and enjoyed it. I think it would complement the new GWL. Or, maybe it would just hurt business of the GWL...I really don't know.

GWL will be kinda busy during the offseason, but I think once KI opens up, then it will dwindle a little.

But if GWL can make a deal with KI and build a campground there, that would be a great business investment.

King Cobra was the first standup coaster to be built in the United States.

Actually it was the First Stand-up Looping Coaster in North America.

I would almost bet that is where the campground is going. It's a very viable option.
