Overnight in the Park

My wife and I were at KI until close a few nights ago and we wondered just how does the staff make sure everyone is out of such a big park when they close? I don't have any idea how the park is run or maintained so some insight from people that have worked there would be cool. What is entailed in wrangling all the stragglers out?

We were imagining how one might hide themselves to stay in the park overnight. **Let me stress that I have NO interest in what I'm about to talk about, or even think it's possible. It's sort of like thinking about what type of ingenious way you would try to sneak into a bank vault at night to steal the ancient diamond collection...or maybe I just watch too many heist movies **

It seems like it would be easy to sneak a tiny sleeping bag in a backpack, and then around 10:05 finding a dark spot to hide in until the place clears out. Maybe somewhere near the entrance to Adventure Express since that has several trees. Or maybe hopping a fence in the Flight Deck cue since that is a bit secluded.

I can't possibly be the first person to think about something like this. What does KI do to find people trying to stay after hours? Have there been many attempts? Are there any stories or rumors of someone actually pulling it off?

I'd love to hear about how terrible my plan is and how fast I would get kicked out/banned from the park from those that actually help run the park.

And maybe for fun, what would some of you think would be a better plan for hiding? I'm thinking if you were a Secret Agent/Ninja level badass. Not an actual plan to try out (which would be stupid).

Don't worry, I know exactly what you mean, I've thought of it a few times. Well if I was already bad/stupid enough to actually stay the night in the park, I'd be dumb/bad enough to go in a restricted area. I'd probably hide out by WWC and the log flume. Than after a few hours come out and do something. But employees are there all night just driving around and doing stuff so you would get caught if you were walking around. Anyone remember in February or March when people snuck into Carowinds and climbed on Intimidators track and sat on the catwalks of the trims and took photos?

Wouldn't doubt if people have done it in the past. I can imagine the penalties for getting caught would not be fun at all.

After reading The Beast by R.l. Stinen when I was a kid I wanted to sneak in and spend the night. But I have worked overnight at KI a few times

You'd have to find a really good hiding place that is easially accessable. A few of the places that immediately come to mind would be the Flight Deck queue, the woods near White Water Canyon, the buildings along the train route, and any indoor resturant with several back rooms. You'd also probably want a backpack full of stuff-flashlights, water bottles, dark clothing, sleeping bags, and other items of the sort, depending on what you're planning to do. And then, you'd have to find a way to slip into the park once it opens. But, if done right, it may actually work.

But this is a bad, bad, bad, bad idea and should NEVER EVER be attempted.

Kings Island obviously has it's own predator drone and hordes of attack dogs that prowl the grounds after hours.

It would be interesting to see the reaction of whoever opened the next day... I would probably pass out if I found someone in a back room.

I believe the appropriate charge would be breaking and entering...if breaking was involved, otherwise some sort of burglary charge...and it would most likely be prosecuted to the nth degree...a theft of services charge would also be appropriate, along with trespassing...oh, the fun a prosecutor could have with this. Not at all a good idea...

Oh I absolutely agree... I researched all of the possible charges and consequences WELL right after GL closed... which is why I never got the in-park pics I wanted. Definitely not wise by any stretch of the imagination, and incredibly expensive after its all said and done.

Still have not heard anyone say how the park is checked at night? I am assuming there is overnight security walking/ridding around the park?

I know there are Park Service employees in the park every night, or morning power washing areas of the park. I'd also imagine there is security staffed for after hours

I would imagine that there is ALWAYS a security presence at KI, 365/24/7. I know that there is always a security presence at Coney. If you recall, back in the spring this year, three people were caught trespassing on Coney`s property in the overnight hours. They were caught and charged with trespassing on Coney property. I would imagine that things are very similar at KI.

Yeah, at night the park is filled with employees. Be it security, maintenance, or cleaners. Even if you COULD sneak in for the night, I've heard some pretty creepy stories about the woods surrounding WWC to make me want to stay away.

See now, to me that would be a reason to stay the night and see what happens and investigate, but I am just crazy like that!

its actually really fun and relaxing sleeing in the park. I slept in the field right by DB last year for an overnight camporee thing. But, downside is they keep the music BLARING LOUD!! until around 2 or 2:30 AM.

I believe that typically security walks around the park near closing to start escorting folks towards the exit. I would imagine they probably do 2 or 3 "passes" through the park to ensure everybody is out.

There really isn't anything to do in the park, so it would be a total waste IMO. Remember also that some people were prosecuted for sneaking in and taking pictures of Diamondback's construction area during the offseason as well.

Im sure they have cameras and motion detectors as well as guard dogs near by.Im also sure the haunted souls that are lurking after hours might be happy to eat a few unlucky over nighters.

If there were motion sensors animals that walk the park at night would set them off. There is a good topic. "What reports of animals have been seen in the park." I am sure dear might make their way into the park at night?

Motion Sensors somehow don't detect some animals like dogs. Like motion sensors in a house. The family pets do not set them off.

It depends on how they are set. Some can be set off by small rats, much less dogs.

I could see where they would leave piles in the park everywhere! More trouble than they are worth.
