  1. I just wanted to add some of my own sarcasm and absurdity to this thread. I feel better now...

  2. I was at KI this past weekend and while i was waiting to get on the the train I heard someone mention the SOB. Then I saw train car 208 attached to train car 214. The only explanation for this is that the number 2 stands for the 2nd Beast (SOB) and the 08 and 14 could only mean that we will find out about the SOB on August 14th!

  5. You actually have that backwards. The slide was originally in Coney (as can be seen in the Partridge Family & Brady Bunch episodes), then was shortened and moved to HB. Being born in '72, I grew up with HB Land. I loved all the things previously mentioned, but one my favorites hasn't been brought up yet. I absolutely loved the snail that sat outside the original Enchanted Voyage. It would blink, move it's head & neck, and I always used to say along with it, "Have a happy day!" My uncle did characters at the park back in the early days, and my mom has a picture of me with Scooby, and inside the costume is my uncle. He also played a few of the Banana Splits characters. I loved all the characters, but Scooby, Captain Caveman and Hong Kong Phooey had a slight edge over all the others.

  6. I beg to differ, I find Top Gun/Flight Deck to be short, but packs a punch. It is also a good family ride that I would bet will outlive Son of Beast.

  7. Here are a few more photos of HB Land. My earliest memories are much like those already mentioned. I loved riding the Smurf ride and the witches cauldron. The Flintstones bumper cars were well themed and a great ride as well! Enjoy these pics

  8. A quick review for the 15 most recent people to sign up for an account here (and anyone who comes after), according to my own opinions on the topics and the terms of use for this site: You have to have to be able to name a source if you claim inside information or claim to know the future plans of a publicly traded company... But even then, be aware that ride workers, concession workers, and your friend's friends probably don't know anything about the multi-million dollar plans for the park / company. Only a select few people are actually aware of what choices the company has yet to announce, and those select view value their jobs and positions of prestige enough to not say more than they should. You can't have a post with just one word - it adds nothing to the discussion. The "Edit" button in the lower right-hand corner of your post allows you to go back and add any new comments you think of, which is why "double posting" isn't supposed to happen. Just click edit, add what you need to, and then move on! Bolding things unnecessarily, leaving the caps lock on, avoiding capitalization and punctuation, etc. are not ways to present your opinions or to gain respect. It's against the terms of use that we all agreed to when we signed up to "shout," which, electronically, means obnoxious bolding or capitalization. If you read it on the park's Facebook or heard it from a friend of a friend whose dad built Diamondback, it's best to not repeat it here, because it's probably not true and it only serves to get everyone worked up. Same goes for hearing it from "the suits" or through an electronic communication with the park that you refuse to post here. No decision has been made concerning the fate of Son of Beast, unless you believe one has that they're not ready to share. Either way, cool it?! Just trying to make my experience and yours better! Together we can have an informed community with respect and knowledge-backed opinions aplenty!

  9. I have been to Soak City 3 times so far this year. There have been a couple of things that have sort of disappointed me with the expansion. 1. Rocks/Pebbles- I have noticed rocks and pebbles everywhere throughout the paths. I walk with no shoes on through the water park and can't help but step on at least 2-3 pebbles in the middle of the paths. 2. "Action River"- Now I will preface this with I like getting "soaked" in the water park. Heck that is usually the point of going to the water park. But I can't help but being upset with the way they have set up the new Lazy/Action river. The zero depth entry is nice but after that the first "action" part has you getting spray/blasted/shot in the face with jets and water guns from little kids on the side. THEN you get shot and if you are "lucky" get a full bucket of water dumped on you from above when you go under the bridge... You can avoid most of the other water spouts but not the aforementioned water effects. Now I know I sound grumpy but to me the lazy river was the only place in Kings Island/Soak City where you could get in the water and relax without having to fight waves or slide down anything. You could just sit there and float. These new water attractions really take that away. mainly just the two "human controlled" water areas. Now there is no where to relax in water at SC. 3. New wave pool- Now I do not know if the new wave pool is heated. But it sure seems like it. Also the major flaw with this wave pool is the fact that they allow water tubes in the pool. Not only is it annoying, it is flat out dangerous because the tubes are amassed where the waves are crashing and if you don't have one well you better grab onto someone's tube otherwise you will end up under someone or getting hit in the head while trying to swim. I really could see someone dying drowning from these tubes just purely from being over taken by a group of 6 people interlocking their arms. In the new wave pool it seems that if you want to be in the ,as KI touts "more aggressive waves", you will need a tube to enjoy it. 4. $12-$15 lockers, w/ no refund (oh and exact change)...- That is just outrageous. Especially for a park that isn't even known for their water section. HW's lockers are $10 with a $5 refund... Yes I know they are smaller but still you can buy two for $5 less than one at KI. I feel that they are taking advantage of you for having to use a locker in the waterpark. It is almost straight gouging and I don't know about you folks but I hate feeling like I am being taken advantage of... $15 is just too much for a locker IMO These are just some of my peeves about the new SC. I think that the paint jobs and new additions of the volleyball courts are actually pretty cool. But I still think that These are just my opinions. I want to know what you folks think. Are you disappointed with anything at SC?

  10. There is a good chance what is believed to be land clearing is just the summer dry season setting in. A similar claim was made a few seasons ago, and it was just a combination of vehicle traffic in the area & dry weather (brown grass). If there is land being cleared, we should also be able to see the equipment used to do the clearing.

  11. People leaving valuables out in the open is not KI's fault. No ,but one would argue that it is KI's fault for having high locker prices. A few things come to mind in these type of situations 1. Now that the guest now has had personal belongings taken from them at the park(whether its their fault or not) 99% percent of the time they will now share this experience when they're talking to a fellow friend about KI. Maybe this friend will now be turned off by going to KI because who wants to go to a park where thieves are? 2. Why would the guest not use a locker? Price? The Hassle? Sold Out? Unaware that KI has lockers? I'm sure theres lots of factors. One thing is for sure though, if KI offered 2 dollar all day lockers, do you know how much more people would actually spend the 2 dollars? How many more people would tell their friends about this amazing deal and no hassle and no worries about people busting open lockers? 3. Sad to say that people just don't care about other people. Most of the time a thief will find a bag and they will think "they're so stupid to leave this out here ,they deserve it"(just to show how sick minded these people are) and its the sad truth. I hope they catch these rats and put them in the slammer.

  12. DiamondBuckeye appears to already understand the ridiculousness of many members' posts around here and is being playfully sarcastic. 2 posts in, he already "gets it." Do you? ... And if people got banned for dumb comments, I know I'd be banned! Probably most of us would be...

  13. I have heard people gripe that, while Kings Island's kids area is great, that's almost all that's offered for kids. In other words, parents intent on giving their kids a full day of activity probably won't step out of Planet Snoopy. There are some fine attractions along Coney Mall, but even they are a step above the kid's rides in Planet Snoopy, and there's absolutely no rides for kids in Action Zone or Rivertown... Literally, none. Not saying they need a whole separate kids area, but why not a "haybaler" style scrambler inside a barn in Rivertown, or a bright kiddie coaster in Action Zone? Just thinkin'...

  15. I must be a hyper junky. I LIKE(d) THEM ALL. OK, I have not been to Fujiyama, yet. Magnum, Diamondback, Bizarro are all on my top 10 steel list. Also, I really really did like Son of Beast although the time has passed to save this woody. Sonny's Revenge, anyone? Not to be technical, Millennium Force was the first to open but second to be designed. Steel Dragon 2000 was the first to be designed. Due to extreme engineering requirements for Japan's building code (earthquakes), SD 2000 took longer to be built.

  16. Lowering the locker price will not stop thieves. If someone wants something bad enough, they will find a way to steal it.

  25. You'll want to ride their Crypt, too. It's a fantastic flat ride. Stop to watch a cycle before or after you ride, too, because it adds a whole new dimension to the experience. Even the rides that are similar take on very different forms at Kings Dominion. You'll likely trip over yourself finding the station for Flight of Fear, and the different lighting / sound combos will be noticeable. WindSeeker provides a completely different view than at Kings Island and is worth doing. Their Boo Blasters uses a different ride system that makes the experience in each room much more personal (each effect triggers just for you instead of being on a constant, 5-second loop). Don't miss Avalanche, tucked away behind Volcano. The wooden coasters will give you an experience that Kings Island's and Cedar Point's don't (not saying if that's good or bad). To get to Grizzly, you have to go through the Dinosaurs Alive entrance, so don't get confused and walk right past it. Their Drop Zone also claims to be the tallest gyro drop in the world. The tower itself is shorter than Kings Island's, but the brakes begin lower down on the tower so the actual "drop" portion is larger. The brakes catching the gondola so low to the ground also provides a really odd sensation when you're so used to Kings Island's. Their Backlot Stunt Coaster is in thematic disrepair. Absolutely zero effects work besides half of the splashdown - no flames, no helicopter, no sound effects, so music, no fog, nothing. Worth riding just to see how good we have it after last season's awesome little refurb (is our BLSC still doing well, by the way?). To reiterate: Rides that the two parks have in common have all been maintained and aged separately, so even identical clones provide crazy different experiences. If you're old enough to appreciate it, their Planet Snoopy and Kidzville areas are really worth strolling through just for a look. They have what must be the world's smallest swinging ship ride and an awesome, guiderail-less car ride where kids can literally drive around a little Peanuts town at will. Just something that's fun to see and different from anything I've seen elsewhere. They had a really awesome little walkthrough called the Treasure Cave, but it appeared to me in my trip earlier this year that it was closed for good - a real shame. Basically plan on riding everything. No reason to pick out five or six coasters when you'll have time for it all! And on that note, I can't imagine that you'd need Fast Lane, but I'd definitely wait until you're actually there to make any decisions about that... I don't doubt that a good amount of money is made on the park's end by patrons who buy the Fast Lane passes way ahead of time, then find 5 - 10 minute waits once they arrive at the park. Oops! I've never been to the park on an extremely busy day, but even in its first year I never waited more than 10 minutes for Intimidator. Volcano is the only really low capacity ride (so much so that even with Fast Lane, that one ride is limited to two times per person), so head there first. You shouldn't have a problem with anything else. Kings Dominion's food is still like Kings Island's was last year - you'll spend $7.00 for a plain, mediocre hamburger with no fries or drink. Add a dollar if you want cheese, another if you want a moist bacon circle, and four more if you'll take fries with that. After that experience, I had a bad taste in my mouth (literally) toward the park's food options. In The Grove (their Coney Mall) I noticed a sign for a $7.00 turkey sub combo at some little restaurant. It occurred to me that it would've been a little bit less of a rip-off, so maybe check that out. Locals would probably advise you to leave and get fast food nearby, just as many of us would've for Dominionites visiting our park in past years. While the park is always improving, it's not always been well-loved from an operations point of view. Many week days, even in the summer, rides run as few trains as possible. Intimidator often runs one. Two wouldn't necessarily help much, but there's a psychological aspect to sitting and waiting in an empty station while the train races through the course around you. Their Congo section, by the way, is easily the best themed area I've seen in any Cedar Fair park. Keep an eye out for Tomb Raider's film score playing there, movie props scattered around the area, and the film's Triangle of Light carved in many places... Enjoy your trip! Take pictures for us!

  32. I have seen the box. I was at the park earlier last week and saw a bunch of suits and asked then that exact question. They took me on a back lot tour and showed it to me. The box is in bad shape. Boards are missing. Many are warped. It does not look useable. I pestered the suits a bit. I kept asking if the box will be used again. Their final comment was: "No decision has been made. There is nothing else to talk about." BTW- I never asked about SoB. There was no reason to since the box is SBNO, SoB's status obviously has not changed.

  33. jcgoble I hope you are hungry the deluxe plan is a lot of food but it is good food. I will try to call you here in a bit to make some suggestions. first thing though 3 sit down meals a day is tough so I would recomend to do one /breakfast/Lunch at a decent sit down place either late breakfast or early lunch then reserve a signature restaurant for that evening. Signature eat up two credits so you would still use 3 credits for that day but used in two meals. The signature places will wow you and be so worth it Not saying do that everyday but if I did deluxe that would be how I would do most days.
