It's usually the wannabe "gangsters" that cause all the trouble. They think they're all bad because they can walk around with a flat billed hat and sag their pants. They also think it's cool to walk like an idiot with their arms out like they're about to hug a tree. I saw a group of them try to pick a fight with a 40 year old man, until they found out he was an ex Navy Seal.4 points

My mom had to pick something up around KI, so after that, my, her, and my sister went to KI. We arrived around 7:45, and the parking lot was pretty crowded. We walked into the park and headed to the Emporioum, because on here I heard they still sell leftover Crypt hats here. I was looking around, but couldn't find anything. We asked a worker, which was a little strange considering The Crypt doesn't exist. He actualy took us to an abandoned corner that had some Crypt hats. The tag said $12.99, ouch. But I heard on here also it was only $4 on clearence, so I went to the register to check. Turns out they were, and I bought one. Next up was our first ride of the day, Diamondback. The wait extended a bit out of the entrance, but there was only the first turnaround (or whatever you call it) and one other switchback open. I was expecting about a 20 minute wait. Operations were slow when I was in the beginning of the line, as I saw most of the time the train wouldn't dispatch until after the train ahead was on the break run. Anyway, operations got better throughout the line, and we got on in about 25 minutes. I got row 5, and it, as always, was a blast. They wanted to do Racer, so we headed there. The line was down the steps and just into the queue house, and looked only about 5 minutes. it was only about 5 minutes and we got on. I had a middle row, so it was kind of smooth. It was just a nice classic ride. They wanted to then do WindSeeker, while I wanted to get on Vortex. Sense they are next to each other, We just decided to split up and meet at the WindSeeker entrance, sense it was getting dark and I wanted a Windseeeker night ride. I then relaized I wanted to get my dad a late birthday present related to Flight of Fear. I went to the trailer thing putside of the X-Base were the guy from Emporioum suggested I go from my last visit. I looked all around, asked, and there was nothing FOF related. But, guess what. There are Crypt shirts in here. 3 different kinds, actually. They had a bit still in stock. So if you want a Crypt shirt, then you can get one in the trailer thing outside of the X-Base. But, when I saw a Crypt shirt, I couldn't resist. There was a sign outside saying all shirts $7, but the tag said something like $14. The lady there told us it was the $7 deal, and we took it. I checked my reciept and I leveled up to 2 star in FUN Perks! And, I wasn't going to carry my shirt on rides, so I just wore it over my Diamondback shirt. I then headed to Vortex. The line for Vortex only looked to be about 10 min. There was this crazy kid in front of me, and when I just take the slightest step, he says "Hey man, no cuttin"! I look at him like he's crazy. He says "I saw you! You cutted! No cuttin!" I was absolutely not cutting. Anyway, the line ended up being about 10 minutes. I wasn't able to pick my 5-1 seat, and ended up in 3-1. I was hoping for the best. To my surprise, it was great! Hardly any headbanging, add to the fact that it is almost dark out, and that is definetly a better than average Vortex ride. I met with my mom and sister Lucy, who I saw on WindSeeker when I exited. Anyways, they rode it again with me, and it was only a 1 cycle wait. The park was pretty dark, and I just love the WindSeeker lights. This was also my first real WindSeeker night ride. (I had one were the lights turned on in the middle of the ride but it wasn't very dark out) It was a great ride, and I just love seeing the park at night. Next up was a famous Beat night ride. My mom, unfortunately chickened out. She has only rode it once recently, and thought it would be too scary if she didn't know which way it was going and it was to dark to see. Anyway,me and my sister got there at about 9:45, and the ride was already closed for fireworks. Some people thought this meant it was closed for the night and left the line. An employee came down to clarify it is just closed for the fireworks and will reopen for people still in line after maintence has gave us the all clear. We waited a little bit and then the fireworks started. There was one firework, then none. About 15 seconds later, half the people in The Beast line started cheering for the fireworks "end", which cracked me up. About 20 seconds after the first firework, some more went off, and the show started. It was a really nice fireworks show. About 5 minutes after the fireworkd, The Beast started running again. The wait was about 20 minutes, after the reopening. Me and my sister boarded the back row of a car, becuase somebody offered it to us, and we took off. There is nothing better at KI than a Beast night ride. The ride, was, well, amazing. Going through the woods in the pitch black was great, and the double helix was amazing, as it seemed I was going at around 80 M.P.H. . I think The Beast at night also seems faster. Anyway, it was 10:30, and the park of course was closed. We headed to the entrance. Tower Drinks had workers cleaning up. I asked if I could just have a cup of ice water, because I was really thirsty, but no, they said no. We then walked out to our cars and drove home. Overall, a great evening at KI, even if we only rode 5 rides, they were all great. A couple of notes: *Delirium is still down. Not sure when it will be fixed. *The park is just great walking through at night. I just love the atmosphere. *Don't bother looking for FOF stuff at the park. They don't have it. Thanks for reading!3 points

My first ride on DB was in June 2010. It was my third visit to KI that year after not having been there since I was a kid in the mid-90s. I got basically a walk-on during ERT, and I remember being nervous going up the lift hill and then screaming all the way down the first drop—but after that, I loved the ride so much that I immediately rode again, this time without screaming. I've been hooked on coasters ever since.3 points

It's too bad history repeated itself as opposed to being learned from. Imagine where KI would be today.....3 points

Ask me what? I wouldn't take offense to people questioning you Jr for Birdy, or any other member who recounts an experience at the park. That's the nature of the internet, especially forums about the amusement industry. People are naturally skeptical here...and they should be. Especially with all the idiots who popped up here as trolls over the past few months. Just be prepared that if you're going to claim something, you'll be facing criticism and speculation.3 points

I spent portions of the last two days in Soak City. A few impressions and thoughts: 1) Love the big waves in the new wave pool. My first day I thought the tubes were a serious problem. Not as bad today, and I truly did see a few times where guest were in peril, although nowhere near drowning. Lots of feet to the head and face. I thought about the pros and cons of this situation long and hard and really can't think of a great solution. Volleyball courts and people using them. Good to see. 2) Love the new paint, everything looks sharp, clean and new. 3) New entrance. Nice 4) Band by the bar. Again, nice touch. 5) New path. Greatly needed and a great addition to the park, but WHY in God's creation did they WALL OFF THE OLD PATH? Couldn't they have just kept both paths intact? To me this was a boneheaded move. 6) Lazy river = action river. I see both sides of this argument and truly see the merits of both. I personally thought the old lazy river was nice, but needed a few more OPPORTUNITIES like the waterfall to get wet. The mandatory beating that you take in many sections is totally obnoxious though. Clearly a second river would have been a much better solution. As it is, I don't think any particular need is met. (ie. Not enough action or wetness for one crowd and very difficult to avoid it for the "lazy" crowd.) Many of the new water effects are already broken or have been disabled by the park, either way it reflects poorly on what was billed as a brand new attraction. Also, I believe that the original entrance should have been retained IN ADDITION TO the new one, as well as the original path as previously mentioned. Another boneheaded move in my opinion. 7) Changing rooms. I can't vouch for the womens, but I have an opinion on the Men's. The main changing room doesn't really have any private changing area. You have benches in a giant room and if you use that area people look at you like you are a pervert for being naked there. Other options are shower stalls and the most popular option of people changing in a toilet stall. I have two problems with this: 1) I don't want to change on a wet floor in front of a toilet in a men's room for what I hope are obvious reasons. 2) I actually needed to use a toilet on Sunday, but was unable to because the stalls were full of people changing their clothes instead of using the toilet. The changing stalls connected to the bathrooms by the new lockers closest to the new wave pool..... they are a fenced in, empty room with a FILTHY, STAINED concrete floor. PLEASE pressure wash this area! Would it be difficult or unreasonable to think there might be a bench or chair in that area? 8) Stairs going up the Pineapple Pipeline are extremely slippery and are desperately in need of a new coat of slip free surface. They appear to have some mildew on them obviously due to the proximity of the nearby trees which contributes/causes the problem.3 points

Coasterfanatic and I used our VIP passes that we won on twitter over the 4th of July. We sat on the front row of Diamondback for probably three straight rides, and a 9 year old kid asked how we got to stay on the front. Our tour guide said that we were the park's VIPs. The kid responded by asking us if we were friends with Justin Timberlake. Apparently JT's friends are VIPs in that kid's mind. It made us laugh the whole ride.3 points

My first Diamondback ride was Opening Day 2009. I waited 10 minutes because I went through the single rider line. I remember it being a great ride but I wished the drops were a bit lower to the ground. When I got off, I got a "First Rider" T-shirt (which was an unexpected surprise).2 points

A lot of the "wannabes" are rich, spoiled brats. If they want something all they do is ask their parents and they'll buy it for them. But when park security or a ride operator tells them that they can't do something, they'll start whining. I see it happen all the time.2 points

I love reading your trip reports. They are always fun, your family's love for each other always shines through, and it's clear how much you love the park. And they just make me happy! Thanks so much for posting these. I'm very glad you do!2 points

My family wants a ferris wheel at KI. My kids chose the local carnival over KI the other day because of this! My 3 year old is hard headed like her daddy i guess! Maybe a giant ferris wheel in Action Zone!2 points

Ah, there's nothing more refreshing on a hot summer's day, than a swim in the park's Tidal Wave Bay! Because nothing compares to being in a lukewarm soup, of worn-off band-aids and icky guest poop.2 points

If you've ever experienced dehydration, or have seen someone during it, you wouldn't say that. It is a very serious medical crisis.2 points

Like these? I think these fell to the ground sometime before the ride was repainted in 2004. It's cool to always have a piece of something that was such an important time in my life.1 point

They can cut grooves or put scatches into the fiberglass, which makes the formerly smooth surface not so smooth. Now the next guest goes down the now damaged slide and gets scratched or a rough and uncomfortable ride. This has already happened to the point where many of the slides are somewhat painfull to go down.1 point

I would rather just take my chances leaving my stuff in the field than paying for the lockers.. which by the way, needs more attention IMO. The hay is gone now and so are the seeds from what I can tell. I miss the grass to walk in/ lay out/ or leave things in. I'll just be patient with nature. But all in all.. I'm not real happy with the new stuff aside from the new pool. It's only problem is the horizontal pushing and the over bombardment of tubes. I've had so many times people bump into me without even realizing it. I wish the water wasn't warm like it is, but I went to the water park on a cold-ish day once, so it's not ALWAYS a bad thing I'm kinda disappointed in the "action" aspect of the river, it's not enough to get excited about, and it's too distracting to relax. But it's okay, I suppose. I wish the path beyond Pineapple Pipeline wasn't closed off, I'm going to have to use the action river just to get to the other side now. On a side note: Why don't they allow metal bearing swim trunks to be worn on body slides?1 point

Ding! Ding! Ding! End of round one. Please retire to your respective corners. Thank you. (Multiple exclamation points are okay if separated by words, especially onomatopoeic ones.) If I were to go to another thread, I'd say I'd want an NFL-themed Tilt-a-Whirl, with the cars painted like local-market teams, the platform painted like turf (or covered with artificial turf), a large "football" in the center, and stadium theming curving around the outside. Maybe some Chris Bermanisms piped in with crowd noises over some loudspeakers for some appropriate ambiance. Call it "Red Zone Fumble" or something like that.1 point

I think they need to expand the dining area where the bar is (I have no clue what it's called) because it's pretty pointless to have a band play there when there's no room for people to sit. At least that's how it was when I went. I wanted to listen to the band but there was no room to sit.1 point

In the Action River, or Splash River as it has been somewhat appropriately dubbed, sounds like a huge dissappointment to general crowds this year. The could still have the water effects, but instead of powerwashing you, just a light pour. You don't need Shoot-the-RidersRapids style blasters, but a gentle spritz. That is where the spitting beagle would best fit!1 point

^So there ARE two sets of rules? I am not a mod but I have been told inside stuff from employees...which I do not share...my information has come from some people "in the know"...so how would my hinting be any different? Is it a post count? A title? Don't get me wrong, I like the rumor area...but I have always thought that it was created so that posters could post whatever they felt like as long as they identified it as something that wasn't official...it was only if they claimed it was a fact that they had to back it up with their source(s)? If we always wait until the park confirms something this site would be dull(er).1 point

Not sure whether you're being sarcastic or not, but I'll point you in the direction of the Terms of Service: Sorry if I'm just trying to keep these forums cleaned up for those who want to contribute worthwhile posts like LongLivesKingCobra and people who want to spam it with their vague crystal ball predictions.1 point

Also, don't let the current anticipated line-up of large attractions for next year give you any glimpse into Mr. Ouimet's future plans for the parks. Likely all large attractions slated to open for next season are the final orders of the Carowinds GM's daddy. It does take some time to do all the planning, whether it be conceptually, physically, or financially. Sure the new leader may have put into place some new attractions and improvements, but it's going to be a little while longer before we are really able to wet our feet with the new boss's plans. I for one, cannot wait for what's in store. There are more to parks than just big steel coasters don' cha know.1 point

Happened to me once, probably the worst I have ever felt. I think Soak City is good, while it has never been the best waterpark, it is a great way to spend a few hours. My only complaints are they had too many tubes in AR and too little in the new wave pool. It was impossible to get a tube in the wave pool, and the tubes were all right next to each other in the lazy river.1 point
-
I can. Ice cold beer, a big lake and a pontoon boat. Beer actually will cause you to get de-hydrated on a hot day. Ice cold water is the best thing.1 point
-
I think that Soak City is indeed new and improved. The new wave pool's waves are absolutely spectacular ( great exercise for me ) and although the lazy river is not really a lazy river any more with all the splashing, who cares? Its hot out and the extra splashes feel great. Also love the band by the bar which plays the calypso music. All and all, cannot think of a greater way to spend a hot, 90 plus day.1 point
