  1. Don't forget to paint it red and yellow. Sell food in the queue... because, y'know, people gotta eat. Oh, and it'll probably cost a lot, but it will run pretty well--it's an operations ride, not a financial one.

  2. It would be awesome if they would replace the banners with LED signs that could change and always be updated! Plus if KI were to get a Luminosity (in Action Zone), they could be used for that too! Action Zone has potential to be the part of the park with the most "action", it just needs a new ride and some updates here and there!

  10. Maybe they should make a ride inspired by CF's former CEO. Call it "Kinzel - The Ride". It will have its ups and downs but the end is rich. At first, people will like the new ride, but as the years past, coaster enthusiasts will despise it. Build it in the main parking lot so it can be viewed from the chaussee, along with the Magnum XL-200. AND - if it were a twin, racing coaster, make sure the one side can't see the other, and vise-versa, the entire ride. Then, when the riders are leaving the station, they can ask the other trains' riders, "Have we met yet?".

  11. WOW. Thanks Gordon! I expect nothing less when I read through your posts. Which is also why I love (Shameless plug for you I guess) your Queen City Discovery page! It's amazing and so was that post. Thank you very much for all of those pictures. All of them brought back memories of the first time I rode SOB. It was Fathers Day of the year it was built, so what was that? 2000? We waited near King Cobra for 10:00am and all I could hear was the loud lift hill as the cars made their first tests for the day. 10:00am came around and we were allowed to walk back to the station. My heart began beating faster and faster. The Box that once housed the little ******* had been opened forcibly from the inside with the logo in it. I looked at it and told my father that I didn't think it was a good idea! We took the long walk back and I remember a sign that said "Feel the wrath: 2000" and I told my father that I was about to feel something... We entered the station and got on the ride, and you know what? I had fun! I LOVED IT! By the time we got to the on ride photo section I was smiling laughing and posed with 2 peace signs (we still have the on ride photo of it). I rode it every time nearly 4-6 times each visit. Always in the front seat. It was the only way to go.

  13. We got there at 10:30 and walked through the park entrance. To prepare for rides we headed to Flight Deck. We marathoned on it twice. But then there were lines in all spots so we got off and headed to Adventure Express. It was a great ride.10/10. We marathoned on twice but got tired of it.7.5/10.I then got on Vortex and took everyones advice and rode in 5-1. It was an awesome ride.10/10. So awesome i rode it again in the same seat. I then got on racer. (red). good ride as usual 8.0/10. I learned they do not open up blue racer till 12 P.M We then went to Firehawk. Nice ride as usual 10/10. We then went to Diamondback. I dont need to say the rating. we then went on white water canyon good ride.9.0/10. We then got on flight deck good ride as usual. We then ate at the festhaus and then headed to congo falls .good ride as usual 10/10. I then got on Invertigo. Its now my 2nd favorite ride at KI. And awesome and intense ride.We then tried to force my brother on Adventure Express.Note: my twin brother is esscentially the oppisite from me. He hates rollercoasters while i love them.We finnally forced him on it by bribing him . He cried on it . 10/10 esspeccially because of that! Alright heres a count of the rides ive ridden so far: Flight Deck:2 Congo Falls:1 Invertigo:1 Adventure Express:4 Diamondback:1 Firehawk:1 Racer:1 So we then went on white water canyon and then went to Soak City because of the bribe . We got there and put our stuff in the locker and went to the wave pool. We then went on thunder falls. Good Ride7.5/10. We then went on the body slide next to it. nice 10/10. We then went to the blue and orange water slide.Cant remeber the name. Nice ride and you get a lot of airtime on the drop into the swirly Vortex of terror. We then went in the wave pool got onto the lazy river 7/10. And then went back to the wave pool and then took the train back to the park. We ate dinner and my brother left. I rode Diamondback 10/10 an then i got to beast.I then got on Adventure Express.8.0/10 esspecialy beacause the themes were working even the red lights!I then got on racer 8.0/10 . I learned a lesson to not sit in the very back on a wheel seat cause i got beat up.8.0/10. We then went to flight deck and marathoned twice. Good ride 10/10. We were walking back and asked an employee aout when Delirium is going to open back up. He said i dont know. We asked why it was closed. He said i dont know. What the heck. I was thinking, your the most uninformitve employee ever. He was even working on the ride. We then headed towards Firehawk. But we couldnt an employee said we couldn't do it because we HAVE to rent a locker to get on it . We then headed to beast and i splited up with the group. It was my first night ride ever!We waited 45 mins. beacause of the fireworks. We then got on it. The FREAKEN BEsT RIDE OF MY LIFE!1000/10. Especially since i couldnt see anything. Everyone was so afraid you could here screams from the station. Even more than Invertigo! We got off and the park was errielly quiet. It was like a ghost town. 16. Or, maybe we are NOT thinking too much, and simply having fun with the clues (which some should get one of) and making fun guesses. Seriously, even with the fact that Cedar Fair now has a CEO with imagination and more than a black and white money mind, I know better than to think for a New York minute that they would use the scientific name of a bat as a name for a roller coaster, nor would they go through the process of searching a thesaurus to find a synonym for the word Banshee. I do it, because I have that type of mind, and am thinking about 10 things from 20 different angles when most are thinking of 2 at best.

  20. Action Zone is definitely the ''ghetto'' section of the park. Beast banners? Crudely painted-over Boomerang Bay signs? If they do a makeover, I would like to see more trees/foliage. The faded pavement is just depressing... and hot.

  22. 1. If you've never been on a stand-up, I would ride it. If you have been on one, there's nothing really special about it. 2. Skip Corkscrew, everything else is worth riding. 3. I personally think maXair is better. 4. Skyhawk, I would say that's the most intense flat ride I have been on. I'd also do Cedar Downs, WindSeeker (great views from up there), maXair, Sky Ride and Power Tower (preferably the drop side). Also don't forget, a trip to Cedar Point is not complete without a ride on the train. 5. Top Thrill Dragster is the most intense 17 seconds of your life. Nothing can compare to that launch. Do Millennium Force then Maverick then just work your way to the front of the park. My family always eats at the Coasters restaurant by Iron Dragon (good food and shakes). I'd recommend spending some time in the Last Chance Saloon too. Have fun!

  27. Having only been to HW and KI this year, I would have to go with HW. HW wins with Mammoth. KI loses on IMO false advertising (how is SC double the size of BB when the only addition is one new wave pool? I still can't figure that one out.).

  29. I love Action Zone, I wish they would take more care of it. I mean it's okay, but out-dated signs, Delirium being down for so long (I know they are doing everything they can), SOB just sitting there, Face/Off (I don't like calling it Invertigo lol) being down everytime I'm there (I usually find it open late in the day and make a ride on it), Top Gun/Flight Deck not getting enough riders (It's a really fun ride), I mean the only rides that are really officiant are Drop Zone and Congo Falls. IMO!

  30. ^ I feel like it should be pointed out that Holiday World proceeded to use the Banshee name until 2002, if that has any relevance. Maybe the name was a factor in the ride's removal? I'm excited about the possibility that it's a B&M 4th dimension. I wonder if Walter and Claude are feeling especially adventurous and are going to include the launch system their company's been rumored to have been designing for a while now. Also, Cedar Point just posted this to Facebook: EDIT: Darn it, Colonel_SoB_fan just beat me to it!

  31. That is not bad, for a weekday at CP.Typically, CP is packed end of June through mid-August. Yet with any park, it is difficult to near impossible to predict crowds. No matter how long the lines are, enjoy the views & scenery and enjoy your first trip to the Point!

  32. Every B&M ride at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Tampa was equipped special securing brackets so that people with amputations or missing limbs could ride in certain seats. Before the installation, anyone with an amputation above the knee could not ride the B&M coasters while anyone with an amputation above the ankle couldn't ride Apollo's Chariot. http://www.buschgardensvablog.com/making-coasters-accessible For everything there is a reason. (That was seven years ago. The man and Busch Gardens settled out of court for an amount that "barely covered his lawyer fees." The 2011 article is primarily there to reflect on the tragedy at Darien Lake, but notes of Montu at Busch Gardens: "But amputees wearing prosthetic limbs above the knee are still not allowed to ride the 60-mph roller coaster on which riders' legs dangle freely." From that article: Also: But let's bring the car around again and go through the legal process required to arrive at the same decision: policies are in place to keep people safe. Instead of being shocked and appauled, anyone missing a major limb should recognize their responsibility to contact the park beforehand and read every sign they can find to determine their ability to ride. I guess my annoyance is that if I was missing a leg, I would accept that I will probably be limited and contact the park to discuss my options. That requires, though, that park representatives know - and for that matter, have - a strictly adhered-to policy in place that all employees know and are not afraid to enforce.) What if I take legal action because my child isn't tall enough to ride The Beast? What if I SWEAR that my child is mature enough to hold on tight and to make good decisions on the ride? What if I tell the ride operator that my child has safely ridden The Beast before by standing on his tip-toes? Manufacturer recommendations and park procedure be darned, right? ... Until something happens.

  35. And do what you want to do. Don't let others' advice keep you from trying things out for yourself. For many years, I ascribed to the conventional enthusiasts' wisdom at the time that Six Flags Great Adventure was dirty, dangerous and little better than a dump. Finally, against my better judgment, I went, only to find a delightfully wonderful phantasmagoria of seasonal theme park goodness mixed with the unexpected. Go. Have a great time. And definitely ride everything you can. Some things won't be there next year. Heck, some of us won't be here next year. Enjoy all you can while you can.

  36. How about a compliment to Kings Island for their ongoing support of A Kid Again! The park recently hosted the annual event, providing free tickets, parking, and BBQ for many families with severely sick kids. Kudos KI! You may also remember this is the charity that was helped by the Diamondback first rider auction.

  39. Since everyone's been sharing their SOB memories, I though I'd share a few of mine and I'm in a writing mood so pardon this novel. I also thought I'd share a few photographs I came across. I remember the day they announced Son of Beast. I had come home from school and my dad was home from work early. Our family had been going to Kings Island regularly with passes since 1996/1997 and I had just gotten brave enough the year before to start riding the "real" rides. I remember him booting up the old dial up Netscape internet to show me the old Cincinnati.com articles, waiting with anticipation as each small image loaded of the ride's model. I remember vividly the wooden loop and how it looked on the model. I remember all the news outlets misreporting it as the world's FIRST wooden looping roller coaster. There was a book I checked out from the school library frequently that proved otherwise. When the ride finally opened, I was 11. I didn't get to ride it in its early days of one train operation before it closed down for awhile. When it did reopen, both trains were running and my uncle and I waited two hours. I remember the queueing very vividly. We were in a temporary line outside the entrance for awhile, I remember my uncle making fun of my shoes as we watched Top Gun nearby. I remember getting incredibly nervous as we waited on the ramps up to the ride station and saw the water dummies below. Never did I think while waiting for that ride that day that I'd ever work at the park let alone in the maintenance shop that worked on SOB or ever walk its rails, I was just thinking about how intimidating that hill looked. I even remember how the ride smelled and still smelled in its last operating season... all that wood. We boarded the train and the first thing I noticed was the awkward placement of the on-ride photo. Then the loud lift, the speed and view in the dip. The slow down at the first drop crest and then WHAM! You were flying. I immediately picked up on how the double helix rose bowl was a homage to the original Beast and then that loop... I made sure to look left and see the Eifel tower spin like in all the media videos. Then there was more speed and boom you were back. I was psyched. It was by far my favorite coaster. ...granted I was really thin, 11 years old and a little bit over four feet tall. My uncle on the other hand hated it and immediately complained of how rough and unenjoyable the experience was. I begged my dad to ride it again with me since my uncle declined. Another two hour wait and then I got to experience it all over again and loved it just as much. My dad hated it and never rode it again. As the years went by and I got taller and bigger I realized how painful and miserable of an experience the ride was. I stopped riding it at age 13. In 2006 the ride opened a few weeks after the regular park and a few people hinted on KIC that it would be much smoother. My friend and I actually ditched school a few periods early and headed up to the park when we heard from Boddah1994 that it was set to reopen that day. We got there and noticed they had removed the last car and that the ride was now a 5 car operation per train. We anticipated it greatly, there was a short line and we hopped in the back seat. If there was an improvement in the ride experience, we missed it cause it was still rough as hell. I didn't ride it again until after it reopened in 2007. While the first drop was great and the new trains offered more leg room... the Rose Bowl was still punishing and completely ruined any hope of the ride being good. I never much cared for it and by this time I worked at the park a lot, so I hardly ever visited in my off time. The last time I ever rode the ride was in 2008 while at the park to photograph some of the Knievel set up. Still didn't care for the ride. I have lots more experiences and cool stories about how special that ride was to me, but Ill save those for another day. Not that anyone asked, but in my humble opinion - the ride is done. I'm sure you could do something incredible with the Rocky Mountain treatment, but even if you did... EVERY news article and piece of media would include "the ride USED to be Son of Beast which was known for x y z (x y z not being good things). Browntggr brings up the best and most logical point. They haven't torn it down because it's not a threat, not falling down and not hurting anything. When they need to get rid of it... they will or they'll do it when they're ready to put something else there. And as someone who is familiar with that ride from many perspectives... you can't see anything from the midway or Adventure Express to be able to convulsively say you see it falling apart. Just throwing that out there. As for the photographs I mentioned earlier. I remembered seeing these a few years ago, but couldn't find the website. Apparently this website has been down since sometime in 2010 and even before that it reaked of early 2000's web development and hadn't been updated in some time. It is (err was) the website for Roller Coaster Corporation of America. I accessed these photos via the Way Back Machine. All of the following photographs are ©Roller Coaster Corporation of America. - Work on the loop towards the end of construction. - Aerial view towards the end of construction in 2000. Note that you can still see a lot of the landscaping for the former Wild Animal Habitat. - A train being lifted onto the track. - Work on the final brake run.* *A rumor I had always heard, but have no idea if it's true is that the brake run was initially designed to hold two trains in waiting in addition to one in the station for a three train operation. I also heard that the ride's station was supposed to be an exit station and that the area of straight track immediately exiting the station was going to be a loading station to allow for a four train operation. Obviously, the ride opened with one train and only ever ran two so who knows. - Not sure what section of track that is, but check out that extreme banking. Too bad you were too busy praying for the ride to be over to ever notice the cool element. - Construction workers. I bet these guys have a cool story. - No idea who any of these guys are, but I believe that the date reads February 17, 1999. Maybe checking out the area for where a future attraction would go? - Draw your own conclusions. - Land clearing, note Adventure Express on the right. - Construction as the sun sets. - A train on its way to the station. Note the all red color scheme that eventually was changed to Red/Yellow. - View from the block brakes while the ride was still under construction. - Not sure why the flag was raised here since I don't believe this is where they "topped off" and completed construction. - The media day in May 1999. - Mock up of the trains. Note how much more spacious/better they look compared to how they turned out. And last, but not least: - The station. Like, I said these are not my photos. They are ©Roller Coaster Corporation of America. If you want to see their old site, you can access it via the Way Back Machine here: http://web.archive.o...//www.rcca.com/ A man I once worked for, who taught me a lot, once pointed to that ride and said "To me, that thing is iconic of Kings Island." For me, it is as well. Even though I never cared much for the ride, it's symbolic of my favorite years in the park I spent with my family and for a lot of other things, but that's all another story for another day.

I am not a mod but I have been told inside stuff from employees...which I do not share...my information has come from some people "in the know"...so how would my hinting be any different? Is it a post count? A title? Don't get me wrong, I like the rumor area...but I have always thought that it was created so that posters could post whatever they felt like as long as they identified it as something that wasn't official...it was only if they claimed it was a fact that they had to back it up with their source(s)? If we always wait until the park confirms something this site would be dull(er).

  46. Depends on the people. I can have a grand day at Kings Island without riding a thing, and did in 2009 more than once, as I was medically restricted from riding due to then recent eye surgery. Others might be bored to abstraction. It also depend with whom one is with, the purpose of the visit, what shows are playing or dark and a host of other factors. I still think most depends on the person. Some could enjoy watching an anthill all day. Others would be bored in Times Square on New Year's Eve.
