  1. A coaster? In KI's parking lot? Forget it. They won't even run the trams in the parking lot!

  6. I had a very weird dream last night about a new area. It was called "NatiLand." It was themed to everything that Cincinnati is known for. There were two S&S space shot towers that looked like the smoke stacks at Great American Ballpark. The line was themed to look like a locker room/club house that one would find underneath the stadium. There was the tilt a whirl type ride that ThrillBiscut made in the photoshop topic. The ride had Bengal helmets as the thing you sit in. There was a Maverick clone called "The Big Red Machine." The supports that hold up the lift hill were shaped like baseball bats. The line took you through a building full of Reds memorabilia. For those of you who have been on Maverick you would have noticed the trains are named after tv characters from the show Maverick. Well, the trains on The Big Red Machine were Rose, Bench, Morgan, etc... Right next to the Big Red Machine was Pete's arcade. Needless to say it was full of betting style games. (I found this hilarious) The Animal Safari was back with a monorail that was sponsored by the Cincinnati Zoo. To enter the area you had to walk over a mini Daniel Carter Beard bridge that crossed a river. That is all I can remember. It was pretty neat.

  7. I have read where some people didn't like this coaster. I thought it was a fun little ride. My problem is, I rode The Beast when I was around 12 years old, and I judge (unfairly) all wooden coasters to this. It is very hard to live up to the standard of a wooden giant, that resides in the woods of Ohio. I am now 44 and I try to take each wooden coaster for what it is, not for what it is not(The Beast) I just get into riding a good coaster, and it seems over way too fast. Grizzly at Kings Dominion, was pretty good, but didn't seem long enough for me. Yet again, I have The Beast to blame. I finally made to Holiday World, this past June, and I have to say, The Voyage is one of the best woodies out there. It doesn't let up the entire time. I rode if in the front, back, and the middle of the train, awesome wherever I sat. Hope the Timberliner trains come soon, and make the ride experience even better.

  8. I had a vacation day to use and wanted to visit another day before the end of daily operations. I headed towards KI at 6:30 AM from Indy. Got in the park about 8:45. There was a delay with DB opening so I only got 3 rides in during ERT, but rode a 4th time before heading towards The Beast. I was walking with a retired P & G employee who hits up the park a lot and we rode The Beast 3 times in a row. I was telling him about what I think about where to sit on a 3 seat car on a train. Obviously middle row is best, but we ended up ridding 3 times in a row. We sat on the same train and in the same car, but we shifted from middle row, to front row, and then back row. That order is what we decided was smoothest to roughest. I parted ways with him at that point and I headed towards BLSC. I then decided to get a good ride in on WS. Vortex was having an issue and maintenance was hard at work getting it up and running. I then headed up CM and hit up Racer and then on to AZ and rode Delirium since I missed it last visit. I was getting a little warm so I hit up Congo Falls. While ridding there were some people from possibly Pakistan with those really cool bright outfits (Shalwar kameez style) who sat in the back row of the boat. They were soaked from head to toe after the drop. They were smiling so I guess they enjoyed it and not upset they got them wet. I then headed back to DB for another good ride. I was then getting hungry so I was looking for some food options. I wanted Rivertown Junction, but it was closed that day and Hanks was also closed. I ran into Don and talked to him for a few minutes. I then ended up at Jukebox Diner. This was my first vist there this season. The burger and fries were great and the portion of fries was just right for a very hungry man! After getting full I decided to hit up Vortex since I missed it earlier. I had never done a invert right after lunch before, but normally ride DB right after lunch, so I figured I would be fine. I did have a little grey out on the start of the second loop that I had never had before on that ride, but not sure if it was due to having a full stomach? The ride did not bother my stomach in any way. A True Ride Warrior!! I then figured I better not push it and decided to take a nice relaxing ride on WS. I then wanted to head back towards DB, but on the way I hit up BLSC and rode The Beast 2 more times. I meet up with Gary Coleman at DB and rode 6 times in about 35 minutes. I then really needed to get something to drink, so I left Gary and got some water and a Coke. At that point Beasie1980 (Melissa) texted me and said that she was in the park eating in the FH. So I got back on DB and rode it again and met her and her family at the exit. Melissa had her sister with her and we took a ride on DB. We then headed over to The Beast and rode it 2 times. They wanted to ride FOF, so we headed that way. Got a good ride on it. We then hit up Racer, AE, Delirium, and Invertigo. Melissa had not ridden in the front seat closest to the control room, so we rode in that seat. I don't ride Invertigo to often, but this was a good ride. We then hit up FD. I took a few pics of SOB while we were back there. Good bye SOB! I guess it was just not meant to be. We then headed down CM and around to BLSC and got the white train. We stopped at the DB splash down and Melissa's mom took a picture of us with a train going through the splashdown. Left to right: Beastie1980, Indyguy4ki, Beastie1980's sister (I forgot her name.) We then rode DB, Melissa wanted to ride front seat, so I took a few pics while we waited for that row. At this point it was getting dark and Melissa wanted a night ride on The Beast, so at about 8:30 we headed towards The Beast. Here we are in the queue. I got some sun today. Okay, I got a lot of sun today! We got an amazing night ride in on The Beast. (I have only had one or two so far this season) After that I wanted to get a night right in on DB and then I was getting home for it was close to 9:30 and I had a 2 hour drive ahead of me. We had a great night ride on DB to end the night. All in an awesome day at the park. Thanks to KI for another great relaxing day at the park. Ride Count: DB - 15 The Beast - 8 BLSC - 3 WS - 2 Racer - 2 Delirium - 2 Congo falls - 1 Vortex -1 FOF - 1 AE - 1 FD - 1 Invertigo - 1 Total: 38 Thanks for reading!

  9. So last week I went on vacation with my family which consisted of my mom, sister, neice(9), nephew(5), and my girlfriend. We went down to Pigeon Forge and rented a cabin from August 18-25. During our week down there, one of our main plans was to visit Dollywood. I went to Dollywood back in the early 90's when I was around 12 or so, but haven't been there since. I was excited to check out the park and be able to enjoy it again as an adult. Our first day in the park was Sunday August 19. I wasn't sure what the crowds were going to be like, but to my surprise, there were hardly any crowds at all! The weather was pleasant, not too hot, it was just right. It had rained earlier that morning and it remained slightly overcast. We arrived around noon and entered the park. Since we had my nephew with us we knew we'd spend some time riding some of the smaller rides, which was ok. We had invested in a season pass several months ago when they were running a special online. We knew we'd come at least 2 days and maybe a third if we needed more time to ride rides. I wasn't as concerned with trying to see everything in one day, so this allowed us to sort of relax and just take our time. The first thing we rode were the little cars that you drive around the track. This was perfect for my nephew who's 5. He loves cars and he loved the fact that he could take his uncle (me) on a ride around the track. My neice, who's 9, rode with my girlfriend. I get a lot of enjoyment watching the kids have fun and experience new things, so I was perfectly content starting off the day with some smaller rides. I knew I'd eventually get to the big coasters a bit later. After the cars we headed for the train. My nephew loves trains and it was all he talked about, he wanted to ride the train! So we headed up the walkway to the train station and wouldn't you know it, the train was just pulling away. At Dollywood the train makes a trip once every hour. We had just missed the 1 o'clock ride and the next ride would leave at 2. At this point my nephew had become interested in one of the shows so my mom decided to sit there with him so he could hear the singing and my girlfriend and I could take my neice to ride some bigger rides and then meet them back at 1:45 to ride the train. From there we headed to the Blazing Fury. This was one of the few things I remembered about Dollywood when I was a kid. I was too afraid to ride it then because I didn't like coasters yet, but this time I couldn't wait to get on. That ride is definitely unique. It's like part dark ride, part coaster and the few drops that they do have take you by surpise! They're not big drops, just enough to be fun! Once we got off it was time to head back to the train and we made it just in time to load up. We took a very nice ride on the Dollywood Express and got to see more areas of the park. I noticed the new Wild Eagle as well as the Texas Tornado and their wooden coaster (the name escapes me at the moment). After seeing these, I knew what I wanted to do later that day! After the train ride we decided to split up again. My mom took my nephew down to the "Fair" area and we took my neice to ride some of the bigger coasters. Before this though, we stopped and grabbed some lunch. After lunch we headed for the Wild Eagle! The wait was practically nothing. We walked right in and up to the loading station. I think we might have waited ten minutes if that. That ride is amazing! It was my first experience on a winged coaster and it is quite an experience! It's very smooth and it's nice not having a track above or below you. You truly do feel like you're flying! After the Wild Eagle, we headed for Mystery Mine! This ride is quite unique. I loved the 90 degree parts of the track where it takes you literally straight up and then straight down. I've never ridden anything quite like that before in my life! The only complaint though is that it was kind of rough. It really gives you a beating and after that my head hurt somewhat. It really through me for a loop! We decided to save the 2 other coasters for the next day in the park and head back to meet up with my mom and nephew. On our way back though we noticed the Barnstormer and decided to take a ride on that. That is a very fun ride! You swing back and forth so high and you catch some serious air time! I'd like to see something like that at KI! Since we were right there, we caught I ride on the Slidewinder which was quite fun. You get kind of wet, but not too bad. It's a fun ride on a big water slide and it's fun going into the tunnels and around the curves. Great experience! So we then headed back to the Fair area and caught some rides on the smaller rides such as the ferris wheel, the kiddie coaster and tea cups. After that my sister took the kids on one more ride on the train and by that time it was about time to go. I enjoyed walking around quite a bit because there were no crowds and you could just take your time and appreciate the scenery and the atmosphere! We came back for a second day on Wednesday August 22. This day though it was quite a bit hotter and there were more people. I won't go into as much detail about this day, but I will recap some of the rides we rode. We did manage to catch the other two coasters. The Texas Tornado was very fun. It was short, but effective! The wooden coaster was really crazy! Very fast and very twisty! I've never ridden anything quite like that. It sure beat the heck out of me though! We also caught a ride on the Smoky Mountain Adventure simulator ride. Those are always fun and it was something that the whole family could ride including my mom and my nephew. We did catch a ride or two on the Dollywood Express and had a nice lunch. All in all it was a pretty good day again. So now I've gotten to experience Dollywood again and it was quite fun. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the scenery and the mix of rides they have at the park. I think the whole family found something they could enjoy there. Since we have the season passes, we might try to go down again around Christmas time and see it all lit up. If not though, I feel like we saw everything we wanted to see and had a great time!

  10. ^What makes Double Loop and Tennessee Tornado? Also, ones favorite ride may not be another's. Some loved Son of Beast, some loved The Crypt, some love Firehawk, others The Monster. No attraction NEEDS to be taken out (maybe Backlot--but that should be moved to Action Zone and replaced with our rightful replacement of the Flying Eagles), as each fit this park very well. My point is, just because you don't like a ride, doesn't mean it should be ripped out, because it is bound to be someone's favorite.

  11. First of all I'd like to apologize for the delay in writing this second part. I've been very busy lately, but finally found a few hours to sit down at my computer and type. Part 2- Six Flags Great Adventure After about three more hours in the car traveling from West Babylon, New York, we were in the shadow of the magnificent, towering structure known as Kingda Ka in the parking lot at Six Flags Great Adventure. Since it was nearly 7:30 by the time we entered the park, we only had two and a half hours left until closing and we wanted to make the most of our “night ride” time, because we did not intend on staying until sundown on the next day. We decided to use the same strategy as we did at Cedar Point, and try to ride our three favorites with this limited time. We also attempted to make them all night rides, but that attempt did not succeed. First up was the gigantic B&M hyper coaster that looms over guests that take an immediate right upon entering the park, Nitro. At the point that we were at in the line, there was a sign that said the wait was 30 minutes from that point, but I knew that it would be no longer than 15 minutes since they were running three trains. I was right, for within the next 10 minutes we were boarding the back row and all clear for dispatch. Nitro is truly an excellent ride full of all the floater airtime one can imagine. The first drop and rolling bunny hills after the mid course brake run are my highlights of the ride, simply because during those parts you rarely contact your seat! The overall experience is just so smooth and enjoyable that I could just ride it over and over again. (And I would do that the next day) 10/10 After all that floater airtime, we felt like we needed some ejector air to balance it out a little bit. In order to get our fair share of that and more, we headed to my favorite coaster at the park, El Toro. We waited about 20 minutes outside of the station before the employee let us proceed and choose our row. There’s just one thing that confuses me: all the guests seem to overwhelmingly crowd the front of half of the station and leave the back half practically empty! The ride op had to announce several times for people to use the whole station but it continued to happen for the remainder of my visit. Having ridden this coaster in both the front and back half of the train several times, I enjoy the back a lot more than the front. I’m fine with it I though. Less waiting for me! Anyways, we choose the very back row and waited one ride cycle before we were speeding up that cable lift hill. El Toro is simply amazing. The ejector airtime is the most intense I have experienced from the first drop to the brake run, and it is the most exciting ride I have ever been on. Seriously, this thing just relentlessly throws you out of your seat on every high-speed hill in the most extreme way imaginable. I’ve been on the ride before, but I cannot stop describing its magnificence. After this trip, El Toro moved ahead of Millennium Force and Maverick to take the place of my number three rollercoaster. I’ve never been on The Voyage, but I have an awful hard time believing that it can match the airtime, speed, and smoothness of El Toro. 10/10 with no doubt in my mind. Next on our “to ride” list was the tallest coaster in the world, Kingda Ka. It was dusk at the point that we got in line, but after the hour and a half long queue, we were about to get our front row night ride in on this massive steel beast. Now don’t get me wrong this thing is just as crazy of a rush as Top Thrill dragster, but I just don’t like Ka as much as Top Thrill. The restraints on Top Thrill are a lot more comfortable and open in my opinion, and Ka has too much vibration in the track and just lacks the hype and excitement that the theming on Dragster gives the ride. It is still a great ride, but not the best of its kind. 9/10 After rocketing to the sky on Kingda Ka, we decided to get our night ride on El Toro. Since we only waited about 10 minutes to get into the station on this ride, we thought we were going to have enough time to hurry over to Nitro for a last night ride before the park closed. But it was not to be. Because of the tight restraints on this ride, many people have troubles getting them to lock and need the assistance of an employee. This significantly slows down the operations of the ride, and it was past closing by the time it was our turn to ride. However, this disappointment was quickly forgiven after a spectacular night ride on this beast. At night, the ride seems to fly even faster and more out of control over each and every hill than it does in the day. It was a truly fantastic way to end the night at the park before heading to the hotel to recharge for a whole new day of thrills. At about 11:00 AM the following day, we had already scanned our Six Flags season passes and were on our way to the Flash Pass booth. Yes, I am aware many of you are against these expensive devices that allow you to bypass most of the regular line, but in some cases, they are necessary. On the rare occasion that I get to make the journey to this excellent New Jersey amusement park, the last thing I want to do is waste my time in the same kind of hour and a half lines in the heat of the day that I had waited in the previous night. We also did not plan on spending the whole day at the park, and wanted to make the most of the precious time we had. We chose the Gold level Flash Pass, and dashed to the same ride to start our day with that same ride that we had ended the last with last night, El Toro. We were directed right into the station and waited about 10 minutes before a back row ride that is sure to fully wake you up in the morning. After that breathtaking ride on El Toro, we headed next door to Bizarro and waited one train to ride front row on this floorless coaster. This ride has always been my favorite floorless because of its X2-like fire effects, audio soundtrack, and mist effects on various parts of the track. The ride itself is fantastic also with a large drop cobra roll, and many other wonderful elements like a zero g roll. Bizarro is also very smooth, making the overall experience very enjoyable at the same time as thrilling. 8/10 Next we headed to Kingda Ka to experience yet another exhilarating ride before making our way right back the path we came to get another ride on El Toro, and finally another ride on Kingda Ka before exploring some other rides that the park has to offer. While we were in the area, I considered riding Rolling Thunder just for The Interpreter, but since my dad doesn’t ride most old, wooden coasters, I decided against it. First up was their parachute drop ride because it was on our way to the rest of the park from El Toro. We had never been on a ride like this, and actually enjoyed it. It is a nice way to view the park while not flying over the hills of a roller coaster or anticipating the drop of a Drop Tower ride. 5/10 because well… it’s a parachute ride Since we were in the same general area, we decided to check out the newest coaster addition to the park, Green Lantern. Now going into this ride, I had low expectations because I strongly dislike standup coasters in general. But I tried to keep an open mind because of some of the positive reviews I’ve read of Chang. Nope, it was the same as every other standup coaster I’ve ridden if not worse. The sharp pain in my lower legs just got worse and worse as the ride goes on. I know some of you are probably thinking right now that I’m not riding it correctly. But I paid very close attention to the instructions this time and rode just as I always have; with my legs straight and not sitting on the small bicycle seat. Upon exiting the ride I tried to remember anything positive throughout the ride whatsoever, but it was made difficult by the leg pain that persisted throughout the remainder of the day. 2/10 because the drop was less painful than the remainder of the ride Next we skipped a long regular line for the surprisingly popular Superman: Ultimate Flight. Looking back at it, I’m pretty sure we just rode it because it was right next to Green Lantern and we didn’t have to wait in line for it, because there is really nothing special about the ride. The layout of this cloned ride is simply uninteresting and feels weak and slow after flying at the speed of fear on Tatsu. 6/10 because it is relatively smooth, has a decent pretzel loop, and after all, it is a flying coaster We then decided to check out Great adventure’s new swing ride, SkyScremer. We used our Flash Passes and waited one ride cycle before boarding our seats. If the spinning and towering height isn’t enough to make you nervous, the unsecure-looking restraint system is. I personally liked the ride and like how it goes all the way up, down a little, then all the way back up to the top before it’s final descent. This increases the ride time and at the same time is more exciting than staying at the very top. You also get considerably more wind on SkyScreamer than WindSeeker because of its faster maximum spin speed. 6/10: A slightly more exciting way to view the park than the parachute ride. After SkyScreamer, we decided to get our ride on the airtime monster known as Nitro. Since the Flash Pass path led us to the back half of the station and there were two open seats in back row, we waited all of about 45 seconds from the time we entered the queue to dispatch. It was every bit as fantastic as it was the previous night, so we decided to ride it three more times in a row with about a 2 minute wait each. Since we were already in the area, we decided to get a quick ride on Batman: The Ride. We waited an extra 10 minutes to ride front row, as we always do on inverted and floorless coasters. We’ve always thought these compact little clones are pretty fun. All the different elements and inversions are packed so close together that there is never a dull moment. Because the track is so close to each other, it also feels like you’re traveling even faster through that twisted, smooth mass of steel than you really are. It is by no means my favorite inverted coaster, but it is great for a ride that I have been on at four different parks. 7/10 By this time, it was the hottest part of the day and we were looking for some way to escape the heat so we went to the Dark Knight Coaster since we were already in the area. For this ride, the Flash Pass users enter the line before you get into the building, and most of the queue is actually inside the building so we couldn’t skip much of a line. Immediately upon entering the building, we knew the wait was too long for the quality of the ride, so we just left to go ride Nitro a few last times. After those three amazing rides on Nitro with very little waiting, we headed over to El Toro to balance the ejector and floater airtime a little better. After that superb ride El Toro, it was about 4:30 and we were hoping on leaving soon so we headed over to the Golden Kingdom for a last ride on Kingda Ka Approaching the entrance of Kingda Ka, we saw a kid being cared for in a first aid golf cart with a large crowd around it. Thinking nothing of it, we continued through the Flash Pass entrance and into the station. Some of the employee’s started cleaning one of the cars, and announced on the loudspeaker that the ride will be temporarily closed due to natural causes. Thinking that we knew what they meant by “natural causes”, we decided we didn’t have enough time to wait for it to reopen and took off to get a last ride on El Toro. While exiting we overheard a couple of ride ops talking about what happened, so I decided to ask and find out. They replied that a kid got hit with a bird at the bottom of the drop before the brake run. The boy thankfully only suffered a nosebleed and a couple of cuts on the face, while the bird however died and had to be cleaned out of the train; thus the delay. After hearing of this bizarre incident, we continued over to El Toro to get one final on this insane coaster before taking off. Part of the reason why we took off so early is because we hadn’t eaten since we arrived at the park. But the real reason is because we had a two and a half hour drive to get to a sweet amusement park in Hershey, Pennsylvania. I hope to have part 3 posted more quickly than I had part 2 posted, but I can't make any promises with school starting soon. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for part 3!

  20. We sat near the back on Thunderhead (thanks for reminding me of the name!). Maybe "beat up" was too strong of a term to use. It did throw me around quite a bit though. I, personally, didn't catch any of the shows. However, my mom and nephew watched part of one. We were thinking about going back a third day to watch shows, but our schedule ended up not allowing for that. I can't remember the name of the place that we ate, but I got a chicken fingers meal and my girfriend got the pulled pork sandwhich. We both really enjoyed our food. My mom, sister and nephew ate at the 50's diner and they said the food was good there too. Some of the places sold these cookies that were wrapped up 2 for $1. Those cookies were fabulous lol! We bought quite a few of those to snack on throughout the day. As far as going back down around Christmas, that's kind of up in the air right now. First we have to consider budget, if we have the money to go or not and then we have to figure out what our schedule will be around that time. We've all talked about it, but we'll just have to see. We'd all like to go, but you know how that is...it all kind of revolves around money and time unfortunately.

  22. I'd imagine video sales would do far better if the video was already in a format you could easily upload to facebook/YouTube (versus a DVD) and if the video was affordable. Getting off a ride, still on an adrenaline rush, I could foresee a lot of guests watching their video, laughing, and being willing to make an impulse purchase of a few dollars to email it to themselves. Somewhat unrelated, but I think it'd be a very cool feature if rides with on-ride photos/videos had the option to email it to yourself for only a couple dollars (and without needing to buy a package or combo first), and you could potentially even buy a season pass / ticket add-on which gave you unlimited on-ride photos/videos for the season/day. Just some day dreaming here though

  28. You aren't mistaken. They were videos. And they sold very, very poorly. The fact that most of the video was stock footage and comparatively little was onride footage of rider reactions probably didn't help. I actually saw guests warning other guests not to waste their money.

Or, heaven forfend, even if there aren't. That's what I meant, I have no idea how much water they can carry, all I know is that the blue train #12 is more powerful than it's younger brother.

(I'm still trying to get my niece to go through the meat market, even though I'm an object of ridicule by being scared in the meat market.) I like getting some indoor haunts done before the sun goes down, just because it's light out doesn't mean that it's not bugged out inside.

  32. A thought, albeit a long stretch: take the idea from another thread about a B&M giga by Timberwolf running parallel to Colombia Rd. Now, when the ride reaches the central strip of grass in the parking lot, have an overbanked turn so that the track runs over that strip of grass towards the KI sign. A camelback or two later, have one of the Shambhala at PortAventura-style ampersand turnarounds that wraps around (or even through?) the KI sign, then runs back the way it came. It would catch some eyes, even from I-71.

  38. Kind of like those delays for mechanical issues when flying - nah, let's not wait for maintenance to check it out I'd rather try and get there ontime. It does amaze me that we let things we have NO control over allow us to cause so much stress.

  41. Going in the first couple of weeks will help you crowd wise. It gets more and more crowded as the weeks go on. That being said I recommend going the second or third week so that we scareactors have a groove going on our scaring techniques lol. Also plan on what Haunts/Rides you want to go through/on. I would go through some indoor haunts first to avoid the crowds and then start on whatever rides you want to go on. Obviously ride lines will be shorter than usual because of people going through the houses. Hope I helped ya out some.

  42. Please no. If the tracks are ever removed at this point, they may end up as salvage. CBS almost did that. See Kings Dominion. Or the Carowinds monorail. Say what you want about Dick Kinzel, and Lord knows I have, but the man loved trains. Here's hoping Matt Ouimet does, too.
