  1. So I am surprised I am the first to post these.... Anyway I passed KI earlier and snapped a few quick shots. Looks like they've started tearing down the first hill after the initial drop. Sorry about the quality and the tree in the way. I was in a hurry and figured I'd keep you guys and gals in the loop.

  2. In 2009 two of the key members left the site, and along with a stubborn admin (who didn't update), it was basically abandon. I could go on and on

  3. Since I'm only 18, I don't think it's fair to call me an "enthusiast," since I'm on the same site as people who have had waaaaay more experience with coasters and parks. I've been intrigued by coasters since I was 12, coming on this site to learn the facts and discovering RCDB years back. From there I learned how to distinguish an Intamin from a B&M, and annoyed my friends with corrections on ANYTHING they said about coasters, using coaster jargon. I've only been to KI and CP, but it is a goal of mine to visit other parks and experience some of the amazing rides you guys talk about on here. My freshman year of high school, I bought a $240 seat on Diamondback for opening day, made my mom drive me to the park to get there by 6:30 am, sat on the train with a complete stranger, and talked stats with that person until the ride began. Some people assume I don't know a lot about coasters since I'm only 18, but the ones who actually listen are surprised at how much I know. I get Kings Island's tweets to my phone. My facebook posts must seem so weird to people, when I share my thoughts toward anything about Kings Island and it just screams enthusiast. I relate every school project to roller coasters or Kings Island. People at school get weirded out when I'd look through KIC or RCDB during study hall, but roller coasters struck me as the coolest things ever when I was a kid, and I'll probably never stop being a coaster geek

  5. Yet you are still here. Differently abled people are entitled to equal opportunity, which I have fought for for most of my career. That does not mean a pass to do what one wants and then to cry out "But I'm disabled." rights are far too important to use only as a crutch. If I have truly offended someone who was not doing that, I apologize. I do NOT apologize, and never will, for knowing and expecting that all of us can achieve great things. And, by the way. If I have a problem with someone or their conduct, I tell them. I don't wait weeks or months and then "Hint. Hint" on a public forum. You won't get much done in life that way. Disability may be a fact of life, and for many of us it is., but it is not an excuse to be used for life.

  6. There was this one time when a fairly new member started a topic using a picture of the on-ride photo monitors when taking such a picture is against park rules...

  7. It's not. Each seat is still physically checked by a ride op no matter if the light is on or not. If one of the two redundant systems for verifying that seats are locked is malfunctioning, that could be a safety issue. They're redundant for a reason, and that's not the only safety problem. The WindSeekers are now hurting the safety reputation of the entire chain, as fair or unfair as that may be. No ride is ever worth that, so it will be interesting to see what happens. $33M (1.5 Sons of Beast) is a lot to sink into a project for these results.

  10. I lied earlier. I forgot I use the timeline often on this site. Edit: I'll also add that I like this forum layout. I like how pictures and videos (even though I can't watch them!) are allowed to be embedded... Even if it does create a mess when quote after quote has pictures. I also like that it lets you be creative with your signature. (Even though some people have ridiculously huge signatures) I'm used to PointBuzz where everything is more bland.

  14. The way I see it is that this site is for the discussions. IF you want to find out whats at KI you should just go to their website. Also, if you are on this website you are probably very familiar with all the attractions/info on Kings Island anyway.

  15. I rate myself around a 2-7(ish), in my opinion I am only a ethusiast of mainly roller coasters, water attractions, and theme parks in general. I still remember playing that old Roller Coaster Tycoon game, which now to me is a old dinosaur that I use sometimes. I use the site often, but I also use other sources like TPR and SS and occasionally other sites that are about the Amusement park industries, so to truthfully call myself anything, it would more or less be a "casual poster" or better yet "That person on the KIC that really likes Boomerang Bay and is the BB version of the KI enthusiast dude".

  16. Hmph! Well I'm glad KIC is still up! One of the reasons why I got a smart phone was to stay updated with KIC via Mobile internet. I feel old typing that

  17. Sorry if what I said a few posts up was a bit snarky. The general point I was trying to get across was that these rides are typically up, at least from my experiences. Not once have they gone down when I've visited. In fact, now that I reflect upon my visits, even Space Spiral was operating during each trip. Maybe I'm lucky?

  18. Along the same lines that I have never understood how anyone could be a paticular sports team's "enthusiast" year after year no matter what...I do not understand how anyone could be a KI Central "enthusiast" year after year. This site, just like a team is made up of a group of people...how can you like either with the same enthusiasm when they are never the same due to their everchanging "line-up"? I consider myself an enthusiast of certain members of KI Central...past & present.

  19. Please tell me there is an inside joke here? Terp and I may disagree on numerous topics, but it has NEVER come close to being disrespectful. It sounds like CoasterOhio is not only looking for special treatment, the member is looking for a handicap parking space at KIC (metaphorically speaking, of course). - Brown. Who's daughter was diagnosed with a disability, and made sure the ENTIRE family treated her the same as any other kid to prevent the excuse crutch from EVER being used.

  20. Given the problems also include Wonderful Park, I suppose you propose the legal lawyers include that there's been too much uptime (and too much time to come down when there is too much uptime) and too much downtown. Terp...miss a day, miss an elusive allusion.

  22. I couldn't find a topic about this so here goes: Just got back from KI (9/21/2012). Tonight was not packed. Madame Fatale's was FANTASTIC!!! The level and depth of the theme was very well done. I'm not giving anything away so don't ask. Nightmare Alley was kind of weak(maybe first night kinks), unless you're scared of eyeballs in trees, then beware. Loved Freak Street. Fog and Lasers and Freaks oh my!! Carnevil was the usual dose of 3D fun. I love walking through the tunnel without holding onto the rail. Holiday Horror was same as last year, not too scary but well themed with some good effects. Didn't see the drummers, but the stage looks great, and really happy to not see any midget wrestlers. International street had some great scareactors all over. The dancing Michael Jackson scareactor was a terrific dancer. Walked on many rides, had a great time. Saw some lightning in the distance, so we came home. What are your thoughts on Haunt this year?

  24. I went late Friday night because we just happened to be in the neighborhood. I believe it was after 11 when we got there. Wind was really whipping around so the fog around International Street was non existent and so were the lines. My wife just wanted to try out a house and maybe the scare zones so we went to Freak Street first. It was pretty well populated for how late it was on the first night. Very fun. Then we walked into Holiday Horror. It was pretty good, though at that point it seemed like there were less scare actors running around. Then we did Boo Blasters. Last year they had some scare actors in there to jump at you, but I only saw one in there this time and she was just leaning against the wall in mummy garb, but she didn't attempt to jump out or make a noise, which was disappointing. Then we went through Nightmare Alley. The eyes were cool but the lack of anything else going on there was not. We checked out the Blood Drums stage and then headed out. We're going again this Friday so we will wait to be surprised by the rest of the park. It didn't quite feel like Haunt to me that evening, but I think the wind keeping the fog from sticking around really took away the atmosphere. Can't blame the park for that though.

  25. They must be working on WindSeeker at KI or looking at it, as on the webcam on visitkingsisland.com the gondola is at the top of the tower.

  28. I've been pretty lucky. During my last trip to the Point, Millennium was down half the day but that was because of a lightning strike. Besides that, they're almost all always open. I do know one Intamin that's very reliable, Jr. Gemini

  29. KIC isn't an appropriate way to ask the park anything. You aren't the first person to ask about this here, and I'm sure the park has been asked in various ways such as email and Twitter. Offhand, I would guess that the park prefers pointing their webcams at more positive things. More positive? Kings Island posted pictures of Son of Beast being demolished on there own website......And further park expansion is usually a positive thing....

  35. Or so it was said... Lots of people here argue that there was (and continues to be) plenty of room for the Flying Eagles. If not in the exact spot where they were, then at least elsewhere in the park. Another camp insists that Backlot Stunt Coaster is in the wrong place, either A) because it does something irrevocably negative to that area of the park independent of the Flying Eagles' removal or B] because it should fit like a puzzle piece into the Thunder Alley plot of land in Action Zone, where it would also thematically make sense as a "backlot, stunt" coaster.

  36. I'm not much of a KIC enthusiast. I've never even met Dane, Boddah, or The Interpreter. Actual (slightly mushy) answer: I don't know. I know enough random KI ride trivia to make my non-coastering friends' eyes roll, but I don't get psyched every time I go to the park like I used to. I still love the park very much, but it's become less of "this is the best mini-vacation ever" and more of a place where I can relax and get away with each trip. I've come nowhere near the 18-ish visits I made in 2008 in this year or last, but I feel like I've learned to appreciate the place in a new way. (I guess that's one thing that can be said for the removal of The Crypt for me: I never really noticed this until this year. Once upon a time, riding it and Son of Beast were the meat and potatoes of a KI trip for me and my friends.) If you told me a year, I probably couldn't tell you with much certainty (unless we're talking the late 90's, 2000's, and whatever you want to call this decade) what rides came or went, but I can point out several places in the park where I've had fun experiences since I started buying my own passes four years ago. More times than not, the fun we've had was because we were at Kings Island. Summarized: I love the place, but not for any particular reason related to what's there, haha. EDIT: Except for Adventure Express.

  38. I have issues with fear of heights, that's why it's a big win when I conquer a ride like that. Three hours, I don't know how I would reacted, but after my guts untwisted themselves, I would given myself a big huge Cowardly Lion sized medal, compensation or not. Funny that when my parachute strings got tangled, I was as calm as a cucumber, like I was changing a lightbulb, but that was me saving myself- not me waiting for someone else to fix the situation. I hate relying on others to fix things, I have superiority issues that way.
