What I've found with working in haunted houses is that it doesn't matter what tool you use.. It's how you use it and the presence you have. I've seen actors get ridiculous scares with just a look.. I've also seen people drop to the floor in terror by just shouting "Poptart!". It depends on the guest, the timing, and the creativity of the actor as well as their ability to assess the situation (i.e. what scare will work best with which guest). I've seen both "real" and fake chainsaws at work and they both can be extremely effective depending on the handler. P.S. The Haunt's Undertaker kicks ass!5 points

^I'm not sure if getting someone to cry in terror just by singing is that much of an accomplishment...I know I could do the same thing.4 points

Not only is this dangerous for the scare actors, but also the patrons themselves. What it they misfire at an unprotected patron? If they hit anyone in the eye? This action wreaks of lawsuit.3 points

I was there with some friends again on Friday night and they went through Slaughter House. I didn't go with them, sorry "Sam" it's too terrifying for me to come through. When they came out the chainsaw dude at the exit scared the crap out of one of them. She took off running from him like a dimented chicken, it was awesome. Good job chainsaw dude!3 points

I made a lady cry in terror Saturday night while taking a break from the CHAINSAW by going through one of the rooms at slaughter house singing "just keep swimming" and made another person drop to the ground by doing a pop scare saying "pop tart"3 points

I got there around ten o'clock, I got my pretty photo taken at the season pass place for next season. We entered the park but sadly no early ride times because my three friends didn't not have a gold pass. I headed up to Eiffel Tower to get some nice views of my favorite regional amusement park. We then waited five minutes for rope drop behind the to tower and we sprinted off the back lot stunt coaster nice fun ride the lights were on in the tunnel you know after the second launch it was pretty cool. 8.5/10. We then proceeded to the worlds longest wooden roller coaster great ride on that 9/10. And guess what do it being my birth party thing (that's why I got to bring three of my friends up from Columbus) me and my friends and my dad purchased Fast Lane in the diamond back shop we then rode diamond back 2 times with Fast Lane awesome 10/10. We then decided to head to coney mall. One more ride on back lot and we were at my favorite multi looping arrow roller coaster Vortex. Picked seat carefully sitting in the famed 5-1 and instructed my friends to get 7-1. Super ride I love the first drop and the loops 9.2/10. Then we headed to Kings Islands oldest coaster (along side with wood stock) The Racer nice ride on that 9.0/10. We the head to my personal favorite and you guessed it Firehawk by now the lines were getting pretty long but guess who had Fast Lane me got a epic ride on my favorite ride 11/10. It was then time for Flight of Fear but the Fast Lane was an half an hour and my brother had just arrived and we went and got him at the drop place, he is six so we headed to Planet Snoopy wait now we head to ride Viking fury and he loves that ride then went to Planet Snoopy and got in line for surf dog waited 45mins and he then went to boo blasters while we hit up diamond back 10/10 we then meet my dad and brother meet at the front gate took him back to drop off spot. We went straight to Flight of Fear and rode it forgot how much fun and intense that ride was. 9.8/10. I then went to my very first haunt mysteria I found quite fun 8/10 we then went to flight deck( one of my favorites) super fun especially because you know how flight deck slows down half way up the lift hill so I decided to scare Aaron when it slowed down so I looked at him in horror and he looked so scared but it kept going and hit best he could during the ride being restrained and all. At the top of the hill I got an awesome view of the park super fun, fast, and intense ride.10.4/10 We then hit up Invertigo really fun 9/10. Then to Diamondback and beast night ride, we hit diamond back first 12/10 then went to holiday horror and was awesome 10/10 then for my final ride of the night a beast night ride 1,000,000,000/10.2 points

King Cobra entering the brake run was quite the acoustic experience when I was growing up. Especially in the queue!2 points

Ahh, the sounds of Kings Island...too much to choose from, but I'll try... Beast's "bada-bada-bada-bada-thud-bada-bada-bada-bada-thud..." as it approaches the first lift hill Vortex's lift chain, "woosh" as it goes around the track, and brakes Flight Deck's different-sounding yet similar "whoosh" and brakes Son of Beast's loud anti-rollbacks, which we shalt never hear again... Firehawk's high-pitched rollbacks that make it sound like the chain is going at 4X speed... Flight of Fear's launch Racer's anti-rollbacks and brakes, which are even better sounding when both trains are going at once Drop Tower & Invertigo's "Ka-Thunk" they make right before dropping That should about do it...2 points
-
That wasn't the chain, but rather the anti-rollbacks. And before about half of them were removed, it was even louder!2 points

^ Perhaps we should combine this thread with the scents thread and call it the Kings Island Sensory Extravaganza. After all, there are more senses than just hearing and smell.2 points

The laser sound effect that plays in the queue for Flight of Fear is my favorite. It gets stuck in my head all the time and I'd make it my text message sound if I had the sound file. The creepy moaning sound as you pass the Adventure Express entrance is memorable, too.2 points

As i stated in another topic, the sight in front of BLSC makes me sick, i enjoyed the rest of the haunt though. My wife did see some decorations they sell at our local Kroger store at the haunt that she thought was pretty funny. I like CPs better, but could go the other way with just a bit more effort.2 points

For some reason the speaker voice going up the second lift on The Beast repeating itself sticks out to me, "Please keep all........ with the occasional interuption of put all electronic devices away!2 points

I worked in the market research field and know how the retail store (mass/grocery/drug stores)deal with discounts and sale items in their market strategy. For instance, a grocery store place an ad and listed their canned vegetables on sale at $.25 cents per can. They expected sales to increase but they were not seeing the spike they thought were happen. Then they placed a big ad and listed them as 3/$1.00 and had a big sign in the canned good section with this. The shoppers flocked in and their sale was a huge success! The people perceived a sale, even though they paid more for the canned vegetables. They paid 33 cents instead of 25 cents. It is the same with BOGO sales, but that is another topic. Season passes are advertised to go up after October 28th and buy now and save. They could had listed it at $89.99 for the Gold pass and offered a renewal price of $79.99 for current pass holders. Their sales could had been less for this time period but by pricing the way they did increased their sale projection higher than if they didn't.2 points

For the price I pay for my season pass, I think the themeing is great. I am not really sure what everyone's expectations are here, but as I look over the past 8 years or so I have been going to KI in Octobers, the quality of theming and haunted attractions have really come a long way.2 points

Inspired by the recent "Kings Island Smells" topic, I have coined a new topic, about your favorite Kings Island sounds. On my list are: •Vortex and Son of Beast's anti rollback •Firehawk's brake release •Flight of Fear's launch •Drop Tower's hum and brakes •Whoosh of Delirium before it starts the cycle •Invertigo's cable lift1 point

I would like to go with CP passes next year even though its a longer drive, but if KI adds anything new that requires a 44 inch plus height requirement its back to KI. My 4 year old daughter somehow makes these decisions in my household and she loves Woodstock Express! She has a height chart she checks all the time to reach Diamondback, she's at 43 inches and the girl is already a coaster junky! I hope KI has big news for 2013,but if i were to guess its gonna be 2014? Im excited to hear what they will do next year1 point

The best time to come where it is not as crowded would be on Sunday. But if you wanted the Haunt experience, then come Friday or Saturday, but expect heavy crowds on Saturday.1 point

I would really like to see another launched coaster hit the park soon. Either that or another looper. When you put it into perspective, what rides have inversions? Invertigo, Flight of Fear, Firehawk, and Vortex. Not necessarily a wide variety.1 point

I don't like it. It brings to mind the story of Roosevelt and the bear. It's no fair to shoot a being that's basically stuck there. Paintballs towards human moving targets with no means of retaliation. Seems cowardly to me. Fear, dark, and guns, even paintball guns are not two great things that go great together.1 point

I too love the smell of wooden coasters...for some reason, it seems "stronger" on Beast than on Racer, or any of Holiday World's wooden coasters...perhaps because it's mixing with the natural smell of the trees in the woods, or something... And, of course, there is the smell of the food...ahh yes, smells so good...(McSalsa's Brain: NO MCSALSA! IT TOO EXPENSIVE AND WE BROUGHT FOOD IN THE CAR! NOOOO...oh fudge he's not listening...)...Mmm...well, there went $20...1 point

I have no idea what a "new" coaster train costs these days. I sure know they are more than likely a pretty big cost. It is just a fantasy to have new coaster trains.1 point

While I was scouraging around the youtube, I found actually walk-throughs of Soak City (meh, its still BB on the inside), and other walk-throughs of Kings Island as the sounds of Soak City and Kings Island.1 point

In no particular order: The Beast's (and Son of Beast's, and Firehawk's, and Diamondback's) lift hills The sound of both Racer trains running over the final anti-rollbacks and hitting the final brakes Various games employees spieling over their mics (which seems like it'd be a common theme park sound, but I've never noticed it anywhere else. Then again, I haven't been anywhere else nearly as much as KI, so maybe I've been too excited everywhere else to notice it.) Vortex's lift hill clanky noise The train whistle on Adventure Express, as well as the thunkthunk noise of its wheels running over the transfer track gap The screech of The Crypt's resistors* The preshow ambiance music of Tomb Raider: The Ride** The screams on Viking Fury Invertigo's rrrrrrrrrrrng-CHUNK when the train is released from the first lift Backlot Stunt Coaster's explosion The train whistle on KI&MVRR *I specifically name The Crypt and not Tomb Raider because I never noticed it when TR:TR was around. **The first time I ever rode TR:TR, there was some breakdown that resulted in our group being stuck in the preshow room for an hour and a half with the music constantly running. It was unanimous afterward that it had nonetheless been entirely worth the wait.1 point

The sound of people skiding and failing to go down the Coolang......erm Rendezvous Run The sound of the waves of Breakers Bay?? The sound of The Beast climbing up the lift hill The sounds of people saying the darnest things The sounds of BB1 talking about Boomerang Bay The sounds of the Diamondback flaring out of its first drop & many, many more1 point

Too many people do not put things into perspective. Do the math. The cost of a KI season pass, that includes parking. Then divide the cost vs. the amount if hours spent at the park. My cost for the whole family is less than $1/ hr. Where else can you get out of the house for that value? You can even go deeper. Figure out how many times you have visited the park, then multiply the ticket & parking cost. Now compare that value to the cost of your pass.1 point

I paid more than $55 for season pass parking at Great Adventure...four years ago!1 point

Am I the only one who thinks $79.99 is still to cheap? That costs less than a ticket for a one day trip to Universal Studios, Disney World, or Sea World, but this $79.99 allows you to go unlimited amount of times and have free parking to one of the best amusement parks around. It should be $99.99 (just my opinion. That may seem expensive, but what do I know? )1 point

I'll admit, this is a problem you'll find a lot of places. If you at one time had a membership or pass somewhere, you're likely to get a mailer asking you to come back in, promising that you'll get a free something or a discount something as thanks for ending your period of inactivity. Meanwhile, those who've stuck around from the beginning aren't rewarded - why should they be, financial wizards would say: they'll stay with or without an incentive! However, $79.99 for unlimited visits, unlimited free parking, unlimited Halloween Haunt, and Fun Perks is a fantastic deal. Six payments of $13.33 is the same deal, but spectacularly accessible to families who might not be able to invest up front. I almost guarantee you'll see a renewal discount once the regular pass arrives and the Gold Pass gets its annual price boost. But for now, you're talking about rock bottom pricing to begin with, and you can still redeem Fun Perks for the rest of the season, right? Sounds like enough incentive to me.1 point

You would have hated The Beast's lake, which often smelled of vomit. But seriously, I have always loved the smell of wood and axle grease as well.1 point
