I cannot put into words the terrible gut feeling I had after reading the topic title. I really prepared myself for really bad news, something depressing, or, at a minimum, something very sad on the same scale of a pet goldfish dying. Then the RUSH feeling of relief came over me after seeing what it was all about.8 points

I remember, on the long drives down here from Michigan, when getting closer to Mason, asking my mom if every single, stupid red, glowing light was the Kings Island tower.5 points

It is surreal to see this ride coming down. I remember watching avidly the ride get built the summer of 1999. To think it is coming down so quickly and ungracefully. Hopefully good things will be in store for that location in the coming years.5 points

First hill, rose bowl, helix are still there. Still a long way to go. Fine. "On its way to being almost gone." It's a matter of perspective. I've no intention of misinforming anyone; I just see things from the perspective of knowing how "fast" (precious) time really goes by. For example, when Diamondback was going up, and the first lift hill came into view, I could already feel the anticipation of riding it the following season, because I see things that are in progress as being very close to completion in my fast-burning sense of time. It feels like yesterday; it's been four years. I could slow down a bit and savour the moment (cue "Time Stand Still" by Rush), but like I said earlier this season, in 20 years we'll look back on SOB's removal and laugh -- not because of the reasons it's being removed (certainly no laughing matter), but at the amazement of how much will have changed by then.4 points

Such a great deal of expectation and excitement abounded when this thing was under construction. Now, in late October, we see it being torn apart and brought down to the ground --almost gone. Son of Beast joins the growing toll of signature attractions that have come and gone, while the venerable, tried-and-true Racer, Beast, Vortex and Adventure Express roll on.3 points

I went to Haunt Saturday as well, but mostly went in the mazes with friends. (This was my first time in ANY of the mazes, by the way.) We only went in five mazes, and they are ranked from most to least frightening. 1. Wolf Pack - They fit all of that into a rollercoaster station?!? Neato. Plus, the actors made me scream. Bonus points! 2. Madame Fatale's Cavern of Terror - Really loved the new idea of a wax museum haunt. Kept me guesing. Only complaint was that to me, the Crypt theming in the queue didn't exactly fit. 3. Tombstone Terror-Tory - Zombie cowboys/westerners? Don't know about that. 4. Slaughter House - Great actors, but juust a little too gory for me. Plus, my experience was hindered by a group of 10-year olds behind us who kept cussing out the scare actors. 5. CornStalkers - Simply didn't scare me as much as some of the other mazes. The walking actors were great as well. One lady jumped out behind a gravestone and yelled at a fellow teen who happened to be texting. He started running, and my friends and I couldn't control our laughter. Great night!3 points

Really? Were all of King Cobra's? No. Were The Bat's? No. Were Steel Phantom's? No. Were Laser Loops? No. Will ALL of Son of Beast's be? That remains to be seen.2 points

The Youbatube is down all together. So perhaps that has something to do with it? Usually if there are copy right issues the music is just muted.2 points

Is the glass half full or half empty Is SOB half demolished or half constructed? Like a kid in the back seat of the family car, "are we there yet?" as they just pulled out of the drive way.2 points

No mention of the great price that Dick Kinzel and his then Board suggested holders sell their units to Apollo for? The price he, with a straight face, asserted was a fair deal? Gee.2 points

If International Street was to never change, and instead be permanently stuck as it was in 1972, there'd be no International Restaurant and the park's entrance would be a single-story building. There'd also immensely smaller restrooms, no International Showplace or Kings Island Theater (well, not the one we're used to), and the floral date would not yet exist. As has been said, change is inevitable and is a great thing.2 points
-
Not to mention that International Street has changed dramatically over the years, from the removal of the curbs to the differences in the areas bordering the fountain itself. The area looks far different than it did in 1972. The shops also look less festive and are far less international than they once were. Even the Eiffel Tower is different. I miss the much darker, nearly olive green.2 points

There was a shorter guy walking on stilts around AZ, and I stood next to him. He turned around and noticed that I was as tall as him. When I get the picture from my friend, I'll show you all. All 3 shows were great! Also, the leaf camoflauged guy by DB hid behind a tree next to Rivertown Junction, and sent a girl to the ground by simply saying a robotic "Boop!" He was great, as well as the guy at the front. "Can I help you...into a coffin? Bahahah!" "Take a picture...it will last longer than YOU!"2 points

These pics did not bring a tear to my eye.... It is sad that its being tore down. But we all knew it was coming to this...2 points

There will be new rumors for the "future park expansion" in 2013. I can just see it now: a new member on here posts a topic about how they heard about a 666 ft. tall, 12-inversion Intamin coaster coming to KI in 2014 named Devil.2 points

All parks have master plans. Sometime, however, those plans can be quite fluid, and what is spelled out in a master plan ends up not being what actually gets built. Technology, tastes, economics, marketing, the target market all have impacts on influencing what the finished product looks like. Would the original buildings of Kings Island could have imagined what the park would look like today? Probably not. There was no such thing as a hyper coaster when they were planning the park. Not to mention coasters powered by linear induction motors. Water parks were not very prevalent, and certainly didn`t have the range of water slides that they have today. The park is constantly changing and evolving. It will be a different place five years from now than what it is today. Enjoy the park today, remember the past, but don`t hold onto it as if the past is the end all. Memories often are seen through rose colored glasses at times. Times change. Would I love to see the Sky Ride back at Kings Island? Absolutely. Same goes for classic rides like the Whip, Flying Eagles and Tumble Bug. But those rides aren`t going to be coming back. I am positive that the park will look different in the future and that a whole new generation of people will fall in love with the place, just like we have.2 points

International Street has been slowly changing and evolving the last few seasons. You may not have realized it. The park has removed some of the trees and planters and put in more tables and sitting areas. I still would like to see a nice new lighting package incorporated into the Royal Fountain, to play off the lighting for the Eiffel Tower. I would agree that the front entrance could use some sprucing up. Not necessarily a brand new entrance building, but a major renovation to the entrance would be nice to freshen it up a bit.2 points

Would you also want Beast, Flight of Fear, Diamondback, etc., gone? Change is inevitable. The park that doesn't change eventually shuts. Forever.2 points

I made a lady cry in terror Saturday night while taking a break from the CHAINSAW by going through one of the rooms at slaughter house singing "just keep swimming" and made another person drop to the ground by doing a pop scare saying "pop tart"2 points

they paved paradise & put up a parking lot... Or condos. Or a shopping center. Kings Island lives on. Would that we could say the same for Americana, Geauga Lake, Euclid Beach, Whalom Park, Libertyland, Williams Grove, Miracle Strip, Pavilion, Joyland of Kansas, Riverview, Palisades Park, and on and on..... Terpy. Context. Context. Context.1 point

Yes. The music itself is out of copyright, but modern performances are certainly not. Symphony performances are often complex, as royalties may be due to each performing member. Arrangements of classical pieces for modern orchestras are also protected by copyright. Getting copyright clearances on a classical performance usually isn't an easy task.1 point

^ You can only use the music if the copyright owner(s) have given permission to Google. In this case, ads will be placed on your video with the commission going to the music studio. Some music studios don't have such an agreement for YouTube videos. In these cases, the soundtrack and/or the entire video is pulled.1 point

Anyone else find the happy, upbeat tempo of the background music unintentionally hilarious? I feel like Greg Scheid and Don Helbig are dancing a celebratory waltz somewhere in the background.1 point

My guess for the "renaming" is Raging Rapids. While not a "premier" ride, I think it's fair to call it a "major ride". Plus, it's the only dry ride who's name and logo are not really themed to the area. In the water park, my guess the "the Wave" (pool), for the same reasons. Based on my track record with guessing Holiday World announcements, you can be certain it won't be those. ;^)1 point

I agree that Coney has to improve or stagnation will rear it's ugly head. I was at the Firework Competition and I bet there was 30,000 people in attendance. CI has the ability to draw large crowds from southeast Oh and northern Ky. However, it is going to have to expand in a timely fashion or be taken over by River Downs. I don't think the current owner is interested in improving the park, but just to maintain the status quo, which is sad. CI has the potential to be so much more. pilotank1 point

I'd have to disagree with little or no return on investment. Similar to Cedar Point's Luminosity or Six Flags' Glow-in-the-Park parades, fireworks encourage guests to stay at the park into the night and potentially spend more money on food, games, merchandise, etc.1 point
