  1. Photo #9 - Coney Mall 1974 My favorite part about this picture are the ginkgo trees that were replanted from Coney Island and the old ladies licking ice cream.
  2. Think of all the money you would save!
  3. Racer, the biggest and flagship coaster in the park, almost always had very long lines. The queues were often full, with lines spilling out into the midway. When Beast opened, it often had multi-hour lines.
  4. I don't see how threatening to never shop at and/or protest a sporting goods store chain because a lone store poked fun at an overrated quarterback (through which he did indeed spend more time beside the field rather than on it, and even then more blame should be put on Sanchez and Rex Ryan) is the same thing as threatening to never eat at and/or protest a restaurant because the C.O.O. openly opposes same-sex marriage/LGBT rights (through which the fight to make it legal has been through hell and back, and seen them victimized, assaulted and bullied to the point of suicide).
  5. KD really likes one train op. They won't run a second unless there's a line.
  6. He was thinking,"Great,im getting my picture taken while breaking probation".
  7. Ah, Surf Cincinnati's go cart track. That place was sweet!

I suspect the city's help would come in the form of tax breaks. Nothing more, nothing less. They want it there along with the financial benefit. The tax money they would make off hotel rooms and people willing to stay in Louisville to visit the park would far outweigh what the park would pay in taxes. I doubt they are offering up any kind of assistance, unless its more pressure on the state to do something, anything, just get on with it.

I believe it was the exit which was relocated. The entrance has remained the same since 1972 but the exit was moved from the right side facing the entrance to the left in the early 90's.
  10. I like the trees, but the concrete paths I do not like. Much better with pavers.
  11. That's an awesome photos of the old ladies licking ice cream. Was I supposed to see anything else?
  12. I love the old look of the mall and wish more than anything that they would at least recreate one or two sections where new sculpted gingkos would be planted. I had high hopes that this would be the case when management updated the mall in 2011 :/
  13. I think that would be perfect. Being the only Peanuts character with a signature visual effect, I don't think he'd lose recognizability in its absence. Of course I wouldn't put it past some of the ingenious costume designers to engineer some kind of nearly-invisible, springy wires holding up arcs of gray, fabric-coated "dust billows" that bounce randomly about the character as he/she walks about.
  14. If you are thinking of going opening weekend, don't. I went two years ago and I swear nothing in the park was really ready to operate. Most coasters only had 1 train op, with BLSC being the one that had it the worst. I liked and didn't like the park at the same time. It felt weird since KI is my home park, but some of the rides were a little bit better.
  15. I went in the first week of June. Try Tues, Wed, or Thurs. We went on a Tues, Wed. Went to the back of the park on day two, hopefully to get an early ride on Volcano. It and other rides towards the back of the park didn't open until 11:00. Volcano, BLSC and Flight of Fear.
  16. I second Terp. Busch Gardens Williamsburg is a fantastic park with a great collection of rides, not to mention the fantastic landscaping, theming...pretty much what The Interpreter said. Snowman, take lots of pictures and tell us about your experiences!
  17. You'd have to get me drunk...really drunk, to agree to jump 14 busses on a motorcycle!
  18. Photo #8 - Evel Knievel Bus Jump
  19. Took me five minutes to realize "Nevermore" wasn't a reference to The Raven (coaster or poem). This site has me reading between the lines too much!
  20. Sorry for changing the subject seemingly randomly, but I always enjoy the people who complain about prices in the park. First off, with the addition of Hank's Nachos, a skinny non-health conscious person like myself can finally get a reasonably large plate of food in the park for around $5. Because of this, I did not leave KI to eat this past season as I have always done in seasons past. But I guess I get that normal people don't view a plate of nachos as a meal. But with the drink wristbands, the cost of drinks have DEFINITELY gone down for folks like me who like soda (or any other fountain drink available). And second, they should be thankful I'm not running the park. When I play RCT, I charge $35 to get into the park, AND every ride is an upcharge. And my people don't complain. Or rather, they stop once I introduce them to Mr. Lake (:<
  21. Sigh. I thought this was going to be about legumes.
  22. http://www.insideindianabusiness.com/newsitem.asp?ID=57333 I'm a little surprised someone not with the last name of Koch is in the CEO's seat, but I agree that Matt's probably the best one for the job if Dan wants to return to his lawyering. The times I've seen him in the park, he's been just as enthusiastic and warm as the rest of the Koch family.
  23. We get a new show in the Festhaus, presumably replacing American Country as that show has run it's typical 2-year run. @KingsIslandPR I'll keep my personal thoughts out of this, mostly because they look like this
  24. It looks like they replaced the full article with an excerpt. It was there when I clicked the link earlier. It's an AP article, so it's easy enough to find another copy. http://www.businessweek.com/ap/2013-01-09/ohio-theme-parks-ceo-staycations-here-to-stay
  25. Am I missing something? When I click the link the story only goes to like three paragraphs. Is that the whole thing? I don't see anything about Kings Island on his radar.
  26. Ah, Surf Cincinnati's go cart track. That place was sweet! I still remember picking up all of the "speed" by coming over the bridge and going down in the turn... it was awesome!
  27. Well there are some people who do truly believe in certain ideals. They make choices of where there money is spent. For people who truly believe in same sex marriage they would rather spend money at places that support same sex marriage. Everyone has "a hill to die on" and you just have not found yours yet. If a restaurant stated that they are raising money to campaign to put children with special needs in special homes where no one would see them, then I would never eat there. Again its all about the hill to die on...
  28. I hope Rerun might make an appearance in years to come.
  29. That would be Darlene or Karen, they are both very funny to get to know.
  30. ^I was just saying that many people said they would never eat at Chick-Fil-A again because of it, even fans of it. I mean, I eat at Chick Fil A for good food, I don't care what they believe in. I just want good food....
  31. There were lines for sure.
  32. Its funny, over my 20 something visits in 2012 i never seen the most interesting Kings Island whatever you call him dude. Not a knock,i just kept my eye open and never seen him? The lady who rides DB over and over gets my vote,i cant remember her name but i think she has a twin sister?I rode a few times with her and she loves her DB and Beast!
  33. I was expecting Pigpen to be part of the first line up. He's pretty popular, but I wonder how they would do the cloud around him, or would they even bother? The characters always look well cleaned, I wonder if they would just stitch some etch marks on his face and clothes to represent Schultz's inking of dirt?
  34. If I had hundreds of acres of woods in my backyard I'd choose The Beast. That would be epic to have a terrain coaster like that. Realistically, I would own The Great Pumpkin Coaster as it would fit in my backyard...hey, that would still be pretty cool.
  35. ^BGW also has some of the best food as well.
  36. This isn't Orwellian. No one is forcing them to wear the wristbands when they leave the park. Hell, no one will be forcing them to wear them IN the park either. If they don't want to use the system, they don't have to.
  37. Its been gone for about 15 years. Good old Malibu. I loved going there. I remember when I set the track record one year. I mostly went for the arcade though.
  38. Not my namesake but it's my standby. The other answer is KIC. Duh!
  39. JayZ reference there at the end, Birdy, or am I in too deep?
  40. I said "Nevermore" somewhere around 2000-2001. I broke that vow in 2004 when I went with someone who had not been to CP since the '60s. I told him about my vow, but he convinced me to ride with him. We both got off with headaches, and I quickly reinstated the vow. I remember reading people's Facebook posts from opening day 2011, and how they said it was much better. As the year went on, people said it had gotten a little rougher then it was opening day, but still not as bad as it was before. Nevertheless, I have stuck with my vow and haven't ridden it since that day in 2004. You know that old saying, "Fool me once..." I'm fine without it, since there are plenty of other rides at CP to occupy my time.
  41. Glad they came up with a good name. It would have been silly if they had called it a Slime Jeffery. Yes, I know what a Derrick is.
  42. So this isn't Kings Island related but there was this controvsery about Dick's Sporting Goods recently. I see tons of comments with tons of likes saying "Never shopping at Dick's again." WHY do people do this? Am I abnormal or something? Just because one store does this (and it's just a joke, and I think it's funny), you people won't ever shop at Dick's again? Remember that pathetic Chick Fil A controversy? Just like it. I shop at places because I want to buy things, and one little thing like this won't keep me from shopping from there. If Target started selling jerseys that said, "Teblow" I would still shop there...

In 1982, I was working Reds games at Riverfront Stadium and one of the players, Cesar Cedeno, took himself out of the game in the fourth inning, claiming to be sick. I arrived at the park that evening around 6:00pm and got in line for The Racer and right in front of me is Cedeno with a couple of his friends. It was a Saturday night and the wait time was about 45 minutes, so I was able to chat with him a bit and learned that he liked amusement parks and roller coasters. When I asked him about leaving the game because he was sick, he said he was sick. Sick of new Reds manager Russ Nixon, who had taken over for John McNamara a few weeks earlier.
  44. Now this isn't a bad complaint at all. But, my question is, was this supposed to be his character, like in all the other Haunts? (all the other people yell at me, for fun). He was a total DB the night we were there. I just chalked it up to being part of his "Act". Real Pirates weren't exactly nice people. Diamond Back? JK, I knew what you meant!
  45. The no re-entry rule has been in effect since the beginning of FearFest. I have very fond memories of the "No Rentry" A-frame signs we had at the gate, and of turning people away during the event. -Gator, PKI Admissions 1995-2004
  46. So I was correct when I said it has always been a rule for the haunt.
