At what point do they close an amusement park because some one died riding a ride they love? The performers at these shows know the consiquenses of what they do, and they do it because they love to do it. They love to perform, they love the addrenalen rush, and they love to fly. Most of all they would not want a show cancled because of an accident. Also, the International Council of Air Shows ( http://www.airshows.aero/ ) regulates and licenses all the performers, only the best get to perform. As for this particular air show, it is one of the oldest in the nation and has one of the best safety records. In the past 40 years only two fatal accidents (3 performers and no spectators) that's a pretty good record. Air shows in general are hurting because of cut backs, no military teams are in the air or on the ground for static display. This is an industry on its own, you can't just shut it down because some one was killed or injured, for one the economic impact, and second (and most important) the people involved who dearly love what they do, and do it to teach, inspire, and to fufill dreams, not just there own but of every dreamer who dreams of flying. Yes it is worth it, and it is very important that they fly on Sunday, if not for the Dayton aviation community, then for my dear friend Charlie.6 points

Now. But that's a recent change. The red and yellow, though it has a strong association with Wendy's, first brings titan McDonald's to my mind.5 points

Many air shows, if not all, have been affected by the economy. A very larg number of them have been cancled this year because of the cut backs, especially the ones that relied on the military jet teams to draw people in. The F-22 could add close to six to eight thousand spectators alone at an air show like Dayton, even more at some of the other shows. The Dayton show has survived on two things, history and determination. The last big major show they had was in 2003 for the 100th annaversary of powered flight, at that show they had the Thunderbirds, Blue Angles, and the Canadian Snow Birds. The show was packed with so many static displays that people were sitting under and on them because of the lack of room. Since then the show has had to fight and even change dates just to get a major jet team, some years they even tried to go without one. To be honest though, I think this show will survive, good or bad economy, I think it will survive because of two brothers that had a dream of man being able to fly with the birds. They passed this dream on to others who passed it on. This isn't a job for the performers, it's a quest to fulfil a dream, it's a passion to teach others that a dream is only that until you do some thing about it. I know Charlie from when he was flying his extra 300 at shows, he was fun to watch and a very skilled pilot, I did not know Jane but if she was working with Charlie then she must have been the same.4 points

....and we'll have FUN FUN FUN 'til her daddy takes the T-Bird away. Then will she walk, look, and drive like an ace? Or will she scream like a Banshee?4 points

I feel that for once this thread has actually become sensible. Why? We're not speculating - we're simply asking "who knows?"3 points

If that were the case, the people smart enough to use all that time would have already been in the future riding the new attraction. ...That was a really bad time traveler's joke (hopefully last Friday's Time Travel Committee meeting will get into a discussion about the proper timing of jokes). It was either that, or I'd ask those with too much time on their hands to share it with the rest of us so we can have our turn at the condo (even worse timeshare humor).3 points

Or maybe, just maybe hold on, he was just emphasizing that Congo Falls has a drop and splash as part of its ride elements. Jimminy cricket, I made be onto something.3 points

I believe the man she was engaged to was one of her pilots. Such a sad thing. There are no true words than can be said that can mark the taking of a life while doing a hobby/sport you enjoy. Such a sad moment. And whats frightening to me, was that the moment before the accident, she was (probably) happy and stressed about hitting her marks... I get that sometimes its difficult with youngins. My child is 5 weeks old. I wouldnt take him to the air show for him just because hes 5 weeks old. But when he gets older we will be going (as long as its still around). How did we survive is a great question...3 points

I didn't go for economic reasons this year, if that helps. The place it's held wasn't designed for a parade of people attending a show. Parking is sometimes difficult, you ride a bus, you carry your chairs and supplies with you, and it's usually on the hottest days of the year. I'm ready for that, but I suspect a family of four, one in a stroller, might have a tougher time than a couple. My parents always took us, but this was at a time when kids were outside more, and had more natural strength to take on the day. There seems to be more to fear these days, the heat, the direct sunlight, etc.. I don't know how you and I lived through our childhoods. It is cool to see a horde of families picnicking under the wings of a B52, though. It has a beautiful symbolism.3 points

Wendy's is not using the yellow cups for the Frosty Malts any more. They are using clear cups with clear dome tops on them, but UDF should rename their product to avoid confusion.3 points

These performers love it/live for it. Sort of like people who live to work with animals. You cant just cancel something because of an accident. As long as people dream of being these pilots/working with animals, and there are people willing to go to these shows, then these shows will continue...3 points

I'm partial to the Thunderbirds, for no particular reason. I do love the air show. I particularly love going around and looking at the aircraft. Once, looking at a Huey, the airman standing by asked if I wanted to sit in it, "It's yours." So I sat in it, because it's mine. I can't think of Vectron canceling air shows, or any any other venue canceling air shows. This is how the pilots make money doing what they love to do. To null their livelihood would be awful.3 points

Most people would probably assume you'd use the whole wave pool too. Typical, how do you screw this event up? It's not rocket science, especially when your competition across the street did it for years and you stole the idea.3 points

Top Gun/Flight Deck was the first ride I ever chickened out on. Parents and I waited for what felt like 4 hours in line. And then the 7 year old version of me chickened out at the last minute and hung out in the little caged area on the other side of the que. Now, its a mainstay on my ride to do list. Just a fun ride and when it swings out, man of man. And to be honest, that drop in the front car is the best for me. Back in the campground days, the family and I camped right in the shadow of then Top Gun. My pants caught on fire from a burning marshmallow, and then the storm rolled in. What a storm. I remember hearing the lightening crack multiple times and believe I saw it hit the ride a few times. I even swear, as do my family, that around 2-3 in the morning (during the main part of the storm) the lift hill turned on and off. This happened on and off during the storm. We all believed the lift hill had turned on and off with the lightening strikes. Now that Im older (almost 20 years older) I wonder can that actually happen? Can a lightening strike turn on a lift hill?2 points

I was at the Dayton Air Show several years ago when the T-Birds performed. They showcased their military flying skills in their high performance fighter jets. They performed the various flying maneuvers that the military pilots use when flying in combat. The stunt flyers are performing the same stunts that the "barn burners" performed in the early days of aviation. The likes of Jimmy Dolittle and others went from airport to airport showcasing their skills and promoting aviation in its infancy to what it is today. From what I heard, the plane lost lift in its wing due to a dropping airspeed but the final answer won't come until the NTSB conducts their investigation.2 points

Honestly, part of me wants a campground. That would open up the gate to weekend customers who can't or won't stay at the local motel/hotels, it would be a great little vacation. I love to camp, my family loves to camp. A weekend camping trip to KI, in a package deal, would bring customers who would spend the money they saved from hotel fees into the park. That and the Doggie Day Care. I could camp for the weekend, have three and a half days at the park, and my dog would be safe, visiting Ed Alonzo's ducks. Win win for me.2 points

I think it also give the impression of the park not being maintained. If they are not maintaining the light show are they maintaining the rides? I know the rides are maintained but what does the GP think?2 points
