I thought it said "O'Terpy"' too.I can only think of that episode of Blackadder where he calls his Scottish cousin with red hair and even more wiry brows to battle a duel for him. Does Terpy have cantankerous lookalike relatives with a red Afro? Sorry to pull this one up from this morning. That definitely says "O'Terpy." The grave on the left says, "O'Suhr" which is a play on my name. This is a total hat-tilt to KIC, so I wanted to make sure you guys saw it for sure. Maybe a way to thank you for helping to Decode the new ride.18 points

I officially cannot keep up with this thread. One last post and I'll sit back and watch until the 8th. And then try to keep up with the new ride's dedicated thread. All I can say is this: what you are in the midst of is a time that does not come around every day (much less every year) for what you consider your home park. Up here at Cedar Point, it had been awhile since we had the fun of guessing, hinting, etc. with Gatekeeper's arrival. It's Christmas eve at your park, and it's the "big present" you've been waiting for. So be excellent to each other...and enjoy the moment. What a great time to be a fan of Kings Island.14 points

FYI... Stengel is the one that insisted KI build SOB over 200 feet. KI just wanted a looping woodie... Stengel kept insisting "bigger, taller!" Stengel never rode SOB. P.S. I am jealous my name isn't on a tombstone! LOL... Actually the longer it takes to have my epitath enscribed on ANY stone the better! Anyways, I don't fit the theme... I'm Scottish. Ha ha!11 points

This thread has over 504,000 views (and counting) which is absolutely crazy/insane/really, really awesome! Random but can the mods see how many of those views come from logged-in members, guests, links to this thread via google (or other search), etc? BTW @kingsislandpr also tweeted: Pretty cool "shout out" and mention by the park, and it's good to see the park and this site are in good standing10 points

Dennis Spiegel was assistant GM of the park a long, long, long time ago. He is in no way affiliated with it any longer. He has his own company called International Theme Park Services ("ITPS") which is a consultant group. I recommend subscribing to their daily e-newsletter. It's excellent. Dennis, as you may recall, also saw the blueprints for DB and speculated a dive coaster. Likely. The company-wide capex is public record, and there's no damage done by announcing how much an investment for an individual park would cost. They did it for Diamondback. Plus, "this new $20-something million dollar investment" has an excellent ring to it in the newspapers.10 points

I feel bad for the park no matter whether it's real or fake. A lot of hard work and effort goes into planning such things. I think it stinks that someone -although incognito - who made NONE of the decisions is getting attention and glory. The Executive Team at a park works long hours to provide exciting things for their guests. In the Marketing world, this *could be* the equivelant of someone blowing out the candles on YOUR birthday. That having been said, if it turns out the plans are accurate, then I think the placement of the lift/1st element is perfection! It would appear the *possible* coaster *may* drop off the lift and turn right above where the entrance to Adventure Express is (directly across from the Beir Garden.) Imagine the visuals... both on and off. Great photo ops! But no matter if these are real or fake... I applaud KI for finally filling the eyesore void left from the vacated KC land. I've been annoyed by that blank spot between Slingshot/Delirium/Go Karts for years! As far as the naysayers. Be very careful about pre-passing judgement on anything in life... including coasters. I've learned the hard way that criticizing something of which I'm not intimately (Or INTAMINLY... as the case may be...) familiar just makes me look like a darn fool in the long run. Statements such as "It should have been this", "I wont ride it", "It's not what I wanted" or "this would have better if it were this type of coaster" simply demonstrates a lack of forsight, narrowmindedness and immaturity. Thank God we have people like the Cedar Fair execs that are continuing the long-standing tradition of making KI such a great park. In the past 5 years, I've gotten a tinge of "the old days." Many of you didn't get to experience the early days. In the first 20+ years, the installs fit KI to a "T". Unfortunately the park lost it's direction for a while (IMO) so I am ecstatic to see it returning to it's roots of providing thrills for seekers of all levels and rides of substance and worth.10 points

I am just in awe at the interaction with this site and the good people at Kings Island. Sometimes as big time enthusiast we know most of the improvements are for the GP but it is so great to see that our love for one of the best parks in this country is acknowledged from time to time. Even though it isn't my name that is up there seeing names of great members of this site listed for the public to see just makes me proud to be associated with KIC. Thanks to all involved!9 points

SoB's failure was not really due to the push for world records. It was due to a series of bad management decisions and poor construction. A state inspector in 2009 placed the blame on park management (http://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/200911/1529/). This old article from The Enquirer also shows how bad things were handled: http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2000/11/23/loc_kings_island_sues.html (that was published just 7 months after the coaster opened).8 points

The leak video plays perfectly into the overall job of the PR department: Build up anticipation and buzz for the announcement. The layout, however detailed, is really but a small piece of the overall announcement, especially where the GP is concerned. The only recent leak that has really spoiled an announcement, IMO, was Maverick's full artwork, schematics, and specs leaking out a day or so ahead of the announcement. Now THAT was a spoiler!7 points

Okay, I'm slowly working my way through this topic, chipping away at the mountain of posts, but I just had to comment on this one! That guy looks very familiar... like a certain person from this site. I seem to recall seeing him somewhere before... (And the book was okay. Not the best he's ever read, but certainly not the worst. It did keep his attention though). As to why he was reading during Gatekeeper Media Day: The "big boy" seats are not consistent though. My first time riding Gatekeeper (row 4, right side, on the end), the ride op got me on with just a little bit of effort. After a quick bite to eat, I went to row 4 on the left side, on the end, and the girl wouldn't even attempt to get me in. I tried again a few hours later, left side row 4 on the end again. DaveStroem tried to get me in, and there was still about an inch left before the belt would meet the latch. A few hours after that, I once again went to row 4, right side, on the end, and it took quite a bit of effort from Beast Man and sheikra_rocks, but they got me in. If I had know from the start that the trains were different colors, or where the train numbers could be found, I would have noted what train I got the first time. From what I could tell, GK's big boy seats were really no different than Wild Eagle's regular seats (which don't have designated big boy seats). Sometimes I fit them, sometimes I didn't. But when I WAS able to ride, it's a very good ride. The keyholes are great, as is the roll past the towers on the way back. After one ride and then a walk of shame 15 minutes later, I decided to take a break. I had planned ahead, even before Mrs. Gator asked me "What are you going to do all day if you don't fit?", and brought a couple books to keep myself busy while my friends rode GK, Raptor (which I don't fit) and Millie (which I don't fit either). It was a nice sunny day and I enjoyed myself, even if I did only ride two times, and I got to spend that day (and the next) with good friends! Alright, back to the old posts. I made it to page 111 after reading until 3:00 last night. I think I might skip ahead to this week's posts, then go back to 111.7 points

That's a whole lot of text to admit you were wrong about your B&M Giga prediction Shaggy. Well, it's not official yet... but if the blueprints are proven true... half right ;-) That's the good thing about predictions - they can be inaccurate... but they're not harmful to those doing the actual work.7 points

The other day a squirrel jumped out of a Dino's mouth as soon as he opened it! It was hilarious and some lady jumped about 2 feet! Guess you had to be there though! I forgot what Dino it was, darn it. Anyways, it had several of us cracking up. EDIT: I think it was the Allosaurus?7 points

What i am having trouble understanding is why would this particular coaster cost so much? Lets just say it is an invert. Why so much more of a price tag than other inverts around the world? It could be very long. We don't know for sure 100%. Of course, the cost of steel goes up every year. Plus anything else that we have not yet decoded. Yeah i never thought about the price of steel. I dont care what the footers look like or what codes were on the tags, in my opinion, no one will know till announcement. I think the price tag will come from something that blows all of our minds and is something we didnt see coming.7 points

My video is done. About the name, I'm sure this has been said before, but Banshee would make perfect sense as it is announcing the death of SOB.7 points

Mr. Spiegel also famously guessed that Diamondback's transfer track footings were indicative of a vertical loop, and that it would be a Dive coaster.7 points

Defunct or not, it was still an extremely historic coaster. Historic for all the wrong reasons. KI is wise to distance themselves from any SoB association with the new ride. This is why it will most likely be from B&M who has a great track record of uptime & safety as opposed to Intamin. Imagine if KI did go with Intamin & the ride had to be "modified" a la: WT, Maverick or I-305 or have considerable downtime a la: TTD, KK, or WT? Park goers will immediately mention SoB in the confusion. Yes. Worlds tallest, fastest, and only looping wooden coaster is all the wrong reasons...you make no sence You mean sense? Yes, SoB had many notible "-est's" and a loop. It was also those same "-est's" that proved to be SoB's downfall from day one. Now the ride, along with those records are history. Included in that history is: the amount of money spent to "fix" it, the amount of downtime, and the amount of injuries the ride caused. No park wants to associated with that.6 points

Do you mean in general, or right now? Designers build what the parks want. If a park calls B&M up and says, "We want this, this, and this, in an inverted coaster and only have X amount of room, can you do it?" B&M's response would likely be, "Our Batman model fits that description." If a park calls B&M and asks for a stand up, they will build it. Inverts are terrible..they are a 90's ride...only a moron in charge would spend $30 mil on one...if the lift hill goes through the loop, that is the definition of a gimmick... every Intamin is better than this ride they are building and it is not even debatable for a park that doesn't have a full circuit invert, and is looking to replace a record breaking coaster, with another record breaking coaster, its a no brainer... And your right there are plenty of intanims that will probably give a better thrill than this coaster, but that's only when Those intanim coasters are operating. I highlighted parts of these two statements that I wanted to comment on. "Only when those Intamin coasters are operating." - Exactly. I agree 100% This is exactly why Kings Island SHOULD NOT build an Intamin. They experience a significant amount of downtime, compare to B&M. When Diamondback was closed for 2 weeks last season, it wasn't mechanical, it was structural. It was also the longest time since Diamondback has been installed that it had significant downtime, that I recall. It comes down to reliability. King's Island is going to build a reliable coaster. B&M's are proven more reliable than Intamin. "They are a 90's ride" - Saying inverted coasters are a 90's ride or is outdated would be like saying wooden coasters are old and outdated, so parks should not build them. "Definition of gimmick" - 300+ ft or 400+ plus ft is not a gimmick? "every Intamin is better than this ride they are building and it is not even debatable." - Have you ridden EVERY intamin? I personally have not, and out of 170 coasters that I have ridden, only 28 are B&M. (Raptor is my least favorite out of all of them.) You need to back up your statement here with facts. I can back up that I have ridden enough Intamins to know the reliability sucks. "only a moron in charge would spend $30 mil on one" - I am just going to withdraw my next statement..... took me 37 posts to write this! Time to read backwards!6 points

I gotta say it's been an interesting evening reading this thread. I definitely think the blueprint is legitimate. I went to school for drafting, and there's nothing I can see about it that would make me think otherwise. The only thing I'll add is that if you look really closely at the video and follow the course of the track, you'll see where part of the track is directly above a footer between the helixes. To me, that means the track is inverted at that point, since the support would be directly under the track. Assuming this is indeed an invert, I think we're looking at another zero-g right before the final helix. That would take the number of inversions to 7. Anyway, I saw this on Coasterbuzz, and wanted to post a link to it. Pay attention to Lord Gonchar's post at timestamp 10:53. Click the link that says "There's your Banshee".5 points
