  1. No changes are benig made to the Adventure Express queue. It has not been "ripped up".

  2. Adventure Express becomes...GARDEN EXPRESS in 2014! Rocket past fields of man-eating roses and tulips, and careen through arches overflowing with bloodthirsty azaleas, before a heartstopping finale with a gang of tribal dandelions and the evil Venus Fly Trap God who pours a vat of scalding weed killer! ....seriously, though. Wouldn't that be awesome to have a coaster set up like a cross between Honey, I Shrunk The Kids and a horror version of the flower scene from Alice in Wonderland?

  3. Not much. Only International Street, Oktoberfest, Rivertown, and half of then Hanna-Barbera Land was open. The Carousel was the only attraction not in Hanna-Barbera Land to be open during Winterfest. At the beginning of the night there would be an opening ceremony where the mayor of the Christmas town (I-Street) would invite a family to light up the Eiffel Tower tree. The Paramount Theater held Santa's Toy Factory, arguably the best production the park has ever created. There was a Christmas music revue inside Festhaus where a circular stage was set up in the middle of the restaurant and featured live sax music. Bubba Gump's got some nice yuletide decorations, including a reindeer crossing sign that stayed up for a good two and a half years because it was in a fairly decently hidden spot. The Paramount Story was a makeshift Christmas tree sale/meet-and-greet involving the Nickelodeon characters. Swan Lake had a light show involving a barge with five trees and featured a pyrotechnic finale; the barge would later remain tucked in the back of the lake until Diamondback construction began late 2007. Rivertown's other main attraction was the Holiday Express, where a WWII vet hopped on board to make a trip back to his family while singing along the way. Giant postcards were set up along the train route. Because of ongoing construction for Nickelodeon Universe, the back section of Hanna-Barbera Land and the entirety of the former Nick Central was closed off and most of the forested area was already demolished. The Hanna-Barbera Store became a Toy Factory/mini Nick Store, selling Christmas and Nickelodeon knickknacks. Top Cat's Taxi Jam, HB Carousel, and Scooby's Haunted Castle were the only attractions open in the area. As the last big Winterfest attraction, there was a Christmas parade that had brand new floats made rather than repurpose floats from the Nick Celebration Parade. Because of Coney Mall not being open, the parade route, which normally went past the Airbrush Shop behind Viking Fury and straight into Coney, was changed to circle the Eiffel Tower, go past the Carousel, and head down towards Swan Lake and through Rivertown, where the floats would then be stored behind Tomb Raider. FUN FACTS: With the cancellation of Winterfest 2006, the floats from the parade were relocated to Knott's Berry Farm for their Christmas festivities. Most of the Christmas decorations were repurposed into a single-year scare zone called Holiday Horror for the final FearFest (the "zone" would come back five years later as a full-blown maze with other holidays thrown in); a few props made their way to the Psycho Path and Massacre Manor houses. The concrete ramp used to get guests down to the fountain for ice skating still stands and is still used quite often by the maintenance crews. The footings for the giant postcards from Holiday Express are still visible. The giant Christmas light at the top of the Eiffel Tower tree, which was the Paramount logo, would later be bought and used by the owners of EnterTrainment Junction as part of an outdoor mural.

  4. ^^ I remember in the sand box we would build Volcanoes, no joke. It was like a serious operation, there was this kid, Chris, we elected him the head architect of the project( we called it something else back then). There were different levels of jobs. There was the gathers, which is what I was typically stuck with. They would gather sand from the sides of the sand box where it was wet and nice for building. Then there were Storers, they would gather "bad" sand that was dry and unusable and push it under the bezel on the sides of the sandbox, where the gather had just cleaned out the "good" sand. Then there were builders they would put the sand down and pack it to keep it nice and tall and structurally sound. Then the most daring job. The stealers(boo). They would sneak over to the girls Sandbox and grab as much "good" sand from there storage, and in the process probably destroy what ever there project was at the time. Good times, good times. EDIT: WOW, Nathan, eleven sentences depicting the social pyramid of your preschool sandbox projects...

  5. if one of the designers from B&M were on here and explained why that first loop is the way it is......I GUARANTEE you that 99.9% of the people interested in that would be saying "huh?!" and scratching their heads.....the physics, kinetic energy, design, weight distribution, distance speed etc.....not to mention all the series of equations it takes to make a coaster work like it does....you aren't going to understand unless you are a specialized mechanical engineer. this goes WAY beyond those little lessons they teach you in your high school calculus and trig classes that use a rollercoaster as one of their problems....its 100 times more involved than that. And if some of you diehards still wanna see why......just go down to the city planning and zoning department for where Kings Island is......and ask to view the plans......its a matter of public record so they will have to show them to you.....just be prepared......a steel coaster set of construction documents (blueprints) can be at LEAST 2 feet in diameter when rolled up! And if you want to see plans for a woody.....ive seen some that are in EXCESS of 2000 drawings....and these are large 30x42 inch sheets EACH........just saying.........oh, how do I know this.....im an architectural designer.....and back in school I went to magic mountain and went to view plans for a couple of their coasters...that's how I know..............

  6. LOLZ...I was checking the thrill rides page of VisitKingsIsland.com, and found this... Thrill RidesYear after year, the best thrills the world has to offer are at Kings Island. Year after year, the best thrills keep getting better. Speed junkies can get their fix on the new Banshee - the longest inverted roller coaster in the world. Challenge The Beast - the longest wooden roller coaster in the world - and Diamondback. There's also The Bat, Delirium, Drop Tower, Delirium, Invertigo, The Racer and Vortex. The thrills never seem to end at Kings Island. I bolded it to make it stand out, LOL.

  7. Really not sure what you're talking about. There is no specialty in mechanical engineering for roller coaster design. Trust me, I've looked. I AM one of those mechanical engineer folk. Also, the calculus and trig you learn in high school is not irrelevant in engineering. In fact, they both play major parts in engineering. The calculus is where B&M would be getting their equations from. Everything else involving mechanical engineering they're doing, save for any dynamic analysis of structures, the lift, or the brakes, would be algebra. Even the stress analysis is algebra. Where do we start learning that, again? The posters here aren't incompetent, and I think you're over mystifying the whole thing.

  8. . well im not saying you don't have to use a little finesse...you do. but anything that is being built for public use reguardless of the state must be available to the public for viewing......they may (and probably will) make u go thru some kind of red tape B.S......that's just how they are for some reason......I just have experience knowing how to get what I want.....and its not always easy.Incorrect. Completely. Totally. You cannot get what was not filed. I don't care how much finesse you use. Ohio is not California. Terp, who said that once already.

  11. Wow. I can assure you that not all things that are built in the State of Ohio are a matter of public record. And as the Interpreter said, the differences between California and Ohio are pretty dramatic. Not to mention that California has strict guidelines for seismic regulations. And I am positive that more than just foundation plans were filed for Banshee`s station. You have to get a building permit for structures that are going to be occupied with people. Its a matter of the health, safety and welfare of the people using the structure (referred to by most State Architect Registration boards as HSW). All buildings have to meet these HSW requirements and it is those requirements that the building codes are protecting. I have been in the architecture industry working full time now for nearly four full years. I know a little bit about what I speak of.

  15. What's required to be filed in the State of California is far, far different than what is required to be filed in Ohio. Don't expect to see the same level of detail publicly filed in Ohio. It isn't.

  18. Before electric devices were used for such signals, wooden balls would hang from 'high' above the track. (Lanterns were used at night.) These balls would tell whether it was clear to proceed. This was an alternate method to using live humans, flags, revolving disc thingies that swung out over the track, or any other engineering devices.

  19. EDIT: Transferred this post to the Action Zone Retheme thread where it probably belongs. I'd lobby for something simple and eerie like "The Woods." It would require lots of concrete torn up and lots of trees planted, but Alton Towers did it when they turned Ug Land in the Dark Forest for Thirteen. What's more, they did some very simple things (besides planting LOTS of trees) to make it happen. Rita: Queen of Speed is an Intamin launched coaster with roughly the same theme as Top Thrill. To become part of the Dark Forest, they dulled the paint colors and put creeping vines across the "racing" station and renamed it simply "Rita." Then the race car trains were re-themed as old antique cars. Something just as simple as gloomy paint and a few creeping vines would bring Invertigo into the Woods very easily. The Station: The Trains: The Entrance: So by just amplifying the greenery, dulling paint colors, and having vines crawl across existing shops, they turned a generic area land into Dark Forest. It's just that easy! And wouldn't you know, The Woods would make a great home for a new dark ride... (Or in my dreams, a Verbolten or DarKastle.)

  24. I'm guessing your guessing correctly, lol. It is a bad habit I guess, but being from around these parts, when someone says "the track" it is assumed Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the destination. We get bronze badges every year, and I usually just take my vacation at that time and go to the track everyday. We also camp there from Thursday-Race day. The spectacle of speed is something I became hooked on at a young age. Even now, after all the time I've spent at those hallowed grounds, when I go through the tunnel from 16th street, the reverence of the place is overwhelming.

  26. It's actually Stunt Grill during the summer months. In my opinion, it will probably see a lot of business next year with the opening of Banshee. Thankfully, the park just got an executive chef, so hopefully, Stunt Crew's food improves greatly. Of course, assuming it still retains its title next season.

  29. Excuse you? No one is complaining, I was pointing it out and wondering "WHY?" Besides, one can CLEARLY see by looking at the horizontal support, that it is wider. I think since B&M is my favorite maker, and having ridden 41 of the 90 in the world, 13 of which are inverted, I would know. Don't argue with me about B&M. 1. Notice "complaining" was in quotes. I didn't know how to properly state it. Nit-pick, point out every detail that's different, whatever... what I meant is it's always something being brought up about how this is different or that is different and how someone doesn't like this or that, and it's kind of getting annoying.... We're getting a new coaster that's first of its kind to KI, offers several elements that no other coaster at Kings Island has.... and I hear people point out this, and that, and this isn't the same as other B&M inverts... and I am just like is it really that important? 2. I am not arguing. It seems you chose to take my post in a rather hostile manner when that's not at all how I wrote it nor intended it to be read. Chill. 3. I am not arguing with you about B&M nor do I care to. I don't care how many B&Ms you've ridden, or how that's relevant. My point is this: Why is anyone on this forum still comparing Banshee to other B&Ms and questioning measurements, layouts, etc.?? Is it really that important that certain features be cookie cutter duplicates of features on other B&Ms?? Why can't we just trust that everyone behind the design, manufacturing, and building of this coaster know what they are doing and are doing things for a reason? We are getting a brand new really awesome roller coaster that has a lot to offer and has a lot of features that no other coasters at Kings Island has!!! Is it really all that important if the loop is wider?? That's all I meant, that's all I mean, that's all I'm saying. I never got an attitude with you, don't have one now, so there is no need for you to be so hostile towards me. This is a enthusiast discussion board. It really shouldn't be strange that we are nit-picking details about Banshee considering this thread is centered around the construction of Banshee and the elements we look forward to in the spring. We are bound to make comparisons and inquiries about the ride, and how it may improve upon its predecessors. That's the fun of it all when there is construction downtime! Not trying to fuel a fire, just a piece of my perspective with this thread!

  30. I never realized how much of an Adventure Express purist/fanboy I am until I read this and was unnecessarily miffed. I guess this would explain the weird tree removal around the beginning of the queue (namely, between the queue and that service road.) Just don't get rid of that plaque mounted on the rock beside the entrance! (I love every inch of that ride. Seriously.) I continue to wonder if Slingshot's on its way out. The path by Adventure Express/Slingshot tends to crowd easily. I wouldn't complain if it were a bit wider at the expense of Slingshot; the views of Banshee would be improved.

  36. Recently I saw on Pointbuzz that Emily, daugher of Cedar Point Live Entertainment Production Manager Dan Deming, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Promises for Emile is a way for you to donate money to cover medical and travel expenses for her treatment. Here's the website where you can donate: http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/promises-for-emily/105006 I can't even imagine what that family must be going through right now, so please try and help them in any way you can. I'm sure that any little amount would be appreciated, and since this terrible diagnosis involves a family working in the amusement park industry I felt it would be approprate to post about this here. Again, my thoughts and prayers go out to Emily's family and for her to have a quick, safe recovery.

  40. As I have said before and will say again. Location, Location, Location. HRP failed mainly because of Location and Price. KK failed once and I am doubting their future success. Ironic the though of relocating a ride or rides from a park that failed to a newish park that has failed and is more than likely to fail again. There is a reason that new theme parks aren't appearing every year and no if you build it they will not always come.

  41. To be perfect honest with you, I HIGHLY doubt it. CJ is a pretty big crane, I don't think it would be practical to use such a crane, I bet it would be harder to do so also. Ah that's a good point. Didn't think about that, thank you. I appreciate it. I'd love to see AE get revamped. Maybe kind of like Knott's Log Flume revamp? As long as they keep the base theme with the revamp I'd be happy. But I'd also be open to something new. But I think I'd also rather get a new dark ride before getting a AE revamp. Just my own opinions.

  48. It makes it easier to retheme now, but considering it was themed as a backlot area, it's kind of a shame that they couldn't have fit the Backlot Stunt Coaster in the Action Zone area as it would have fit in perfectly with the theme.
