Just a little humor on my part but, here goes nothing: On August 9th, 2013 KI: Kids, B&M and I are having another baby. We are naming her Banshee. Now Diamondback, don't be jealous when everyone wants to see her first instead of you. Your now approaching 6 years old. Your growing up so fast, but mommy and I felt the need to have one more. DB: But daddy.....for the last few years I was the attractable one, everyone wanted to see me. KI: Your going to have to learn how to share. She's a new, special addition to the family DB: Fine.... Wait a minute....If little sister Banshee is a new, special addition to the family, then what was I? KI: You were a much needed addition to the family, two years before you came along, I adopted your older sister Firehawk. Mommy and I decided we wanted to start over, and that's how we created you. Then after you, DB, came your distant cousin WindSeeker, Your Uncle DT's son. DB: So... You're telling me my sister is going to be better than me? KI: Noo! She's just new, so she's going to have the spotlight. Once again, just a little humor17 points

I'll be here 9 years in June and I've thought about rage quitting a few times myself. I'm getting tired of the things some enthusiasts think they are entitled to.14 points

Some of us of a certain age feel the exact same way about the sound of a wood coaster chainlift. Some particularly about Son of Beast's. Arrow chainlifts, especially Top Gun aka Flight Deck aka The Bat, The Bat, Vortex.... Some about the sound of Rolling Thunder's wheels happily spinning on the brake run-/the train lifted up off the track by the skid brakes...12 points

I am very careful with my capitalization and honestly don't think I'll ever be terp'd. Speaking of capitalization, the precedent seems to be that "Terp'd" is capitalized. Checkmate.9 points

While I'm more than happy to cooperate with whatever Kings Island requests of us, they do seem to have been requesting a lot lately.9 points

Funny how his service to our country was reported, which while great, has zero to do with riding, and his safety was not mentioned once.9 points

I had one terrible, grease ball of a weekend... but when I got up this morning, and saw the news that testing had begun: I tossed that weekend right out the door! Thank you Kings Island for entertaining me and brightening my day, even during the offseason! And thank you Devarious, that was an awesome and highly informational post!9 points

Of course his Military Service is being hyped up, what else do you expect from Faux News? Perceived Injustice towards Soldiers and Christians is just their thing. No one told him that there would be any rides that he could not ride? That should have went without say.8 points

That probably is meant for the on ride camera, and then the magnetic systems has to do that brakes that is uses.8 points

I have a relative allergic to peanuts. First thing that is always asked when at a restaurant: do you use peanut oil and is there a possibility the food has come in contact with peanuts? Why is this relevant? When you have a condition that has special restrictions, you know where & when to ask questions relating to your condition.8 points

Speaking of the Education Day program that Kings Island provides... It reminds me of my experience with that when I was in my physics class... It was "Formal Friday".6 points

The thing I look forward to the most when riding this fantastic coaster is how close my feet will come to the ground, and me being 6'-4" with longer legs then most means my feet will be closer to the ground on the low points.....and even though I am sure my feet will still be a few feet from the ground it sure won't seem like it when your riding.6 points

Here's a few ideas: -Put a Ferris Wheel in the location now occupied by the Action Theatre. The place has seen better days, and Kings Island doesn't have a Ferris Wheel. How is this? - Get our old/a new set of Flyers for the old Flight Commander spot. I know how much we all enjoy the DA Party Patio, but life is about making sacrifices. - Build some kind of water ride in place of KIC's favorite box over in Rivertown. (Get it? A water ride in Rivertown? There used to be some back there. A nice lake, too.) You know, a nice water ride where you're not soaked by a large trundled mammal. Or any mammal for that matter. - Update and/or overhaul Boo Blasters. It's time for a nice, quality, non- shoot 'em up style dark ride. Whether or not this is a "haunted house" or not doesn't really matter. - Do something with the thematic elements of our beloved train. I don't think we'll ever see a show again, but I can't imagine a little sprucing up would be all that difficult. Make the train more than just a mode of transportation. It deserves much better. This ones a little crazier and doesn't fall under the category of "ride," but what the hell: Complety overhaul International Street and Octoberfest. Give International Steet it's international back. I mean, geez. Look at it. It's a pathetic shell of what it once was or what it could be. Make it like a mini version of the World Showcase at Epcot. Bring in different foods, shops, etc. And for the love of what ever diety you subscribe to, change the soundtrack. Get the International Restaurant up to par with current saftey and disability regulations and USE it. We have seen how well our first sit down joint worked, so this seems like a no brainer to me. High quality food, speciality drinks, excellent service, you name it. Yea, it'll be pricey, but it would be a worthwhile experience. Same goes for Oktoberfest. Bring some German flair back to the area. The Festhaus needs and overhaul in every sense of the word. Take the Hofbrahaus (spelling?) in Newport. That place is packed. The food is great and the atmosphere is even better. Its a blast. Bring something like that to the park. Make the day memorable. In short, make Oktoberfest German. It could be a wonderfully unique experience instead of a few rides and food you can get elsewhere in the park. All of these attractions all contribute to that concept of "the best day of the summer." Why? Because its something that the whole family could enjoy, and that is something that Kings Island is lacking if you want my opinion. What's my grandpa going to do if I take him to the park? As of now, not a whole lot. That should change. If it seems like I'm being critical, I guess it because I am. It's only because I'm passionate about the park.6 points

I was forced into a wheel chair a few years ago. Walking from the parking lot to the rental was rough. I was not permanently disabled, so I did not have a placard to park in handicapped parking. By the time we walked to the rental place, I was exhausted and in far more pain than I expected. The scariest ride at Kings Island will forever be my daughter pushing me around in a wheel chair. They're making it out to be terrible for the park Ride SOP states must have one functioning arm and leg. He is a bilat AKA, he clearly does not meet the ride requirements. Park gave him right to stay and enjoy the rides he can ride, and then comped him tickets for a future visit. Later publicly the park gave a press release and is getting into contact to refund his purchase. They have done everything right, nothing wrong. Honestly he's all worked up over a very crappy poorly maintained boomerang. But this had the possibility to be a repeat of Darien lake where another bilat AKA rode a ride and was ejected and died.5 points

Kings Dominion's International Street is getting a lot of TLC this season, along with a fountain upgrade. I'm sure it's on the list of things to do for Kings Island. It is probably a long, ever evolving, list, though.5 points

Great sound up close. Not as loud as some other B&M's though unfortunately but still way too awesome. Why do coasters have to be nice and not be as loud and obnoxious as they want. See Hulk/Kumba/Montu Or even Dragster, just..obnoxious4 points

For those that think the sound is the ride "jackhammering" you're completely mistaken.. Jackhammering on Diamondback was a real thing, especially more evident the further back on the train you sat. On the ride it started getting vibrations that were worse and worse on the ride and noticeably different on different trains. You would notice these vibrations usually at the bottom of hills or in between the transitions. As a prior ride op to me, it was the sign of worn wheel. Being towards the end of the season I doubt they were concerned with throwing sets of nice new wheels to be used only for a few weekends. I expect Diamondback to be a great ride as per usual at the beginning of this season. The ride is fresh, maintenance has been done, and the ride will be functioning practically as if it was brand new (albeit she needs a pretty new paintjob but ah well ). The wheels yes are u grooved wheels. This allows it to stay in contact with the track more. However nylon/poly wheels wear down. So here's a picture of U grooved wheels, albeit an idler wheel and not a road wheel. Think of that inside area wearing down more and more. Even though the wheel assemblies are spring loaded to keep them pressed into the track, when the wear isn't uniform across the wheel or spots develop where the wheel can separate from the assembly, theres your vibrations. This is all what I was taught by my ride supervisors and a few maint. friends. I'm guessing this is all correct. If anything is wrong please don't be afraid to jump in and correct a minor issue The sound you hear is the anti rollback devices hitting the chassis/fully extending from the bottom of the ride. In zero g/transitions/etc. they move, they aren't fixed in place. If you never knew, the sound you hear on every lift hill isn't the chain. That sound is the anti rollbacks Here is a picture of one up close, from an Arrow train. Here is a shot of the Anti Rollbacks/Chain Dogs on a B&M train, Sheikra The four outside sections are the anti rollbacks and the large inner piece is the chain dog (grabs a link of the coaster track to get pushed up the lift hill) Anti rollbacks engaged This is Diamondbacks hill. See the chain in the middle. The chain dog will engage the links by resting on the back of one and getting pushed up. To the right is the anti rollbacks..That slides into the spaces and sits against the back of one to keep it from going backwards on the lift and to stay in place in the event of a stop as pictured above. When you hear the clack clack sound, especially on an Arrow or any wooden coaster, this is produced from that. This is also the jagged tooth design you see going up the lift hill. It is used so if the chain dog (object that connects to the chain links), the coaster will sit on the anti rollbacks in that same spot. Also in the event that a chain dog becomes unattached, these keep it from running down the lift hill. Think of these as anchors in the event of a train stopping or coming off of the chain/chain break/etc. So here is a picture, notice it's in a down position right now, however to get over the jagged teeth on thelift hill these devices have to be able to go up and down. So when g forces are applied to the train or lack threof, these things can move around and make noise. Last thing too, you have the sound of it going over the track, yes the track on B&M's is butter smooth but there are times when you can hear the wheels hit the next bit of track, it's just there. To never hear that sound it has to be once piece of track or just welded together perfectly with no imperfections. To further prove a point, here are videos of a few rides with that same sound. Notice these are opening day, and all these rides gave butter smooth rides, can't say it had this problem then. This sound has always been there, that's not the issue. It will always be there and theres no way to remove it. The jackhammering itself though as explained above, that is/was a maintenance issue, and that hopefully has been corrected for 2014 opening day. Diamondback opening day. Yes the sound is a little more prevalent but that's to be expected after years of use/wear. Think those anti rollbacks have been used for thousands of cycles, they'll loosen up a bit. But the sound is there if you know what to listen for. Even with it being brand new and butter smooth track and sand filled rails, you can still hear it on Gatekeeper in the zero g/barrel roll elements over the front gate especially.4 points
