  2. I get text message notifications whenever Kings Island PR posts a tweet for the purpose of "Tweet-Ups" and I had a lump go in my throat when I saw a tweet come across saying "A popular attraction is leaving the park a week from today". I clicked on the link and it was talking about the freaking noodle. I thought it was going to be SRR, thankfully it wasn't because I would of been very mad.

  4. Heard from a guy I work with on base that hit the parks up this weekend, said many during National Anthem just walked right on by.. As before, that REALLY grinds my gears.

  6. My first tpr...excuse the wordiness. My coaster buddy M&M Productions and I left my house at 4 am on 6/28 for our first time back to KD and BGW in over 7 years. The last time we went both of us were disappointed by the fact that we didn't fit on anything...more on this later. We arrived at our hotel in Ashland at 11:00 am....surprisingly fast in my opinion. Now a word about the hotel...Bad bad bad hotel...We stayed at Motel 6 in Ashland. The room was stinking and the light switch did not work. There were shorts in about all of the plugs and at night there was zero path lighting or stairwell lighting. It was not a safe atmosphere at all. We did not receive any maid service and I had to ask for towels after hours. The lobby was locked and the attendant was on the phone when I went into the enclosure. I told him we had no maid service and needed towels. He went into the back room....a half hour later he came out with one towel and a hand towel. I would have left, but the fees were non refundable...now I know why. Won't be staying there again. Anyways, on day one, we arrived at the park around 11:30. That weekend was KD's a festival like Spirit Song (it wasn't Joyfest). We expected a crowd and it was crowded. So we walked around for a while and decided to ride Ricochet . The last time we were there we couldn't get the restraints down two clicks...voila! We were able to get them set. The ride was rather fun. So we tried our luck with the Hurler. No problem there and we both fit, however, the quick hard banking to the right reset my spine and I thought I would be in pain all day, but that quickly went away...needless to say we didn't ride that one again. We then rode Rebel Yell. It is similar to The Racer but noticeably smaller....but it was very smooth. After riding this we headed over to Drop Tower. Here they have a test seat. We were both disappointed that we could not get the restraint locked. So we counted Volcano out as another ride we couldn't ride. So we walked dejectedly to Bad Apple (our version is Shake Rattle and Roll). Fun ride. It seemed a longer cycle but the operator was hysterical. When the ride was over he said push up on your lap bars...of course they were pushing and he was giving them a hard time by telling them try over and over. Eventually he released the locks everyone on the ride and in the line was giggling and having fun. We decided to have lunch so we check several places and prices are identical with King's Island. We finally settled for a cheeseburger at the Hungry Hippo in Safari Village. It was a burger bar with fixins. I was rather good. Plus there was unlimited drinks too. We stepped out and M&M said "Let's ride I305....Now, none of you know this but I, Upstop, am actually terrified of heights...ironic eh? I had just eaten this meal and now I was being asked to drop 305 feet. I was going to get over my fear with this trip but was not expecting to do this right off The Bat....so I reluctantly said "ok", but only if we can ride somewhere near the front....(this is an actual habit of mine when riding new-to-me coasters). So we came around the corner and lo and behold...there was a test seat. Secretly I was hoping that I wouldn't fit...I know, crazy right? I fit...so true to my word to ride I entered the line with M&M. Believe it or not, even with the crowd we walked right to the platform. We took our place in the second seat (front seat was around a half hour wait). So we were sitting there in the second seat and then "Gentlemen start your engines" and off we went up the super fast and super steep lift hill. I felt the hamburger rising and falling in my throat as we went up the hill. then we crested...down we went. I305 is one of the most exhilarating rides I've ever ridden. The only thing that was a drawback was that in the directional transitions, you are thrown into the air and to the right. Both times I slammed my collar bone on the restrain. I'm still bruised a week later. Other than that, I highly recommend this ride for speed junkies (94 mph)...It's fast fast fast! After this we headed towards Avalanche, and as we were passing Volcano, we noticed that Avalanche was temporarily down. We started to turn away when I noticed and told M&M..."hey, volcano now has a test seat...lets just settle this and give it a test." M&M was reluctant and didn't want to be let down again so I said "I'll go first". I fit....YAY!!! I told him to get on the test seat and he said "I won't fit" He got on the seat and by pushing it down a quarter of an inch he fit. We were like two little kids ready to do cartwheels. We rushed up the ramp and into the cave...and...the queue was full. As we waited, some people became impatient and left the line complaining it was too long. The entire queue is about half of Diamondbacks upper queue. I looked at M&M and said "They think these lines are long, they should try Kings Island". In the end the ride launch was incredible! If only KI had something like this...wowwy! After riding this we decided to head over to Boo Hill. What a neat ride. I like the laser beams better. At least you can see where you are aiming. I won...with two guns...LOL. We then headed over to Dominator. This was a tight fit for both of us. The tightest at KD, but what an exciting ride...a little rough but very speedy. We took a water break and went to the cooler in the car. It was beginning to get dark so we went back into the park to end the day. As we were walking near the tower, I mentioned "Hey, since we fit on Volcano, do you think we can fit on Drop Tower?" I convinced M&M that hey, if we have to do the walk of shame, so be it...I don't know anybody there..let's give it a try. WE FIT! The test seat is way off what is on the ride. Once I was locked in I thought, well here goes nothing. I just rode a roller coaster 305 feet high. there is no reason I can't drop 272 feet. I have to say it is a very different experience. I have ridden the Drop Tower at KI in the past. At KD it seems much, much faster. I'm guessing because it carries more weight and has less drag on it. We walked up the central walkway to look at Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular. I like how they used ground lighting to shine up into the trees instead of Christmas lights. It was really nice. After this we decided to call it a day and went back to the roach motel. Day two began with an early arrival at the park. We parked in row G3 right next to the kennel. We hit all of the rides from the previous day and decided to hit attractions that we didn't make. We rode the Crypt...wow it was intense. I think I was in the restraint more than the seat on this one. We rode Avalanche, a strange but fun rollercoaster. We also rode Flight of Fear, same as ours except they have a permanent haunt in the building queue line. We went across the park and rode Shenandoah Lumber Company. At the exit, I spent a couple of dollars soaking riders...fun! We then went to Dinosaurs Alive (got to love the platinum pass). At one point we were looking around and didn't even notice the giant dinosaur we just walked under...it was well hidden. We then rode Grizzly....what a fun ride! I remember it being so rough but it looks like a lot has been replaced with new lumber. We again rode Rebel Yell. Then we rode Drop Tower again. There was a guy in front of M&M who was talking smack to his friends who all chickened out and left the line...but when the carriage started up he freaked out. I couldn't help but laugh...We hadn't even passed the breaks and he was so worked up. I thought he was going to pass out. We rode I305 from the front car...it's interesting to have air injected into your nose from moving so fast. I felt it go deep into my lungs. We then spent some time on the tower and then had a chicken sandwich followed by a blue ice cream...funny thing...it's not blueberry...it's just blue....go figure. We rode BLSC and then Anaconda. BTW, BLSC still has the splashdown and sprays when the car passes the drop, but most of the other effects are minimal....no flames here either. Later on as it was getting dark we rode the Scrambler and headed to I305. The line had grown to a full queue but still took about 20 minutes to get on the ride. We rode in the back car. Wow what a different ride at night...there are no lights anywhere! It was very exciting...I cannot wait to get my weight down to where I can fit on Millennium. It was almost closing time so we decided to try Volcano one last time. There were only four queues in the main house. When we were rounding the final queue, the fireworks went off. Volcano paused during the fireworks so we only got to see over the queue fence. However, since this was our last ride at KD for this year, we rode from the front....WOO HOO!!!!! (somewhere near the turn around a skunk got spooked and sprayed....and it was strong) it is totally different at night, flying through the dark and up through the Volcano...and then it was over.... Day three. We travelled to Williamsburg. As we were arriving at the motel, the local news on the radio talked of a bomb scare that temporarily closed down the England area on Sunday...we were hoping that this wouldn't affect our visit for that Monday and it didn't. At Busch Gardens Williamsburg our platinum pass got us premium parking! We parked right outside of the main gate and entered. The first thing we did was to go to the London Rocks show. Wow...Busch Gardens can really put on a show. There was actually a standing ovation at the end of the performance plus they used textured projection for set changes...it was like psychedelic, man....then we headed to Apollo's Chariot. It's very scenic....sorry guys. I like it better than Diamondback. We then headed over the bridge to Verbolten...what a neatly themed ride and it was very fun. We rode it many times and we only got the Spirit theme once, and then pretty much evenly for wolves and storm. The drop is surprisingly scary in the dark. Word of warning, if you ride in the very back, prepare for whiplash as you drop over the small hill and are launched out of the second tunnel. We then rode Mach Tower. It has a loud drop, but since it is on a hill side, you appear to be much higher than you really are. It's a fun drop, but you slow down about half way down the tower. By now it was lunch time so we went to Festhouse. I was so excited to have my favorite sandwich...The Alpine....I was shocked to see the Alpine was not on the menu...Then I noticed the Mile High sandwich...It was the same thing with a different name...I guess they didn't renew the copyright for the name. We then rode Dark Castle. It is one of the best of it's type for simulator/dark rides. The little splash of water at the end is welcome for a very hot day, but exiting the building, you could feel the heat streaming into the door...just like opening an oven. We then rode Alpengheist. M&M was in the large seat and I buckled into the seat next to him. The attendant came by and pushed down the restraint and then asked me to exit to wait for the next train and put me in the large seat. I got the seat locked so I'm not sure why this happened. It was a bit rougher than I remembered. Onwards to Griffon. What a rush! I love that ride. We took an airconditioning break and rode Europe in the Air. It was nice for a break. Next we went to Loch Ness Monster, It was a tight fit for two big guys, but it was very enjoyable. We finally finished the day by riding Escape from Pompeii then we did several cycles on Apollo's Chariot. Day four we arrived at the park at the crack of dawn and rode everything twice. We added the Turkish Delight, Trade Winds, Le Scoot, and Le Catapult. We also rode Davinci's Cradle...a very interesting ride, Davinci's Flying Machine and The Battering Ram. We rode the train from Italy to Canada and the skyride from Germany to Scottland. We ate at the La Cucina all you can eat pizza buffet for $12.99. Overall, Busch Gardens is is the most beautiful park next to Disneyland. Now that M&M and I have platinum passes for Busch, there is a reason to go to HalloScreams in Tampa this year...Yay I can't wait. Right now however, I came home from Virginia with a cold that knocked me out all day yesterday and part of today. I hope to get over this soon so I can enjoy me some KI....LOL Peace out ya'll.

  7. So as many of you might have heard, I went to Carowinds on July 5th. Let me just say first off, I had LOTS of fun. We arrived at the park around 9:45 so we would have time to put sunscreen on and enter the park right at 10. When we got there, the first thing I noticed was their main entry gate. It is themed like some type of colonial county home. I can't really describe it but I liked it, I thought that it made the park seem more "welcoming" I guess. So our first ride was on Nighthawk with a 5 minute wait for the back row. Let me just say WOW. This coaster exceeded my expectations. I have never ridden a Vekoma Flying Dutchman model but let me just say that this coaster was especially thrilling (maybe it is because it is over water?) I give this ride an 8/10. Next up was a walk on ride in row 6 of Afterburn. This B&M inverted coaster was a great mix of zero g's, heavy positve g's and crazy inversions all in one. This was probably my favorite ride of the day. 8.5/10. Now we were planning on riding Thunder Road (which is like The Racer) but it seemed to be down so we walked on over to Carolina Goldrusher. This little ride is actually quite fun considering it was the first coaster at the park. My brother and I rode it around 5 times over the course of the day just for a nice break from being flipped upside down and tossed around. 6/10. We then chose to eat at Chickie's & Pete's Sports Grill. My whole family (4 people) shared a pizza and two small buckets of crab fries which was more than enough to fill us up. The crab fries were absolutely out of this world. They had the perfect amount of seasoning and flavor to blow me out of the water. The pizza on the other hand, wasn't so good. But I expected that from amusement park pizza so it really doesn't matter. Now we decided to trot over to Carolina Cyclone. This is a neat little Arrow looper with a simple layout and a crazy color problem going on. 6.5/10. Now onto Hurler. I actually liked this ride despite all of the hate it has recieved. The trick is to "lean into the turns" and you will be fine. We rode this ride about 3 times in a row. I give it a 7/10. After this we were planning on riding Afterburn again but it was closed for some reason so we went over to Intimidator. This ride was a great airtime producer with an awesome helix at the end. 8/10. After Intimidator we rode Afterburn. This time we got back seat so we were tossed around for a great ride. Then we went over to Thunder Road or "Tunda Rod" as my brother liked to call it. They weren't running the South Carolina side for some reason so the line for front row was twice as long as usual. This ride was probably the roughest ride all day but I guess that awesome wooden coaster airtime comes at a price. 7.5/10. I rode Afterburn front seat for the last ride of the day. It was pretty cool but I still think I liked the back more. Overall, I had a great time on a day where the water park was more crowded that the main park. Coaster Count: Intimidator:1 Afterburn:3 Carolina Goldrusher:4 Thunder Road:3 Hurler:3 Nighthawk:1 Carolina Cyclone:2.

  9. Racer gets good air time as well and is a woodie. If I am in need of some mega air time I'll just head over to Diamondback. As some others have said, the park needs to be focusing on fixing some of the issues with certain rides this off-season (Adventure Express, Backlot Stunt Coaster, etc). They currently have a good set of rides and I'm sure Cedar Fair is pleased with the return Banshee is currently pulling in and therefore will probably not be focused on new rides for at least the 2015 season. Adventure Express and BLSC with their full SFX is a winner to me.

  10. Heard from a friend who is the park today, the entire last car is tied off at Flight of Fear. So capacity has gone from 20 riders per train to only 16 per train. I think we know now why it's no longer a Fast Lane ride!

  13. I was only there for a few hours but had a great time! I was with my dad and my two friends from my neighborhood, both are 11. who had never been to the park before. We started with Diamondback and the line was at the bottom of the stairs and they loved their first roller coaster. Next we went to The Beast for an EXTREMELY PAINFUL RIDE. There was no line but we were still being assigned seats and we had to sit in the back. We went to BLSC which was both of their favorite. Matthew and my dad went to ride WindSeeker while me and Will went through Dinosaurs Alive. We were going to ride FoF but it was a 90 minute wait. The Racer was a 10 minute wait and we rode in the back on Blue. Adventure Express was fun in the front. Will didn't want to ride Banshee but Matthew did so he just crossed over when we got there. Matthew LOVED the back. It's so fast and it's my favorite. We went out to the car for lunch and then rode Congo Falls. Will and my dad saw Cirque Imagine while me and Matthew rode Drop Tower and Banshee 2 more times. After that we all met up and went to The Bat which Will was scared to ride. We rode Ride For Your Life Charlie Brown which I hadn't ridden in 6 years. I was sitting in the front by myself and on the first little hill I slipped to my left and fell out of my seat and into the side of the Log Flume. I got back up and had a death grip on the bar the rest of the ride. We next went to WWC and got drenched. We dried off at The Beast and waited about 40 minutes. We left after that because it started getting more crowded. It was a FUN day.

  14. People who chew dip on roller coasters and spit it out on the ride. Hit my friend right in the face. He was furious about it. Ride Ops who try to get the most capacity within an hour and rush you, it's just plain rude. Banshee Ops are really good at this. Photographers at the front gate. People who bounce basket balls, especially on wooden floors. KI workers who look like they hate their job. At least say hello or have a good day when I give you my pass to let me into the park. And many others.

  17. I feel like Holiday World has been trying to isolate themselves from the industry and be so "family friendly" that it has kinda backfired on the park when it comes to bringing in enthusiast families that would make multiple visits a year/buy season passes. I mean they haven't really done much to draw families of enthusiasts back to the park except through Holliwood Nights, which often is a one visit to the park a year because there isn't much to excite those families. The Mayflower was added this year....how many parks in a 5 hour radius already has a swinging ship? While it may draw local families, families from out of state aren't going to rush over to ride it and may not be worth multiple trips back. Add the lack of exciting rides being installed in the park, just look at how the legal battles have made several on this site say they wouldn't be back to Holiday World for a while. They isolated themselves from the industry by adding free sunscreen and soda a while ago as well as cleanliness but they make jabs at other parks in blogs and what not. It's a mixed view of marketing. It can be good but can also be detrimental to be seen as a park that is down on Kings Island for putting up a fence for safety. They also do teasers a lot different from other parks. Theirs are typically only web based or social media, which creates a larger audience but think about if they were to do less online, more in park....they may attract more guests. I don't know I'm rambling at this point. Off to bed to get ready for tomorrow. Hopefully you all can decipher the points I was trying to make. 18. The experience, as a whole, was a lot of fun for Dinos After Dark. I was part of the last group to go through, and waited about an hour and fifteen minutes. I do not expect it to get crowds like this again since it was the first night and they were giving away t-shirts. Don't let that deter you. I had been through the Dino trail several dozen times, so I knew my way around. I imagine that if you didn't then it would be a really freaky experience. I'd actually pay good money to be able to walk it alone at night with just the little LED flashlight they gave us. That would be creepy.

  19. Last year on Delirium, some guy was sitting in my seat and I told the ride op about it and she told him to move and he was like, "No way n**** this is my seat. He was then asked to leave the ride and idk if he was asked to leave the park and then I had to sit next to his girlfriend and she literally kicked my leg the entire ride screaming, "You a**hole that was my bf!" I then told security and pointed her out and justice was served. Like I came out to have a good time and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now.

  24. I disagree with these posts, strongly. As children, my brother and I got to do everything we wanted to in HB Land on each trip to KI, then my parents got their turn to ride the coasters that they enjoyed. While we didn't get to ride those coasters because we weren't tall enough, my brother and I were always fascinated with them and enjoyed just watching them run their course. Plus we got to spend time together as a family in line. And it taught us that the world doesn't revolve around us; why should we be the only ones who get to ride what we want to? Why shouldn't we share the joy of a trip to KI with our parents by letting them ride the rides that they like? As my parents would roll into the station, they were typically greeted with us geeking out just as much or moreso than they did while riding the ride as we grilled them with questions about how high up they were, how fast they went, and what the heck it's like to go upside-down. I mean think about what some of you are saying. You'd rather get a sitter than get to spend that time with your child(ren) while also getting to enjoy the rides that you like? "Have you heard of parenting??" Shame on all of you who question the parenting methods of any parent who does that. I feel like my parents have been personally attacked on here, and they're not here to defend themselves. It's one thing to say "I wouldn't do that with my kid(s)". I can respect anyone that has a different philosophy, even if I might disagree. But to say things like "have they heard of parenting??" crosses the line of "I disagree" and into the realm of a personal attack. I don't think it's a personal attack. When I take my kids, my daughter (who is 10 and is tall enough to ride everything) will only ride one adult coaster, BLSC. My son (who is 8 and will ride everything he is tall enough for) wants to ride stuff my daughter doesn't so we stand in line for stuff she wants to and what he wants to and if she chooses not to ride The Bat, Adventure Express, The Beast, Vortex, or Racers, she gets to sit it out while he and I ride. I don't care what people think of this.

  26. But we have a nice spectator tower too!It was a jab. They've said stuff like that before. I guess what they don't realize is that the fence was LITERALLY to keep guests out of an active construction zone. Does anyone really think that no one would look through the cracks in the fence? Maybe that's why there were teasers (scarecrows) beyond the fence. Lately, there have been even more sly jabs to KI from the Holiday World team........Or at least, that's the way I see it..... For example, recent billboards I have seen throughout parts of Indiana and Ohio that show The Voyage roller coaster with this caption: "GO BIG. NOT FAR. Nation's best wooden coaster." To me, at least, that seems directed towards the world's longest wooden coaster....... That's not just aimed there. There's a new 'wooden' coaster in Gurnee, Illinois. The chain that owns it advertises: GO BIG! GO SIX FLAGS! A letter from Grand Prairie, Texas may well be in the mail. I believe the legal beagles refer to it as a C&D letter.

  32. ^ The first public rides were given on Opening Day, and the first 5,000 riders received t-shirts. Media Day rides did happen the day before, but many others (employees, vendors, etc) rode even earlier. One of my pet peeves is enthusiasts who feel entitled because of perks, such as Media Day access, that are graciously offered to them.

  36. So my experience for Dinos at Dark was an awesome experience. the main reason for going was to obtain a t-shirt for myself and my girlfriend. The weather was awesome at night time. We got in line at 9:15 and they started to build the barricades, around us. The line started to move at 9:45 as they said it would and stopped around 10:30 due to fireworks cleanup, then the line moved smooth. Great view to watch the evenings fireworks show. Had a great couple in front of us and behind us who had 8 excited kids about getting a tshirt. Was able to watch a small viewing of Jurrasic Park and on to the Dinos! Our tour guide was great, I understood that lots of people were in line and felt rushed through the Dinos event, maybe next time when its a little less crowded. the highlight was the s'mores at the end of the trail. It was in a traditional sense a s'more, made with graham crackers, marshmellow fluff and a chocolate spread but still good and gooey. My girlfriend a little miffed about no Reeces s'mores available, lol. The kids in our group enjoyed the experience and I did too, for $3 it was worth it.

  37. To me had it not been for the tshirt, I would say it wasn't worth it. Was one of the first groups and they had us darn near run through it with the tour guide. Eric (the guide) was great but there needs to be more to it to convince me to pay extra to see the same thing I see everyday with my boy. The shirts are neat and my four year old liked it.

  42. Yeah, it shouldn't be that crowded. I went to Carowinds today and the most I waited was 25 minutes for Intimidator. I expect it to be less crowded tomorrow. I guess the same goes with KI.

  43. Worse. Unwanted and unwelcome contact by strangers. This is one of the reasons the line area inside the hangar no longer goes dark.

  44. And don't forget to relax, have fun, and enjoy the sights. Coney is a beautiful park. They really capture the "park" aspect of "amusement park" better than any other amusement park I've been to.

  45. ^ Earlier this season (around 3:00pm on moderately crowded Friday, May 30), I waited 1 hr 50 min to get through Flight of Fear's nearly-filled inside queue. The line separator was letting 14 Fast Lane Plus guests through per two trains, for a 35/65 split. Whenever the Fast Lane Plus queue backed up, the split became ~50/50. Perhaps they concluded that capacity isn't high enough to maintain a good experience for guests in both queues. It should be noted that Cedar Fair's corporate focus is on safe, reliable rides that have high throughput.

  46. You know what grinds my gears, is people who walk in the middle of the road in a parking lot and you are driving behind them, you really just wanna honk your horn, but politely drive slower so you don't run over the people.

  50. Not sure if I've just overlooked any new merchandise but the only display I've seen was some mugs and shot glasses in a random store on IS. Bought a mug......
