You are making predictions for a new coaster 5 years from now... Do you realize how silly that is? Just stop...9 points

Two world records have been broken at Kings Island in the past two weeks. The first was the most heads shaved simultaneously to create awareness for the Dragonfly Foundation, which was a record-setting 219 people - shattering the previous record of 182. Most recently, Kings Island broke the world record for the most people applying sunscreen simultaneously, with 2,148 participants, to create awareness for Melanoma Know More. This Saturday Kings Island will be at it again! To create awareness for the Pink Ribbon Girls, Kings Island will attempt to break the record for the most people to apply lipstick simultaneously. The current record was achieved by Avon Romania in the town of Cluj-Napoca with 1,384 participants. This world record attempt will be on Saturday, August 16th, at 12:00pm in Kings Island's International Showplace Theater. Kings Island Kick Cancer is a charitable drive benefiting the Dragonfly Foundation, Melanoma Know More, and the Pink Ribbon Girls - all three are trusted organizations in the Cincinnati area. For special Kings Island Kicks Cancer tickets, including a portion of ticket sales going to the fund, check out Kings Island's official web site.8 points

Or not. The fact a poster here had the exact same thing happen to them, was not amused, asked for relief, didn't get it, posted here, and was ignored (which appears here and elsewhere)? The fact the park finds this annoying is not dispositive. Nor is the fact they were and are following their policy. It isn't whether they are following their policy that is key here. The policy is annoying their guests. For every one that complains, there are dozens that didn't, but told their friends and neighbors and won't renew next year. No matter how you slice it, this isn't good for the park. And it annoys the very demographic they are trying so hard to attract for now and years to come. Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. There comes a time when a corporation, to save face, just keeps right on doing the stupid thing. "We were right. We did no wrong. We aren't changing." Is this one of those times?8 points

I don't eat popcorn at movies as it is typically soaked in oil. I don't typically eat much at parks as most of the choices are far from high quality, horrid nutritional choices, and often of dubious value.6 points

Before starting a new topic, always use the "search" feature for key words to make sure a topic about it doesn't already exist. Even simpler, you posted this in the "Coming Attractions" section of the board. That's exactly the right place to put it, but you'll notice it's one of 6 topics there. Two of the others are "Next New Ride?" and "Will Diamondback Always Be The Tallest Ride at KI?" This kind of discussion – what's next? what kind of coaster? will it be big? what does the park need in its lineup? etc – is implicit in both of those topics, so discussion about this kind of thing fits perfectly there, no new topic needed. Welcome to KIC. We're glad you're here! My advice for new folks is to treat this like a new school. We want to get to know you! But starting a new school, you'd probably lay low for a little while and listen more than you say. Don't be scared, but explore the forums and reply to some topics before starting new ones. It'll serve you well in the long run!6 points

What a mess! Apparently the people who thought up Fast Lane forgot that there would be a reduction in the value of general admission tickets and passes and that the market would respond accordingly. Now that, as the second quarter numbers show, Fast Lane has been proven to be the break-even move that the basic laws of economics always dictated that it would be, they are forced to gouge five-year-olds and issue public statements containing no apologies for doing so. What a sad state of affairs.6 points

Huh? Disney ticket pricing is 0 - 3 (free, of course); 3 - 9; 10+. This is worth bringing back to the foreground because it's, in many ways, an "honor system." "Is your child 9, or do you get to pay more because they're 10?" No ID to check. No height to measure. No tell-tale sign. And thus, this never happens. You can bet, though, that if a child celebrated a milestone birthday in the middle of an annual pass window, they'd get a "10th Birthday" pin, greetings from every cast member they saw, special meet-and-greets, and a few complimentary snacks during the day. Being hounded for an upgrade fee wouldn't be among the first 100 things that would happen to them. Consequently, it wouldn't something their parents would have to worry about. Should the woman have run to the media? Eh, we don't know her story. She might be a barker. But it IS good that this kind of policy is brought to the forefront where it can be amended (or not). The media catching wind of abuse of Disney's disability access program led to its complete renovation. It's something that needed to happen, but murmurs and occasional complaints weren't lighting that fire under management's butts. Hopefully this will force their hand in at least taking another look at this policy and standardizing their response across the chain. It seems to me like a silly fight to pick. Now that it's been picked, I would think the smart thing to do is to admit fault and drop it. The parent probably wasn't cajoling her child into growing just to pull a fast one on the system. "Pick your battles," as they say. Might be time for the park to bow gracefully to this one.6 points

We finally managed to make it out to Six Flags Magic Mountain for a half day after all those years of seeing it on Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and reading comparisons of MM to Cedar Point.Needless to say, i was very excited! To start off, I have to comment on the incredible heat. It was 108 degrees with a heat index of about 115. I've never been so hot at an amusement park in my life! The park has a very impressive skyline that you can see from several miles away. When we first got to the park, we went straight to Tatsu. The only B&M flyer that i had ridden previously to Tatsu was Superman Ultimate Flight, which was a huge disappointment and really lacked any intensity, so my hopes weren't too high for Tatsu. Boy, was I wrong! Tatsu was a great ride! It's pretty fast and smooth with lots of twists and turns, and the pretzel loop is just MASSIVE! Its probably the most intense part of the ride. I love how the ride uses both stations to wipe out stacking, meaning you don't have to sit at the break run for 3 mins while your manliness is the only think supporting the weight of your body. Rating: 8.5/10 Next was X2, which was probably the most anticipated ride at the park for me. I heard from many that it was the best ride in the park, and one of the best in the world. After waiting about 45 mins, we sat in the front of the train and prepared for what i would say is the most unique ride experience that i have had. The first drop was incredible! The seats rotate as you crest the lift hill and leave you facing straight down as you soar down the first drop. From there, i had no idea which way was up, which way was down, which way was left, or which way was right. I looked over periodically to make sure my girlfriend was still in her seat (she did not fall out). Overall X2 was a great ride, although when the seats rotate it tends to be pretty rocky, making it slightly uncomfortable. None of the music or special effects on the ride were functioning at the time. Rating: 7.5/10 Next, we went right next door to Viper. We didn't really plan on riding Viper, but it was a walk-on and it was right next door so what the heck. The first drop is among the best on Arrow Loopers that i have been on. The rest of the ride is similar to Vortex in terms of pain, so ill leave it there. Rating: 5/10 After Viper, we walked up the hill to Superman Escape From Krypton, which was another ride that i had high hopes for. The line was a very slow moving 45 mins, which was to be expected due to one train operation once you choose a side. It was nice and cool inside the building, but unlike other ride, there was no music, TVs, or anything in line. Just the smell of musty park goers. We boarded the train in the back row, and next thing we knew, we were off. 0-100mph in 7 seconds is not as intense as it sounds. We floated up the tower and floated back down without experiencing the weightlessness that the ride advertises. I didn't even feel like we went up that high. Overall this ride was probably the biggest "let down" ride i have ever ridden. Rating: 4/10 We walked back down the hill to Apocalypse, which i was very excited about. I mean who does love a GCI woodie?! My girlfriend was very skeptical about this ride and all other woodies after riding The Boss at Six Flags St. Louis days earlier, but i ensured her that GCI woodies are fairly smooth. The ride was a walk-on, so we sat in the front. Apocalypse delivered everything you'd expect from a GCI coaster. Twist, turns, airtime, speed, and great positive and lateral Gs. In my opinion, it's the most underrated coaster in the park. Rating: 8/10 Moving along, we were running out of time so we decided to only ride a few more rides. Scream! was next. I was aware that Scream! was just a mirror image of Bizarro at Six Flags Great Adventure, so i knew what to expect. I love floorless coasters. I think they produce a great sensation. Lots of loops, twists and turns, and plenty of speed! Rating: 7.5/10 P.s. This ride has an unbelievable "parking lot" theme to it that you wouldn't want to miss!!! Goliath was right down the path, so we decided to hop on it. I had heard mixed reviews about it, so i wasn't quite sure what to think other than i would probably black out and have my picture taken at the same time. After waiting almost an hour, we boarded in the middle of the train since the line for it was the shortest. The first drop is just, meh..... It's not super good because it takes the same angle (which isn't that steep) all the way until you reach the tunnel. The REAL fun doesn't start until after the MCBR. Speaking of which, the MCBR is the biggest "gut check" on any roller coaster. You come to a complete stop from a very high speed. The end of the ride has some incredibly high sustained positive Gs, but nowhere close to Intimidator 305. Overall, Goliath was a solid right. Nothing to write home about (isn't that what I'm doing now though?), but solid. Rating: 7/10 P.S. Goliath wins the award for most intimidating entrance in the Six Flags chain. Our final ride of the day was Full Throttle, another ride that i had high hopes for. Approaching the ride, you get a sense for how massive the signature loop is. We waited in line for a little over an hour which was the longest line of the day. The launch is very smooth, but not intense, but hanging at the top of the worlds tallest loop was pretty cool. The rest of the ride was just....... ok. Yes, including the over hyped backwards launch. Another "gut check" on this ride. Who ever though it was a good idea to put breaks on a vertical descent is just....... anyway. This ride was another let dow ride. The ride is not much more outside of the vertical loop. It is also a very short ride. Rating: 6.5/10 After riding Full Throttle, we concluded our day at Magic Mountain. I wish i could review some of the flag rides at the park...... Oh wait...... there are no flat rides....... The lack of flat rides at the park is very disappointing. Actually, outside of the roller coasters, the park as a whole is very disappointing. There is very little to nothing for a family with young kids to do, or even if you're not a fan of the high thrill coaster. Most of the rides are in dire need of a paint job, and a lot of TLC, as is the rest of the park. Walking through the park, i felt as if Six Flags intentionally neglects everything in the park. If Magic Mountain is supposed to be a flagship park for the Six Flags chain, it does a horrible job of park upkeep. Kings Island and Cedar Point far surpass this park in nearly every aspect. I don't even think this park is the best in the Six Flags chain. I'd choose Great Adventure over Magic Mountain any day. Overall Rating: 6/10 Quick side note: If you plan on buying anything in the park, be prepared to spend a little extra money than you normally spend at other parks.5 points

Evacuation to this extent is newsworthy. It does frustrate me that the media will use a park's website defining a ride that is meant to create a thrilling fantasy adventure as use it as something serious and over dramatic.4 points

I daresay this. By the end of 2019, I'd say the chances that the same company that then owns Cedar Point, Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Carowinds, Knott's will also own Magic Mountain, Great Adventure and Six Flags Great America are more than 80 percent. Valleyfair, Dorney, Canada's Wonderland, Worlds of Fun and Six Flags America, along with SIX's "partnership parks"-- SFOT and SFOG, may or may not be a part of that consortium. 20 Percent? Watch Herschend. SeaWorld, Palace. Merlin. Anything can happen.4 points

Maybe I'm just spoiled by Universal, but it seems to me that if you decide to make a locker mandatory, then make them free. I know the argument is "You could leave it with a non-rider" but c'mon. There isn't always a non-rider. The park knows we're captive and that if you want to ride Banshee, you have to leave carry-on items behind. I think that's fine, and fair, and a great choice! But then, make them free. Talk about a gesture of good will. Because as it is, making lockers mandatory doesn't come across as a rule put forth for safety and to keep the line moving quickly. To say, "You have to do this, and it just so happens we get money when you do, but I PROMISE that's not why we say you have to..." Conflict of interest there haha. If suddenly guests didn't have to pay $5.00 for lockers throughout the day, they would probably say, "Oh! Well since I don't have to pay for lockers, I might as well get some ice cream." People are so used to getting gouged for the old crappy food the park used to have, and for lockers, and for parking, and for drinks that if the park slowly backed that down to a reasonable level, they'd find that more people would be willing to pay more. I don't know anything about economics, but I even said years ago that if they charged half as much for a burger, three times as many people would buy them. Seems simple enough to me, and I know the profit would be there. *shrug* Same goes for lockers, but in a goodwill kind of way. +1.4 points

Lol, "New for 2019! Booze Blasters on Booze Hill! This is truly a leap for the park, as we try and liquor up the parents as they try and deal with their kids all day. For the price of $15 you can ride Booze Blasters on Booze Hill, and try and drink as much alcohol you can and also with your Booze Blaster, you can shoot it at other people! You will get drunk, may get trashed!" Note: This would be some bad PR,new ride, and bad parenting. I am dying of laughter right now lol!4 points

A lone trip to Conneaut will be ok. There are a handful of flats and Blue Streak. I am actually hoping to make another trip there before their season ends just to ride Blue Streak. There is something absolutely wonderful about that coaster. It's old and rickety, but fun. Waldameer is a park I love. My fave woodie is there. I wholeheartedly think if you can go there, you need to go.4 points

Essentially, which seems pointless but it was a step-at-a-time. The park maps tell the story better than words. The tiny family park Geauga Lake was one of those that grew very organically over a century from a little picnic park to a family amusement park. SeaWorld Ohio moved in on the other side of the lake in the 1970s, and the two existed across from each other with no minimal relationship for 30 years. It was very odd. I can remember being at Geauga Lake as a kid and looking across the water at the Shamu stadium. Likewise, you'd be at SeaWorld and see roller coasters across the lake. Basically the water park ended up "moving across the lake" in a step-by-step plan to cover up the former SeaWorld, which for a year sat vacant across the lake and was making no fans for the "new" Geauga Lake. Obviously the history is very complicated, but expand below for my layman's timeline. I'm by no means an expert. I feel especially bad for the folks in charge of those brown attraction / entertainment road signs who found themselves changing the park's name every year or two. (Expand for timeline)3 points

From a thread a month ago on the topic of that very same, mysterious drink offer. A month ago, people were being told "if the food stands say they've never heard of this, tell them to call up to Guest Services." Now, silver2005 says it was the lady at Guest Services who didn't know they existed! And worse, that employees "weren't supposed to be selling them?" Clearly she was mistaken, but what kind of system does the computer use that employees can sell things they're not supposed to? Yea I'd be curious how they were able to sell it in the first place. But the other aspect too is if they weren't selling them this year why did the food stalls have them to give away in the first place then. They couldn't sell you the wristband if they didn't have it. And I agree Terpy. Not too surprised to see some confusion on things at the start of the season, but at the end of it these type of bugs should be cleared up.3 points

I think that the area can support a small, local-based, family park. Something that could eventually grow to be Kennywood-sized or so. Problem is that those parks rely heavily on history and nostalgia. You can't just "create" a park like that. They can't just appear. The other problem is that no one is as well-equipped to create that as Cedar Fair is, and they 1) seem unlikely to do so 2) would get a lot of push-back from the community. Locals who grew up at Geauga Lake have no reason to follow Cedar Fair's growth and change. To them, Cedar Fair will always be the corporation that closed their paradise - their Kings Island - after the season ended so no one could get last rides or say goodbye. If Cedar Fair put the park up for sale and Parques Reunidos bought it, maybe it would have a chance to grow in the way that it could. Herschend might also be able to do something with it. Cedar Fair definitely has the capability, but those two caveats are heavy ones. About half of the former SeaWorld is still vacant and undeveloped, as is the former Happy Harbor area. Like I said earlier, I don't know why they closed Happy Harbor to begin with. What was so damaging about having a giant three-story climbing net structure, three or four little family flat rides (Yo-Yo Swings, swinging ship, etc), a 4D movie theatre, a discovery garden, and a motion simulator? That alone would help the park qualify as a "family amusement park" rather than just a water park. Instead, they bulldozed that too! Scrapped it! Like, huh? Really? You can't just leave the motion simulator, garden, swinging ship, and climbing nets? Cost more to tear down than they would've cost to operate! It seems like their mindset was just to eradicate anything that was not water park. Anything! Because there's literally no other explanation for Happy Harbor being dismantled. If they were able to have kept that, and then maybe expand onto the rest of the currently-unoccupied-former-SeaWorld with a family wooden coaster, a couple thrilling flat rides, and maybe a flume ride, they'd have the start of a decent family park. Michigan's Adventure-sized in its wildest dreams, but a start. What's so disgustingly tragic is all of that infrastructure on the Wild Rides side, gone. If you'd never been, there's just no way to describe that this was, very simply, a really, really nice theme park with really wonderful little themed areas that had grown over the years and become very well-done. Coyote Creek, 50's Midway, Gotham City, Looney Tunes Boomtown, Hurricane Harbor... I mean, really an exemplary park, and even an exemplary Six Flags in terms of the era. To see that all leveled is heartbreaking, even today. So much waste. Yes the park over-expanded. Yes it was ill-prepared for the Pandora's Box that Six Flags opened. Yes it was too big, too fast. Yes it was probably doomed after those two years where 5 coasters were added. But that doesn't make it any less awful that it was leveled. So yeah, if Cedar Fair announced that they had plans to develop the remaining SeaWorld area into a family amusement park, I would be shocked and glad. But I wouldn't be "happy." Does that make sense? It would be artificial. To see so much lovely theming and history literally bulldozed... It's just horrific. Truly. Whether you were a fan of the park or not, regardless of who you blame, regardless of how things might be done differently today, it's truly horrific. Wow. God. Physically makes my stomach turn. I didn't expect to still have that reaction. The maps are oriented the same way. The building marked "78" in Happy Harbor at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure matches up to the upper-left-most building on the WildWater Kingdom map.3 points

Why would they issue an apology? Regardless of how any of us feel on this issue, the park operated in accordance with their policy. The proper talking point is in the spirit of : "We regret any inconvenience that any of our guests experience. We always endeavor to provide every guest with an enjoyable experience every time they visit our parks. We will be examining and evaluating this incident in the interest of providing each and every one of our guests with the best experience possible." Not the "screw her" response that the media is putting out there.3 points

Trip Report- 8/9/14 I got a bit of a later start for this visit. Wanted to sleep in an extra hour or so, but I did manage to get in 1 ride on Banshee and Bat right before ERT ended. For this visit, I went with a Fast Lane Plus. I was a bit worried if I was getting it with how the crowds would turn out as there were scattered t-storms in the forecast We got a small drizzle after lunch, but that was it. Crowds were typical for a Saturday, though most things were walk-ons until about noon when crowds just exploded. Did get on Flight of Fear early too as it wasn't on FL. I took it pretty easy today. I didn't ride a lot on a few particular rides, but I did manage to ride a good variety. The only 3 I didn't get to in the non-Planet Snoopy areas were WWC (wait nearly to the bridge over the train), Scrambler, Monster and Dodgems. I have to admit, I miss Shake, Rattle N' Roll. If its up next year, I'm making sure to make up for the rides I didn't have this year. I learned today that the drink wrist bands are no more. Apparently there was mis-communication between the food department and management and they weren't supposed to exist. Being a fan of the Coke Freestyle Machines, this makes me sad. I had a few interesting points of the day. Around lunch and dinner, I went around to do a bit of a photography session. I approached it somewhat differently. I know we have plenty of photographers that zero in on the rides, which is fine, so I paid attention to little details and park atmosphere. I hope it comes across in the photos I'll soon be posting. I particularly like the ones I got on I-Street as well as a nice overview of Rivertown and Coney Mall. Near the end of the day, I pretty much rode Banshee, Racer, Vortex, DB and Beast for 2.5 hours since this was my last visit until mid-October by the looks of things as UC and band own my soul until then. In the evening, I got to ride both Beast and Diamondback with Gary Coleman, who is up to over 10,200 btw. Turns out he actually does ride stuff other than Diamondback. Then something kind of epic happened. I barely made it on Beast before they shut it down for the fireworks, and with 9 minutes to spare, I power walked from Beast to Banshee with about 2 minutes to spare for 1 last Banshee night ride. The fireworks started as soon as we hit the final brakes. The timing for that couldn't have been any better (along with a full moon illuminating the track on Beast, it was a GORGEOUS night ride). Anyways, that'll do for my trip reports for a while. I'll post my pictures sometime before Wednesday. I might do a few TR's on interesting band events. I absolutely will do one for the OSU trip with pictures. EDIT: I also caught the 80's show today. This suffers from the opposite problem the Boyz show did using key. They keys matched the songs, but the singers had to make octave jumps to compensate, usually going down octaves, which some couldn't hold up. There were a few songs taken way too fast as well. The singer for one of the Madonna numbers tried to growl her notes country music-esque which really ruined it.3 points

The clear perception for the public is that Kings Island couldn't care less about the hassle or inconvenience, it wants the money. Not unlike two years ago, when KD season passes could only be renewed at the park, IN PERSON. No online, no phone renewals. Not unlike holding a guest near hostage at the Carowinds gate for half an hour before the park opened and 15 minutes after--claiming they had already entered with a season pass that morning and trying to reach Kings Island on the phone to "verify" the pass which had been used without incident the day before and ALLEGEDLY that very morning again. What all this has in common is delivering the perception to the customer that the park values its processes and procedures, even when they are clunky or don't work at all, more than it values its guests. Parks' admissions departments sometimes function more like detention monitors than guest service ambassadors.3 points
