A great example of what Sally is capable of when given the resources! Some of us are limited to associating them with Boo Blasters, broken guns, and blacklight cutouts, but Sally is a true leader in the dark ride industry!10 points

You guys are both exactly right. As much as Dan seems to be energetic and all for the expansion of ASA, I feel like he comes off more like a used car salesman. I have a hard time trusting anything this man says especially after the ruling from the Indiana courts... He just doesn't seem genuine. I mean not only did he commit those offenses against his own family but he committed those offenses against his own brother's kids after they had to suffer through the tragic death of their father. I still can't get over that.6 points

Being a REAL Marvel fan who loved Marvel LONG before Disney's acquisition that's brought on all those new age wannabe fanboys, you certainly know that the Joker is a character owned by DC Comics and licensed to Six Flags under their agreement.6 points

Appears to be a holiday special to buy a single day ticket for any day during the season and get a free Fast Lane. Nice stocking stuffer...but I'd rather have the season long pass, Santa.6 points

That all being said, and I totally agree, it's just as sad that Pat Koch is apparently not welcome at the park she and her late husband worked so hard to establish. The entire situation is tragic, and I cannot and will not look at either park with the same awe and respect that I once did.5 points

^ The record number of riders in a season for each ride is listed on the ride records page on visitskingsisland.com. A direct link is in the first post of this thread. Click each ride to expand its statistics. Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad has two stations in the main park. The ride features numerous special effects on the eastern half of the loop. The layout of Cedar Point requires more walking between far attractions than Kings Island's.5 points

Having spent the last two years in kiddy land with present day four year old twins, I'll throw in my two cents. Did my kids know who the Peanuts were before they started going to KI? No. Did they care what brand there was? Not one bit. If anything, their exposure to the Peanuts gang at KI has led them to see what the Peanuts were all about outside of KI. Can't begin to tell you how many times we've watched "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" the past few months. Now that they are more familiar with the Peanuts, it makes each visit that much more special for them. Not sure if that's what Cedar Fair was gunning for when they went with a less familiar brand but hey, whatever works. I'll say this, we threw down quite a bit of cash this year on Peanuts plush in the merch shop so kudos to Cedar Fair, mission accomplished. As for the removal of water maze, I guess the bad finally outweighed the good. Sure there was never a line and there was little maintenance needed on it but it always seemed like such a liability having that attraction around. Then again, I guess it's no different than the tipping bucket over in the waterpark.4 points

Kings Island has a sort-of Winterfest going on right now, the Eiffel Tower is still lit up with the cycling colors. Its actually a nice sight to see during the off season, especially in winter.4 points

Well, if it weren't blatantly obvious from my avatar and some of my posts, it would be college basketball, particularly attending games in person. While I mainly go to Cincinnati games, I also tend to check out Xavier and other area teams who are doing well. Conference play, especially against the better teams, are quite fun. Looking forward to going to see the Bearcats play UConn, Memphis and Xavier at home later this year.4 points

That animatronic is almost creepy with how realistic and fluid the motion is. Wow. High-quality physical sets combined with 3D effects and (what I am selfishly, desperately praying will be) a ride system like Curse of DarKastle? Sign me up right now. As much as I want to like the idea behind Wonder Mountain's Guardian, this seems like a much more impressive step forward in seasonal parks' dark rides. I am dying to get to St. Louis next year...4 points

(Well, I thought I posted this last week but my phone clearly did not want to I guess?) With the Off Season winter blues are here, it is hard not to think of riding The Beast or going on The Bat for the famous Fall rides that I personally love. BUT there are still thrills to be had in Cincy. So this week's question is: What are your off season thrills? Any hidden gems you want to share?3 points

Here's my two cents on WinterFest if anyone cares: The park's main objective is to make money. It's that simple. I think they'll observe how The Beach Mountain goes over this winter. If they get a substantial amount of visitors to their event, it might peak the interest of KI and make them realize that there is an interest in a big winter event in the greater Cincinnati/Dayton area. However, the park is barely able to have enough time to do off-season maintenance within the 5-6 month span from November-April. WinterFest would drastically cut into that, so I don't think that with Halloween Haunt, the park would be able to open the 3rd or 4th week in April like usual. I think it would need to open around Memorial Day at least to allow enough time for everything. I don't want that myself, I would rather the park be open for Spring Break, and have more time to ride the rides. Ohio weather is inconsistent, and that's the main problem here. Sure, you may get a few days in December where it's perfectly fine to be outside, but the majority of the time it is not. I think the main problem with everyone on here is Kings Island withdrawal. You miss being in the park, and I understand that. I'd like to see Kings Island follow in the footsteps of Cedar Point, and maybe have 1 or 2 winter tours that help support charities. But, I just don't see WinterFest ever coming back, and being a success that is. The park is understaffed in the spring and fall as it is, finding the right amount of people to take care of a park so massive in the winter, with snow plows and everything, just isn't going to happen.3 points

Clearly the company has high expectations for a secondary year of a new coaster. Maybe they suffered in good any day ticket sales last year.3 points

To anyone curious, Joker and Cyborg (seen on the right side of the video) are the only animatronics in the attraction. Everything else will be screen-based. Here's some information, pulled from my (shamless plug) "Rides and Slides" thread.3 points

The ticket is valid through Labor Day once purchased. The option to purchase it might be available only for another few weeks, days, or hours. The fact that it can be used through Labor Day is good. It'll disperse all of these ticket holder across the length of the season. Imagine if, instead, the offer was admission + Fast Lane valid only on Saturdays in June. Being less restrictive in that is helpful. The online system doesn't give any more specific information, but I would assume that this offer is available only in this pre-holiday season - a way to try to encourage people to buy this as a gift if the Gold Pass is outside their price range. A Gold Pass gets you unlimited access to Kings Island all season for $117.00 plus processing. For half the cost, you can still give your loved one a "best day of the year" experience. Oh, and let's hope their friends are also gifted an admission + Fast Lane combo. If not, they'll have to do a little extra purchasing to keep up. Get it?3 points

I hope this movie is a big hit and the parks are able to capitalize on it.3 points

WDTN - Dayton, Beach Mountain Interview http://wdtn.com/2014/11/17/the-beach-mountain/ This was the same lady that only got one media hit after their media day (the DDN article in the initial post). She clearly can't speak on camera either. There is also the claim that Beach Mountain is 40' tall and 40' long. That's incorrect. It's about 40' tall, however it's much longer than 40'. It is also implied that the the Winter VIllage section will be in the water park. It'll be on the water park "side" of the parking lot, but not in the water park itself. The vast majority of the water park will not be open for this activity. With all that being said, let's hope that they have a successful event. The Adventure Holdings people are good people. They are trying to do this right the first time out of the gates. There are going to be snags along the way. As a reminder, Beach Mountain opens Friday at 10am. The first 100 people down the hill get a Beach Mountain Backpack. (Why they're giving out backpacks at 10am on a school day is beyond me, by the way) I assure you - I'm not bashing to be hateful, I'm criticizing because I care. http://www.thebeachmountain.com/3 points

I don't know, it just looked like a very different type of roller coaster than I've ever seen before. I guess I saw it as like a giant tower/coaster combo (one ride and therefore, not a "true" roller coaster in my eyes) rather than a roller coaster that happened to be wrapped around a tower. The video made it seem like the roller coaster was both connected to and independent of the structure as it didn't just tightly wrap around the tower. It sounds confusing, but the bottom line is, the first rendering didn't look like any roller coaster that I had seen before, and not in a good way. On the other hand, the video makes the ride see like an awesome roller coaster than just happens to be located in/near and climb a functional observation tower.3 points

Stuff like this really gets me excited! Brings high hopes to seeing something truly amazing being brought to KI. In these cases I think it is good KI didn't jump on this right away, as other parks can test it and see what works and what doesn't from this company, thus allowing for a better ride tomorrow! I could see something like this consuming the space of Boo Blasters on Boo Hill, and giving us one heck of a new dark ride for the 2016 or later season! the question is though (going for all CF parks) how well will each park keep up with maintenance and theming on the ride, if they get/getting one or already have one?2 points

Great Scott! If WDW's 20K Leagues Under The Sea attraction had a baby, it's this! I LOVE the steam punk theme and how it ties in with the area. Cedar Fair is doing EXACTLY what I love, theme and plot based off of the history of the park. Maybe I should go SoCal this year?2 points

WOW...that is very, very nice. Something on this level would blow away Boo Blasters, and if put in the old building, would be an actual worthy successor to Enchanted Voyage/Smurfs/Phantom Theatre. Not really too much more to say other than that. Six Flags may well have hit gold with these dark rides. Also, on the topic title, that Animatronic is no joke. EDIT: Title has been fixed so line above now makes no sense. The poster forgot the "r" in Joker's name.2 points

For myself, The best era for me was the Nick Central years. It had the right mix of HB stuff and the new nick stuff. It felt fun and Scooby doo was a great dark ride. The only "bad" right was Ghoster coaster. Nick Universe wasn't the same. It just felt so corporate.2 points

Suggestions: *If MaxRequestsPerChild is 0 in the Apache2 configuration (in the prefork section), change it. *In the same section, make sure MaxSpareServers and MaxClients are set to sane values *Check the access logs. If some bot is overwhelming the server at times, kill it (via robots.txt) or rate-limit it (depends on the bot). *Make sure that the server itself isn't regularly OOM *Consider using a front-end cache (eg. nginx) if you're not already *If you are using such a cache, check its memory usage and configuration. Specifically, make sure that dead clients are being timed out after a reasonable limit. *If nothing else works, consider disabling keep-alive.2 points

I think I have Terpy syndrome. Requests keep either timing out or taking minutes to get a response. It doesn't matter what I request, if I send any cookies, or which network I connect from. I still say OOM.2 points

(...those who have read the Indiana court decision would: ( a ) question that, and ( b ) hope he isn't doing things as the Court found he did at Holiday World after his brother's passing--things which are why he now owns 40 percent of that park and not all of it... Terp, who is still stunned...)2 points

Wonder what he'd resort to now? Some look silly inn their decisions!2 points

We had a user on here that claimed he would never go to KI again after they closed the campground because he, " refused to visit a park that does not support all forms of lodging." And yes, they looked as foolish as your guy did.2 points
