  1. This could be considered as a small announcement, but I'm happy about it! Personally, I love Heinz way more than Red Gold and am glad for the switch back. Coke AND Heinz now??? I love it. http://cpfoodblog.com/cedar-fair-ketchup-partnership-change/ (fixed link) Thoughts?

  2. My first reaction to the news was sadness because the Kings Island Resort was part of Kings Island history - and I fondly recall it being featured on The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family. But the resort is closed and will be razed. That is the sad reality. However, as an MBA who works in the financial services industry,I am very, very disappointed that there is no opposition to building apartments in a commercial district. With 300 apartments across the street from KI, how congested will traffic be? What if the apartments attract residents that don't appreciate park guests across the street and do things to make them unhappy or complain at civic meetings that the park is too loud and they want to make changes to it? At worst case, what if non law abiding people move into the apartments and break into cars in KI's parking lot? I think that it is a very, very bad decision and will have a negative impact upon Kings Island and Mason. I think that the land should be used for something else commercial. But that is just my opinion.

  3. Yes, because it still isn't zoned properly for apartments, is it? If not, I encourage those in the area to attend those zoning meetings.

  4. Perhaps the entire "plan" is a ruse to try to force Cedar Fair to buy the property at an inflated price?

  5. The current apartment industry is a corporate cash mill. Outrageous late fees, no line-of-sight to lease rate increase amounts until 30 days out, and usually ridiculous renewal rates, false "Utility" companies that are really the same company disguised as a utility, so they can get around PUCO regulations and charge water and common electric rates by the square foot, which is why many of these companies refuse rent payment unless the "utility" company is paid (so they can claim to charge $740, but really it's whatever they adjust it to so that they can pad their investors' yacht cushions.) Say you agree to $740. Great. You pay the $740, but they won't accept it until you pay your "Midland Power LLC" bill of $140. "Midland Power LLC" is really a subsidiary of your "Larry Connor Apartment Co." or whatever. You're paying $880 for rent. You still have to pay your own Duke or DP&L bill, and any other "real" utilities. Then, you're comfy in your little apartment. You've been there a year, it's too soon to go through the stress of moving. You get your little renewal reminder. Effective next month, your lease will be $820 (i.e., $960). This happened to me. I was furious. I moved into a privately-owned complex in Mason, and everything was fair going forward (but uncomfortable; nosy, noisy neighbors, etc.) I'm going to buy a house. Way out in the country. Cheap. Quiet. Mine. /rant off.

  6. Which is why I live in Ohio, for now. You're a trooper residing in/around that Beltway. I can't imagine living there. Ever.

  7. Sorry to double post, but what a sad article. "As we move up to modern times and into the cyber age. We had witnessed the explosion of the Internet and our nation was rapidly expanding with real-estate sales of all types. Real Estate Sales were basically on steroids and America was in transformation and taking on a new shape. The locals and municipalities of P.C.B. desperately wanted to shed the image of the Redneck Riviera. The City wanted to begin to earn what they felt these properties were truly worth and what they felt they should be making since this was in fact Premium Beachfront Property. It was decided to loose the Miracle Mile Image also known in slang as the The Redneck Riviera. The transformation would be marketed as The Emerald Coast" due to the Blue/Green color of the waters depending upon the time of day. The pressure began to mount on current business operators of the day and unfortunately this park along with others in the area's days of operation would be limited." And here we are, 10 years later, and it sits as an eye sore, an overgrown lot with abandoned buildings that used to house rides and attractions. That is unless something has changed since the 2010 photos included on page 2 of the article. I think there may be a lesson to be learned here. EDIT: I misread, as of 2010 it was completely leveled, the pictures were taken before.

  9. Kings Island website has already updated Heinz as a sponsor. Prairie Farms was added as well. (New Yogurt place?)

  10. Red Gold isn't awful in my opinion, nor is it very good. Mediocre. Not unlike a lot of Cedar Fair park food. Perhaps dumping it is a sign of things to come. Don't EVEN get me started on Six Flags pizza. Mediocre would be a drastic improvement. Famous Famiglia. YUCK!

  12. ^ With either brand, you're getting tomato paste, vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, salt, and flavorings. The quality of the tomatoes and the content of the "flavoring" varies by brand and possibly by batch. A multi-billion dollar food brand goes to a lot of effort to achieve a consistent taste. You might not notice a difference between brands, but food companies work very hard to ensure that some do. Were I to taste both brands, I would be overwhelmed by the tanginess and sweetness of both - probably so much that I probably wouldn't notice any more subtle differences. I can't stand the stuff. If you're at a sit-down restaurant that uses an off-brand or house brand condiment, and you want the most popular brand, try asking for it. It's probably stocked for people like you. There are lots of us with food preferences outside the norm. Try going to a restaurant with a group from here.

  13. I spent an entire career saying I'd never work here. And now I do and live inside the beltway to boot. I spose I'm here another year, as the notice period to not renew my lease ended Wednesday... And I much, much prefer DC to Atlanta, and would even take Atlanta over Florida...

  17. The owner of the park probably made a fortune selling that land though. According to Wikipedia, many of the rides have since been sold and moved to other locations, and a smaller amusement park opened nearby in 2010 (see http://www.ms-pp.com). It sounds like what happened is they waited too long to clear the land, and by 2010, the country was in a recession so people weren't as interested in buying beachfront condos. Things might turn around now that the recession seems to be ending to some extent, but still, luxury housing isn't as lucrative as it once was.

  21. Really? Try DC. Two months rent to cancel early PLUS at least a 30 day notice. $150 monthly UP for a parking place. Application fees NOT refundable if you are not accepted. Rents three to four times the national average, with extremely low vacancy rates...

  33. It's highly unlikely the individual will ever be found. There were multiple reports of gunfire in the area, and they have no info on which direction the bullet came from relative to where she was standing. Plus, people who do things that are illegal often don't come forward and admit to their crimes.

  35. And now, IT will be banished from the park, replaced by the abysmal Heinz Mustard. Meh.

  36. Heinz is to Ketchup as Hellman's (Best Foods in the West) is to Mayo. And French's as to Mustard. Bounty to paper towels. Accept no substitutes.

  37. Cirque was awesome, but I still miss Ed. Either show is a welcome change of pace, though from the musical revues to which we had become so accustomed. And for the music lovers, both shows had a fantastic variety of tunes, too. It's a relatively safe bet we'll be seeing more of cirque in 2015 at Kings Island. I'll be going to a lot of other Cedar Fair parks in 2015, though, and I really hope Ed is at one of the ones I go to this year. And that I don't manage to end up there on his day off...

  39. As did Friday's. This may be one of the most pleasant surprises this off season, and a change I am excited for, no more bland ketchup with my fries. As for mustard, I'm not much of a yellow fan. I much prefer brown, preferably Stadium Mustard.

  40. Heinz probably made it cheaper for CF to carry both the ketchup and the mustard than to carry only the ketchup while continuing to carry French's mustard.

  41. Link is bad. Here's a link that works . I can't wait to have Heinz relish, I love relish in general, but Heinz has a special place for the relish counter.

  42. Maybe it was an indirect tension laceration. She was standing, and bullets cause shockwaves. Leg skin is tight to the muscle when standing, so I can imagine skin breaking elsewhere from the 'snap' of the skin reacting to the bullet's entry. This is gross. But it seems logical. It might also be the cue ball effect, where tissue and such get "knocked" out the other side, while the bullet stays inside. This makes me cringe; but it's fascinating in a "makes-ya-think" kind of way. (Not a medical specialist of any kind.)
