  1. I remember riding WWC when I was in my teens (about 15-20 years ago), someone on the ride pulled out an umbrella on my boat (this was back when they paired riders up to fill up the boat so I didn't know the person). The person shooting the geyser warned the rider to put away their umbrella which of course they didn't listen to. All of a sudden I had something happen that had never happened before, they stopped our boat in the middle of the ride and she just started pounding us with a geyser until the rider eventually put the umbrella away. Too bad they didn't do that to this particular rider, I can assure you no electronic device would of survived the water beating I took that day.

  4. I just want some paint, some fountains, and some better food. Not too hard to ask. I'm easy to please in the parks. Give me an area to stroll, some fun things to ride with friends, and a show or two worth my time. Aside from that, it's the environment and escape from the normal ebb and flow of the world I enjoy. Why people spend time on their phones texting, messaging, and taking selfies I'll never understand. Other than to meet people in the park or respond to business emails and inquiries, my phone isn't used. My time is better spent with people I'm around.

  8. While I wouldn't choose the system myself, I would argue that it DOES make your vacation simpler. You pre-book your flight, right? You pre-book your transportation. You pre-book your hotel. You pre-purchase your park tickets. [if you want into a good, sit-down restaurant,] you pre-book your dinner reservations. Now, you pre-reserve a select number of attractions you'd like to be on. You probably wouldn't arrive and say "Oh, we'll figure out the hotel when we get there." Now, planning your DAYS is built right into that. Once you arrive, it's ALL taken care of. Smooth sailing. Many analysts argue that Walt Disney World is NOT primarily a theme park business, but a real estate business. What really matters to Walt Disney World is hotel occupancy; DVC membership; keeping people on-property to eat, shop, be entertained, etc. It's a physical walled garden where Disney earns your dollar coming and going. Think of MyMagic+ as the cornerstone of that. Arrive at MCO unsure of what to do or where to go. But look, Disney's Magical Express shuttle is waiting for you! With a wave of that gee-whiz MagicBand, you're on board. You won't see your luggage again until it "magically" appears in your Disney Resort hotel room. You don't even need a rental car thanks to Disney's foresight and generosity! Wow! Then that crazy gadget on your wrist lets you into your room, provides easy wallet-free payment, park access, dining reservations... And don't forget, you even got to reserve FRONT OF THE LINE PASSES for each day of your vacation FOR FREE! Just like you already knew exactly where you'd eat (dining reservations are made months out at Disney) and where you'd stay (same) and how you'd get there (same), you now know exactly which park to go to each day and what will be waiting for you at each! By the way, if you want to spend even a day at that resort down the road with that wizard, you'll forfeit all of this for 24 hours. No more easy access. No MagicBands. No convenient hotel. And if you INSIST on stepping out of Disney's garden, good luck finding a route. Your only option to get to Universal is probably going to be a cab. Have fun! MagicBand and MyMagic+ are part of the business plan. They tie you even further to Disney's geographical resort and the program's forced pre-planning is – like it or not – a way to simplify and solidify vacation plans well ahead of your visit. I don't doubt that many or most families like that.

  9. The Adventure Express crew have come up with an interesting way of entertaining themselves: miming holding and petting a cat. I first noticed one young man doing it last week, and he was telling someone he did it for an hour the day before without anyone mentioning it. Then when I rode again yesterday, that ride op was working too, but it was one of his coworkers "petting the kitty." There is a strangeness among the AE crew, but I enjoy them

  11. Tomorrow I'm making my first return to KI in years, and first time going with kids. I love KI, but with young kids we just haven't made the trip (which I did annually as a kid). Tomorrow my wife and I will be taking our 6 year old boy and 4 year old girl. The girl will have fun in Planet Snoopy, but my son loves coasters. He's 49" so we'll hit the 48" requirement rides. We're coming with another family with two boys (one 48"+ and one 54"+) and a 4 year old that will hang with my daughter in PS. Not having been in so long, I'd love any advice you can provide. I've spent the last week reading through the message board and tips on various other websites. I'm guessing with it being a Wednesday and given the weather forecast that the crowds will be lighter, right? Should we have any particular gameplan (like starting left and going clockwise, or back to front, etc.)? We're hoping to be there, parked and ready to go in at the 10:00 opening. Any advice is greatly appreciated! **Edit --> I just noticed my profile pic (pulled from FB) is my son and I on the 7 Dwarfs Mine Cart ride at Disney from the spring.**

  12. You're not seeing any Kings Island advertising in Metro Detroit because we're not a target market for them. The 2-park combo ticket with MiA and CP does not need to be used back-to-back; it's meant to get you to make trips to both parks. KI is a tougher sell up here to residents who already find the ~2-3hr drives to CP and MiA to be a bit much for a day/weekend trip. Per Google Maps, here's how far I am from the various parks in southwest Oakland County.. Cedar Point | 2:09 | 127 mi Michigan's Adventure | 2:31 | 178 mi Kings Island | 3:56 | 259 mi Notes: CP is, in essence, half as long a drive as KI. And my brother in southeast Wayne County.. Cedar Point | 1:44 | 99.2 mi Michigan's Adventure | 3:01 | 212 mi Kings Island | 3:31 | 232 mi KI isn't much farther than MiA to him but he's really at the south end of the Metro Detroit area. Bottom line? They're advertising the two closest parks. (What everyone else said.)

  24. I was surely glad I got to ride Thunder Road before they dimanteled it. I wasn't attached to it like others because I just made my first trip to Carowinds a couple of weeks ago, but I'm still surprised they are getting rid of a ride like that. It was a fun and great racing woodie. I understand why they are doing it, with the location and how often they use that parking lot, there is plenty of room for a water park expansion. But to be honest I don't know why they can't just clear the parking lot and use that for the water park expansion and just place a walking path underneath it similar to the water park pathway under Rebel Yell at Kings Dominion.

  25. Its sickening how much trash is left in the parking lot after a day at Kings Island. People are so freaking lazy it drives me mad. Almost as mad as someone driving in the left lane of the highway at 65mph or less. Forgive me for going off tangent a bit but, that really does grind my gears (in my best Peter Griffin impersonation). And in my favorite Top Gear rant "Think of it like the lavatory, you go in you do your business you get out, you don't stay there all day!!" If there is one thing I hate more than anything in the world its people riding the Fast Lane when they have an empty lane to their right. GRRRRRRRRRRR. End rant, I hope everyone has a great day today! haha

  26. This past March I was in Big the Musical in Hamilton, which was directed by Kevin Brunck, who is the manager of the Entertainment Dept at KI. In between our two Saturday performances, I heard music coming from the theater. I went in and several members of our pit orchestra were playing pop songs, and they sounded terrific. A crowd of us gathered to just listen to them, while several kids from the show danced along to the music. I found out then by talking to another cast member that the pit orchestra members that were playing are the band from Off the Charts (and Playlist Live last year)! They were practicing for a set of performances they had in Las Vegas; after our Sunday show they were flying straight there. I have yet to sit and watch Off the Charts this year, but I heard several performances while we were at the Banshee Brew Festival, right next to International Showplace. They are a very talented group of musicians... I need to make time to go out and watch them soon! KI Five are back this year? I haven't heard or read any mention of them yet. Another talented group I need to go see again!

  27. I fit comfortably on Backlot but don't fit FoF. Even though they're the same restraints, FoF has a seatbelt that connects from the side of the car to the restraint, while Backlot does not. I curse that seatbelt every time I try to ride FoF! I've heard that rumor too. I know several people who swear by it but it doesn't work for me, but then I have a larger waist than you so you may be fine.

  28. Cedar Point is far closer to Michigan (and obviously well known). KI advertises and has tickets selling in Kentucky and parts of Indiana. I know whenever I go to SoCal I do not expect to see KI tickets. I always thought Michigan's Adventure was actually closer to CP than KI is. KI and CP are several hours apart as there is around 300 (perhaps a bit more) miles between them.

  35. Hi everyone, it's TombRaiderFTW. I've contacted Dane about this, but I'd like to draw attention to it here in case this happens to anyone else. I haven't heard back from him yet: After my last post on the TombRaiderFTW account on July 4th (which was this post in the SeaWorld 2016 thread, I think), I went offline for a while. When I came back on, I no longer had access to PM's and could not post. Attempting to post would return a "[#103126] You have been restricted from posting on this community" error. If I attempted to access my profile (either from clicking my username on a post on mobile or by using the "My Profile" link on the computer), I would get "[#10246.1] This member is no longer active." At least for me in this account, it also isn't possible for me to click on my username beside any TombRaiderFTW posts--it's plain text instead of a hyperlink. At least on mobile, TombRaiderFTW no longer appears in the "Members" list... but I still have the ability to log into that account on both mobile and computer. The only thing I could possibly access to communicate on here was my signature settings, which is why my TombRaiderFTW signature is now a desperate plea for someone to start a thread about this. I have wiped all cookies and stored data for sites from my computer, but nothing has changed. My member group still says "Members" instead of "Banned," and, to the best of my knowledge, I haven't violated the TOS. (If I have and haven't realized it, I apologize for being that knucklehead who did something wrong and made a second account to gripe about being banned! Please feel free to contact me privately to let me know what I did wrong. Whatever it is, I sincerely apologize for what I did--it's never my intent to detract from this community. I'll serve whatever sentence I've earned.) This isn't how I imagine being banned works--I would think my member group would change, but I would still show up in the member list. Likewise, if the account was deleted, I would think my avatar would disappear beside my posts and my username would become "guest_TombRaiderFTW" (or something similar)... but it's still there. It's a bizarre point somewhere between those two points, which leads me to believe this is a forum error. Either that, or Boddah or Dane have it out for me? Has anyone else experienced this?

  36. Only time when I use my phone is for A: Checking wait times B: Checking my texts and emails in line. I hate how easily "my" generations gets sidetracked. We constantly need entertainment, and you'd think a theme park would do that!

  42. Red herrings. Carowinds has already shown they understand how they work and how to implement them. If you get your mind set that they're going one way before an official announcement, you'll spend a Centuri-on remembering how wrong you were. That said, it would be very interesting and a different tactic to file permits they never intend to use in order to teasingly mislead fans. It's definitely not impossible. Carowinds is likely to see elevated investment for some time if the plan is truly to turn it into a Cedar Point of the South. That is, of course, if they mean by size of park, ride line-up, capacity, attendance, and the like. Part of the "DNA" of Cedar Point is roller coasters; the park is well-known for building record-breaking rides. That is something that they really started at Carowinds with Intimidator and Fury 325. It's not impossible for them to quickly follow it up with another coaster. Still, they likely won't want to rush the improvements that much. SIX taught the industry many valuable lessons pre-bankruptcy.

  43. Sadly, that's probably the case. I can see not enforcing the rider responsibility law on guests with arms up, because that's not nearly as likely to cause injury. That and really bad PR. However, loose articles in hand should definitely be taken seriously. We just got back from Carowinds where I saw quite a few guests with phones, GoPro, and even glasses in hand. Even on Fury 325; an op told her she could even leave them on, so long as she didn't turn her head..? Carowinds' policy is apparently to close the loading gates on guests who are on the station floor waiting from passengers to disembark before boarding. Gates controlled by individual industrial-grade pneumatic cylinders, so they pack quite a punch. Guest Services will definitely be hearing about that. I was pleasently shocked at how many trash cans they had out in the parking lot. But it was still very disappointing to see how much trash was just thrown on the outside of cars. I know Kings Island owns a street sweeper but that doesn't make it acceptable. It doesn't matter how many trash cans a park has.. There will always be guests who can't be bothered to throw it away. Just look at the parking lot at the end of the night on any public operating day; it'll be littered with garbage. Grr! I found a credit card on the walkway from the sidewalk during CoasterStock.. Just kinda chilling (warming) there on the concrete. Ran that straight to guest services.

  49. Here's a funny story. I was at the white-and-red geysers, and someone was at every other geyser at Whitewater Canyon, when, through the woods around the bend echoed the voice of the watchtower supervisor (the first one you encounter before the guest-geysers), professionally reminding someone to put away all electronic devices. Then, it happened. The second reminder... and then... the telegraph of all telegraphs: the desperately authoritative "Sir?" when you know the person simply ignored the rules, and was doing it "his way..." You know, I've played in many softball games in my life where, for those rare, wonderful moments, the opposing pitcher just lays a freakin' meatball across your plate, so primed and ready for swatting clean out over the lights. At times like these, I can't help but lick my chops, rub my hands together and await what I just knooowww is going to be a most satisfying barrage of precision water-logging in a long, long time. Sure enough, a guy (and his apparently unsuspecting boat-mates) came along, down below in the rapids, and he had his huge, expensive-looking tablet out, ostensibly filming away at the wonderful surroundings and brightly-colored tubes. For added measure, he had his pretty shoes up on the ring... on a water ride... a water ride with signs... signs that warn... We all kinda looked at one another, and with an almost harmonic "Mwa ha ha ha ha ha!", we unleashed the Kraken! Oh, the gratification (and the quick pace through the woods back to the park... whistling... you know, like nothing ever happened...)
