These type of incidents are not unexpected at some other parks. *cough* Gurnee, Illinois anyone? *cough*. As Cedar Fair follows that other chain’s lead I would expect more.

I can’t disagree with this statement more. IMO the problem is their risk managers have been ignoring the problem for years and have failed to take the steps to prevent these types of incidences. Starting with shoulder shrugs at running, smoking and line jumping. Not suggesting tossing their asses out on Columbia Road for a first offense but taking proactive deescalation measures. Short story back in 77 or 78, a year or so before the infamous Skyride accident at SFSTL my buddy an I took the long bus ride out to the park for a summer day of fun probably in 6th grade. We got the dumbass idea to have bombing runs with ice cubes, got reported and 2 security guards were waiting for us at the station. They chewed out as for a couple of minutes but then lightened up and just started talking to us about what fun was to be had the rest of the day and shortly let us on our way. We probably passed them half a dozen times the rest of the day and they always waved or stopped briefly to ask what we had just ridden and maybe made a suggestion of where we should go next. We also knew if we screwed up again they would have our parents on the phone or just boot us out. They problem as I see it is the total Laissez-faire approach KI has taken towards the small incidents in the past years is leading to these kids to think there are no consequences for their actions. So when the park does get overcrowded and there is nothing to do but wait in ginormous lines for the simplest things problems will arise they can’t control. The old idiom “Idle hands are the Devil’s tools.” comes to mind. IMO what the park needs is more security roaming the grounds, not out to bust heads but getting out ahead of the situation with small talks with guests about expected good park-goer behavior. If management remains laser focused on only next quarter earnings and not the long term health of the park unit holders need to start thinking about an exit strategy.

@Rallyomalley I completely agree that the no-warning reentry ban was not handled well. Be aware that First Aid will hold any medications for you and refrigerate them if needed, free. Just stop by and take what you need anytime. I highly recommend this as many meds are not recommended to be stored over 120F and in the sun even cars with cracked windows will get well over that.

How to fix Cedar Point
King Ding Dong replied to ldhudsonjr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Per Caps has been a very important metric for a long time and is very driven by time spent in the park. They will expand hours and operating days when they have the staff structure to do so efficiently. Weekday late nights are always a bit soft so those may be the last to come back. -

Agreed, but they will only put up with so many bad experiences before looking elsewhere to have a best day ever. -

One thing that will be very interesting to watch is what happens to wages when CP is allowed to bring the international workers back. -

What Happened to the Polar Coaster?

Lol. I remember when this was announced back in 14/15 and a certain bloviating owner of a review site would just hammer anyone that was skeptical of funding this thing. “It is FUNDED, it is going to happen, FUNDING is not a problem, you don’t know what you are talking about. I know everything about this. You are stupid idiot. It is already FUNDED, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.” It was funded until it wasn’t. -
Costco usually has whole boneless rib roasts for about $9/lb averaging about 15lbs, though our location hasn’t had them the past couple of months. Most full service grocery stores will sell them if you ask the butcher, best to call first. I usually cut them in half, slice steaks with half then smoke the other half as a roast and have prime rib for dinner and then put leftovers portion on the slicer and have the best roast beef ever, melts like butter. As to what temp to cook it? As with all things whatever tastes best to you. No wrong answer here. The ends will always be more done than the center.

This topic came up a few years ago and the discussion got rather heated. So I emailed guest services and their response was once the food leaves the window you are free to do whatever you want with it. With the one stipulation that the person the plan was purchased for had to physically be there to order and receive the food. They didn’t mention it specifically but the park probably wouldn’t take kindly to you turning around and trying to sell your burger or salad on the midway. Unless there has been a policy change, and I certainly haven’t seen any indication of one, it is safe to share your food with Integrity. If anyone is still not sure send an email to guest services and ask for yourself.

Fuzzy Math must be a 500 or 600 level course, can’t find it in the undergraduate catalog. -

So if the parks are able to operate profitably at 15% attendance the profit margins at 50% capacity in “normal times” must be enormous, but they aren’t. What gives? -

^ Interesting. I would have thought scanning of passes/tickets would suffice for entrance and just a clicker for exits. -

We could talk about school opening*, that certainly won’t lead to back and forth bickering. * actually does directly impact the parks. Lol. But merchandise bagging protocols will have to suffice I suppose. -
