While Winterfest is listed on the calendar, they do not have hours provided yet for Winterfest. It simply states "Open." Also interesting to note, is that they will be closed on Christmas Eve and Day (Sunday and Monday). They will also be closed on Sunday, December 31st for New Years Eve. Winterfest V3.0 officially opens on Friday November 24th (the day after Thanksgiving). I also noticed that. I was wondering if that Friday would be a private event, or if they are going to have a pass holder preview. (There has been no mention of pass holder preview day from what I can tell, or remember in the fall). Also Friday the 14th is Good Friday. The park is also not open on Sunday April 23rd, as there is a private event that day.

I'd like to add that if you are unsure whether to source an image or not, err on the side of caution and source the image. Onviously if it is a picture you yourself have taken, there is no need to source.

Cedar Fair Coaster Trends
CoastersRZ replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
But in order to understand the whole story, you can't look at just the coasters. You need to look at the flat ride installations, and the water park installations to get the whole story. Roller coasters are but one facet of the story. -
Cedar Fair Coaster Trends
CoastersRZ replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Past history does not necessarily indicate the future of any particular park. Not to mention, that each Cedar Fair park has a different market in which it operates, so has different needs in terms of what rides are needed and will bring the best ROI. -
A couple of items I would like to point out from an architectural perspective. The water that is used in RFYLCB is likely fed from water lines, but once the reservoir is filled, the water is treated and recirculated (with additional water supplemented as needed to account for evaporation, water lost to wet riders, etc. being provided by the water supply line). There could also be existing water supply lines in the area. Remember, that the picnic grove and train shed likely have water service running to them. I am quite positive that the water line indicator would likely be for a hose to spray down the station floor from a protein spill. Additionally, they will likely have misters in the queue that will require water service. The station may or may not need to have a fire sprinkler system. It depends on how the architect of record classified the building, based on the occupant load and construction type of the building. The Ohio Building Code governs these things. Also, I think some people are getting plumbing/water service confused with hydraulics/pneumatics. The brakes on most coasters are operated by air pressure (pneumatics). Hydraulics generally refer to liquids through pipes, specifically those related to hydraulic pistons (like those found on Shake, Rattle and Roll, for example). Water lines are generally part of the plumbing drawings on buildings, but the lines running to the buildings (and any drainage lines), are shown on civil drawings. That was probably way more information then anyone wanted to know. I could go into more minute details about the construction process and the practice of architecture, but I don`t have all day, and it would likely bore people to tears.

How Many Different Seasons Have You Visited Kings Island?
CoastersRZ replied to KIfan73's topic in KI Polls
I made my first visit in September of 1985 when I was nine months old. I have visited at least once every year since. Most of my visits in the early years were once or twice a season. Once during P&G day, and a second visit if relatives came in from Arizona in the summer. i have been a pass holder since 1998. This year I downgraded from a Platinum to Gold. I am, however, looking forward to taking my new son to the park this year. -
We went last year. The event was a blast, even though Lightning Rod didn`t open in time. I would highly recommend it. Unfortunately, with a newborn at home (four weeks old tomorrow), we likely won`t be making it this year.
-
Kind of bummed that they went to Friday-Saturday for the event, as opposed to Saturday-Sunday like last year. Make the decision to attend more difficult, as I would have to use a vacation day to partake on Friday morning/lunch. Not sure if I will make it this year or not since I will have a six month old...

Are Water Rides Dying Out?
CoastersRZ replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I think you hit the nail on the head. These water rides are slowly disappearing because of maintenance costs compared to other rides, and people tend to not want to walk around an amusement park all day wet. Kings Dominion removed their Intamin chute the chutes rides in favor of adding Backlot Stunt Coaster several years back. I chalk it up primarily to changing tastes. Water parks are still big draws. Just look how much Cedar Fair has invested into their water parks over the last five years. -
Christmas Nights of Lights Coming to Coney Island
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
From what I hear, it was more popular than they originally anticipated. They are looking for ways to improve and expand it for Christmas 2017. -
Don`t expect anything major to hit at Coney in 2017. From what I have heard, just general park improvements. They are painting the airplane ride, per this post on the Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/coneyislandpark/photos/pcb.10157843270920526/10157843261720526/?type=3&theater

Seaworld San Diego announces Electric Eel
CoastersRZ replied to rhyano's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Seems a little odd to announce this now for 2018. Would have thought they would have waited farther into 2017 to announce this. These rides look like a lot of fun, and have a compact layout. -
Happy New Year/Trip Goals for 2017
CoastersRZ replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
With a new baby in tow (Rob was born on December 19th), my visits for 2017 will likely be to Kings Island and Coney Island only. (We downgraded our passes from Platinum to Gold for this year because of the baby). There is an outside chance that the extended family may take a trip to Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach in August, and if that happens, then we will likely squeeze in a visit to Carowinds. I haven`t been on Fury 325, and I hear that the ride is awesome. -
Silver Dollar City advice
CoastersRZ replied to TTD-120-420's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I visited Silver Dollar City back in 2015. Definitely check out Marvel Cave. I found it very interesting. Also, be sure to check out Fire in the Hole (similar to Blazing Fury at Dollywood), Powder Keg, and Thunderation. Definitely a fun park. Enjoy yourself! -
How much Longer does Racer and Beast have before they break down?
CoastersRZ replied to Xdog42's topic in Kings Island
Just because a coaster is painted, doesn`t mean anything. King Cobra was repainted as part of the transformation to the Action Zone in 1999 and 2000, and the ride was removed prior to the start of the 2002 season. Wood coasters do have the added benefit that they are continuously under construction, and minor pieces of wood can easily be replaced without manufacturing whole sections of track, like steel coasters. And to the poster that said Beast would be an excellent coaster for RMC. I whole heartedly disagree. The Beast is a classic, and should not be altered in such a way. -
Christmas Nights of Lights Coming to Coney Island
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
It is very impressive. Well worth the money to check it out. -
That image is right in the area where it flies over WWC. The trough is filled in currently for construction access. The portion of the ride structure on the right is by the train tracks. You can barely make out the train tracks beyond the structure. The train would be approaching the photographer of the picture and moving out of frame to the right.

Christmas Nights of Lights Coming to Coney Island
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
About twenty five minutes through the actual display. We went on a Monday night and had no wait to get in. However, I have heard reports that the line to get in this past weekend was close to three hours long. It is worth the wait, but I would plan accordingly, and try and visit on a weeknight if at all possible. -

That is NOT the station that they were using when I went through it. The signal for the station they were using is quite strong. I was still able to get it in my car when going down Kellogg (to the east) as far as Grove Park Grill. -
For those wondering, Winterfest has debuted at California`s Great America. Based on the images that I have seen, it seems like it will surely be a success, with lots of live entertainment. In fact, Tinker`s Toy Factory show is the same exact show (called Santa`s Toy Factory), that ran at Kings Island for Winterfest 2005 in the Kings Island Theater. An interesting note is that this show was also produced at Kings Island in the original Winterfest under Kings Entertainment. (Link to a video below from Winterfest 1991 at Kings Island. Some of the songs have been switched out, but the same basic premise. Holiday World 2017 Announcement
CoastersRZ replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Sounds like some solid park improvements for Holiday World. Glad to see a classic LeSourdsville Lake ride find a new home. -

I love the S&S Screaming Swing rides (both the one at Cedar Point and Dollywood are loads of fun). I wish KI would get one. There is a perfect spot for it behind the Eiffel Tower, right by Diamondback`s turn into the station, or over on the old Flight Commander sight.
