  1. Don`t expect anything major to hit at Coney in 2017. From what I have heard, just general park improvements. They are painting the airplane ride, per this post on the Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/coneyislandpark/photos/pcb.10157843270920526/10157843261720526/?type=3&theater
  2. Seems a little odd to announce this now for 2018. Would have thought they would have waited farther into 2017 to announce this. These rides look like a lot of fun, and have a compact layout.
  3. With a new baby in tow (Rob was born on December 19th), my visits for 2017 will likely be to Kings Island and Coney Island only. (We downgraded our passes from Platinum to Gold for this year because of the baby). There is an outside chance that the extended family may take a trip to Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach in August, and if that happens, then we will likely squeeze in a visit to Carowinds. I haven`t been on Fury 325, and I hear that the ride is awesome.
  4. I visited Silver Dollar City back in 2015. Definitely check out Marvel Cave. I found it very interesting. Also, be sure to check out Fire in the Hole (similar to Blazing Fury at Dollywood), Powder Keg, and Thunderation. Definitely a fun park. Enjoy yourself!
  5. Just because a coaster is painted, doesn`t mean anything. King Cobra was repainted as part of the transformation to the Action Zone in 1999 and 2000, and the ride was removed prior to the start of the 2002 season. Wood coasters do have the added benefit that they are continuously under construction, and minor pieces of wood can easily be replaced without manufacturing whole sections of track, like steel coasters. And to the poster that said Beast would be an excellent coaster for RMC. I whole heartedly disagree. The Beast is a classic, and should not be altered in such a way.
  6. Have they made any mention of who they intend to make their CEO since the untimely passing of Al Weber?
  7. It is very impressive. Well worth the money to check it out.
  8. That image is right in the area where it flies over WWC. The trough is filled in currently for construction access. The portion of the ride structure on the right is by the train tracks. You can barely make out the train tracks beyond the structure. The train would be approaching the photographer of the picture and moving out of frame to the right.
  9. About twenty five minutes through the actual display. We went on a Monday night and had no wait to get in. However, I have heard reports that the line to get in this past weekend was close to three hours long. It is worth the wait, but I would plan accordingly, and try and visit on a weeknight if at all possible.
  10. That is NOT the station that they were using when I went through it. The signal for the station they were using is quite strong. I was still able to get it in my car when going down Kellogg (to the east) as far as Grove Park Grill.
  11. For those wondering, Winterfest has debuted at California`s Great America. Based on the images that I have seen, it seems like it will surely be a success, with lots of live entertainment. In fact, Tinker`s Toy Factory show is the same exact show (called Santa`s Toy Factory), that ran at Kings Island for Winterfest 2005 in the Kings Island Theater. An interesting note is that this show was also produced at Kings Island in the original Winterfest under Kings Entertainment. (Link to a video below from Winterfest 1991 at Kings Island. Some of the songs have been switched out, but the same basic premise. 12. Sounds like some solid park improvements for Holiday World. Glad to see a classic LeSourdsville Lake ride find a new home.
  13. I love the S&S Screaming Swing rides (both the one at Cedar Point and Dollywood are loads of fun). I wish KI would get one. There is a perfect spot for it behind the Eiffel Tower, right by Diamondback`s turn into the station, or over on the old Flight Commander sight.
  14. That doesn`t sound good. Hopefully everyone down there is safe and there is minimal property damage.
  15. Ride foundations are designed by structural engineers. They design their footings based on information from a soils report, which is generated by taking soil core samples at various locations. Core samples are where they take a slice of earth, a couple inches in diameter several feet (sometimes 20-50 feet) down, and analyze the composition of the soil. They then produce a soil bearing capacity for the soil in that area, ie how much weight it can handle per square foot. The structural engineer then designs the foundations based on that information. That is not to say that some differential settling can occur, but the odds of that happening are not very high.
  16. I went down to Coney this evening and got to experience Christmas Nights of Lights. It was very impressive, and worth the $6 per person in my opinion. My wife loved it too. I would highly recommend checking it out. Here is a picture that my wife snapped.
  17. I read that article before it was linked to here. That is amazing that he is color blind. I too, have to deal with squirrel problems with the lights I put up on my house (I put up over 2,700 lights on my house).
  18. I can`t wait to experience this area. It has been under construction for what seems like at least five years! If the theming is on the level of Cars Land, this will be a big hit. I am still a little puzzled at them using Avatar and not one of their existing IPs for the theme, but I am sure it will be awesome.
  19. That will certainly make for an interesting ride. To date I have only experienced Outlaw Run in terms of Rocky Mountain Construction rides. Lightning Rod was down when I was at Dollywood. Based on everything I have heard about Storm Chaser at Kentucky Kingdom, if this ride is anywhere close to that, Cedar Point will have a sure fire hit on their hands. Obviously the steeper the lift, the quicker it can rise in height.
  20. The problem with Ferris Wheels is that they are not very good with capacity. Think about it, you are loading one to a handful of cars at a time (see Cedar Point`s Ferris Wheel). At Coney, our 12 seat Eli Bridge wheel, can take 7-8 minutes to completely load, if you have very experienced operators. Throw in the two minute ride cycle time, and you are looking at a ten minute total cycle, for 6 cycles an hour. You are then looking at an hourly capacity of around 150 people, which is not a lot. That is three cycles worth of people on Delirium.
  21. Yes, I could see how the way it is worded, the Military and/or senior citizens would want a $5 ticket. The press release does not say they received a discounted ticket price of $14.99, but that they receive a discount of $14.99. Which given the general admission price of $19.99 would equal a $5 admission ticket.
  22. That is a very solid suggestion. I know several locations at Disney World/Disneyland, you pay/order your food first, the move forward to the serving area. Seems to be more efficient than picking food then having to pay for it.
  23. I personally think that they could use several new attractions that can be enjoyed by multiple generations. Ie, rides that grandparents can take their small grand children on. KI used to have more of these types of rides, with the Skyride, and the Antique Cars, but they have slowly disappeared.
  24. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/whats-in-store/article115455523.html Moe`s and Famous Dave`s will open near the recently opened Cabela`s near Carowinds. The Famous Dave`s franchisor is none other than Bart Kinzel, the former Carowinds GM and son of former Cedar Fair CEO Dick Kinzel.
  25. Keep in mind that monetizing the free wifi is a way for Cedar Fair to make money so that they can pay the cash distribution to unit holders, while still being able to invest in the park.
