  1. Hopefully he is ok and able to recover. I wonder exactly what happened. Ie, was something not done according to procedure, if he was hit by a train. I`m sure this will have an impact on the crew at Indiana Beach. I know Coney`s four rides mechanics fairly well. I would be saddened if something serious like this ever happened to them at Coney.
  2. Yes, there were several days in that stretch in Cincinnati where it was unbearably hot outside. Why do they hold the fair so late?
  3. It looks to me like the discs are purely aesthetic and serve no function to the ride. But then again, I am not a ride engineer, so they may in fact serve some purpose.
  4. Nowadays, woods use preservatives in the drying and milling process. Pressure treated wood can withstand moisture and exposure to the weather, thus not needing a protective coating of paint or stain.
  5. I think that people need to think "outside the shed" for what is in the shed. I am eagerly awaiting riding this thing. I love riding Thunderhead at Dollywood, and I am sure that this ride will be a hit with the general public.
  6. Having been to Canada`s Wonderland, they do have a very impressive collections of flat rides. I wish Kings Island would get some new flat rides in the coming years. There are several spots that could really benefit from some flat rides at KI to help round out the collection. I am not a huge fan of the name though.
  7. I think it is safe to say, that Cedar Fair will never do that to KI. The park makes them a lot of money. WildWater Kingdom suffered from a lack of investment. And I think part of it was that they wanted people to visit Cedar Point from Cleveland and stay in hotel rooms. Competition was just too close. Now I wonder if they will ever be able to do anything with the land to get some money from it.
  8. Don`t you mean that your off season won`t start in October next year?
  9. And I believe that the only parks to not have announced yet are Michigan`s Adventure, Canada`s Wonderland and Kings Dominion. So far no new B&M coaster is coming to a Cedar Fair park in 2017. When was the last time Cedar Fair did not install a new B&M ride?
  10. As others have said and I said in other threads, they announced this so early so that they can sell more season passes for next year.
  11. It would be awesome if they replaced the lights on the IStreet buildings with LEDs that will not burn out quickly, but also that could change color. Just imagine what they could do for Winterfest, Haunt, and even the fireworks with those lights...
  12. They announced Winterfest so soon in order to sell more season passes. Guess what just went on sale? Perfect time to pitch an added benefit to the passes that are bought and to drive increase sales of said passes.
  13. Carowinds also announced Winterfest. I agree, that free admission for gold and platinum pass holders is a huge plus. I am sure that will help attendance tremendously, as well as boost spending inside the park. This is likely a capital investment, as they are going to be investing in decorations, and other permanent fixtures needed for Winterfest. It is my understanding that most of the stuff from Winterfest 2005 was rented and not actually bought by the park. (At the time CBS, was trying to market the parks for sale and didn`t want to invest a lot of money into the parks). Admission for pass holders to the 2005 incarnation cost $22 and you had to pay for parking! General admission ran $25. I loved the Santa`s Toy Factory show, which was actually a redo of the same show from the 1992 version of WinterFest.
  14. WCPO (Channel 9) is live streaming the announcement on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/WCPO9/
  15. I am not thrilled with the new name of Vortex at California`s Great Ameria, as there is already a Patriot ride at Worlds of Fun. But it does tie into the theming of the area that the ride is in, so I guess it is ok.
  16. Just as long as the gold pass is still valid for unlimited visits the rest of this season since we will be renewing. I`d hate to have them tell me I only get one free visit. If they let me keep the Platinum card, that won`t be an issue. KingDingDong, that free bring a friend ticket was listed on the main KI page, and is not currently listed in the perks for buying a pass. Way back in the day of Paramount Parks in the late 90`s early 2000`s, they used to give you two tickets to bring friends in the post season when you renewed your pass before the end of the season. But back then, a purchased pass was good for the remained of that season with unlimited visits. So if you bought a 2017 pass now and did not previously have a 2016 pass, you would get unlimited visits the rest of this season and next.
  17. So a couple of things. First, I do not see any mention of a preview day for renewing pass holders for the 2017 season. Second, if you are currently a KI 2016 Platinum Pass holder, and are going to "renew" to a Gold KI season pass in 2017, is that still considered a renewal and eligible for the Fastlane on Sundays an the free bring a friend ticket? With a baby on the way in December, we likely will not have a chance to visit another Cedar Fair park besides KI in 2017.
  18. I know that was last year. We got about 9 inches of water in the rides office from that flood. I could see Coney getting a wooden coaster again. I could see more along the lines of Voyage with a steel structure to support the wooden track.
  19. And that is assuming they use RMC for it. It seems like a perfect candidate. How long did the overhaul to Ghostrider at Knott`s Berry Farm take? Again, a much better climate as well.
  20. And the ugly has been taken care of...
  21. I haven`t heard any rumblings yet about what could be new for 2017. With the big addition this year at Sunlite Adventure, hopefully the rides side will get something new. Only time will tell. If I hear anything that I can talk about, I will certainly let you know.
  22. Rest assured, I am sure that someone knows what is going on in the shed. They just aren`t telling very many people at this point.
  23. I saw an article in the last few days which quoted the developer saying they were going to submit revised drawings for the wheel to the COE. They did state that there would be no firm timeline until the Corps gives their approval, but that there would be about twelve months of construction once approval is granted. See more here: http://www.cincinnati.com/story/money/2016/08/08/army-corps-raises-newport-ferris-wheel-project-concerns/88436252/
  24. I thoroughly enjoy Thunderhead. It is non-stop fun. I hope to experience Lightning Rod in early November when my wife and I pay a second visit to Dollywood this season.
  25. Thoughts go out to the family. And those that witnessed the tragedy. So my immediate reaction is if there was a minimum required age, were they actively enforcing that requirement? For example, the Fender Bender ride at Coney Island has a minimum requirement of 32" and 5 years old to ride. What is to stop a parent from telling the operator that their kid is actually five when they are not that age yet, just to get them on the ride. While a kiddy bumper car ride is no doubt more tame than a serious thrill ride like the slide in question, parents have been known to circumvent safety measures and/or lie in order to get their kids to ride rides before they are truly tall enough. I am in no way saying that the parents in this situation did any of that. It will be interesting to see what caused the accident, and what, if any, modifications are made to the ride.
