Coney's Appalachian Festival w/Special KICentral Discount
CoastersRZ replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Coney Island Central
The event was held this past weekend. As is usual, it was the first weekend the rides were open. It was actually a bit busier on Saturday this year compared to last year, although mother nature dampened the mood on Sunday. -
I haven`t heard of any school district`s down here switching to that. I will say that at Coney, we had enough trouble getting people to work in August as it is. Last year was awful for staffing in August. The switch from quarters to semesters for UC and OSU really hurts, as UC used to start in mid-September, which used to help, but now they start mid August.

Well, for clarity, they are called footings. And yes, flood waters do pose an issue, but some of Coney`s other rides have withstood flood waters before. It is time that they added something over on the pool side. The last addition was Twister, added in 2009. The rides have received several new additions the last few years, including last years two new attractions (Top Spin and Fender Bender), which were new additions and did not replace anything (meaning there are now more rides at Coney then there were in 2014), and two more rides for me to have to staff and schedule employees for.

Yes, Universal theme park tickets have been raised several times, and are pricey. But the price is worth it. Comcast has certainly been spending a lot to invest in THEIR theme parks. Google has to make money somehow in order to help pay for some of the infrastructure that YouTube requires. Just think of all the data that they have to store just for YouTube alone. Not to mention the free stuff that they do offer, such as gmail. Google has stock holders to answer to. As an aside, but slightly related note, Time Warner Cable`s purchase by Charter Communications is inching closer to approval. (Saw an article on it this morning). Originally, Comcast was going to buy Time Warner Cable and sell off some markets (including Cincinanti) to Charter to abide by anti-trust issues. The deal fell apart and Charter Communications ended up purchasing Time Warner Cable.

I can think of a handful. Flight of Fear at Kings Island did not open until June, and other than some minor issues, has become a fairly reliable ride. Hard to believe that the ride is 20 years old this year.

Worlds of Fun 2017
CoastersRZ replied to Creed Bratton's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Where at in the park is that banner located? I visited Worlds of Fun last season. -
I was using the app in the park on Saturday morning, trying to get wait times. The app thought that I wasn`t in the park (I was on the park`s wifi, and my location was even shown on the map), so no wait times were displayed. That feature was working for me Friday night.

Kings Island Band Organ Work 2016 (Updated 7/14/16)
CoastersRZ replied to hosscat's topic in Kings Island
Thanks for the update and taking the time to help Kings Island preserve this wonderful piece of history! I thoroughly enjoyed riding the carousel multiple times this weekend to hear the band organ playing. It just adds a magical element to the ride that can`t be replicated with piped in music. -
I agree that the left turn into the parking lot from the north is problematic. Those poles made it confusing as to where exactly to turn into. Hopefully, they will install a left arrow at that light. Also, I did not like how they had multiple turn offs after proceeding past the toll booth, but had these all blocked off, so all the cars had to merge into a single line. Upon leaving the park around 12pm on Saturday via the south exit, there was not a clear exit path to exit the parking lot as the lines of incoming cars were being funneled past the south exit. I to agree that they needed to at least paint the parking lot lines. Hopefully they will do that soon, as the spots I parked in on the preview night and on opening day were barely visible as spots, because the lines were so faded.

Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
CoastersRZ replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
The correct terminology is a footing. Footer is slang term. Just like when people say, "that cement sidewalk," they are using the wrong terminology. Cement is an ingredient in concrete. It is the glue that holds the sand, aggregate and other admixtures together. It reacts chemically with the water in the mixture in a process called hydration. Onto the subject of the trees. When the train originally opened, the trees that were behind the train station and by White Water Canyon were far fewer and much smaller than they are today. Trees grow over time. I was hoping to ride the train last night during the pass holder preview event (it was down) and was down again this morning when I was at the park, so couldn`t check anything out first hand. It will be interesting to see what develops... Remember, Carowinds moved their Xtreme Skyflyer the season before Fury 325 came into existence, just like Cedar Point moved the Tiki Twirl a season before ValRavn came into existence. Just like KI moved the funnel cake stand... -
Technically, concrete isn`t dried. It is cured. It is a chemical reaction between the cement and water known as hydration (the water doesn`t evaporate, but reacts with the cement). And as others stated, they likely aren`t tearing up the asphalt at this point in time. Maybe they are sealing the asphalt, but even then, that is unlikely this close to opening.
-
Yep. They moved them to the scrap yard. They are high capacity rides, but do not have a high appeal. For some of the same exact reasons stated in this thread.
-
I like the look of that sketch. Certainly would dress up the entrance. And I like the look of the flags. It is similar to the false front they constructed to the main entrance last year for Haunt.
-
And if you have to pay to see the referenced images and said user posted them for free for all to see, that is also a big no no. Posts with offending images will magically no longer exist.

Looks to me like just some landscaping work going on. That concrete there was added last season, in conjunction with the renovation/addition to the International Street funnel cake stand.

They could always go the route that Disney has and tie biometric data to passes. When using Disney multi-day tickets, which are non-transferable, it is linked to a finger print scan. That being said, I don`t see Kings Island doing this. It will be interesting to see exactly how these lanes work.
-
I am sure that they have a system in place to prevent such things from happening. It could be that they have a couple lanes dedicated to strictly passholders but still staffed with employees. Since they do not have to do deal with handling cash, it should speed up the entry process.

If they are going to put the third Diamondback train on the track, only the transfer bay closest to the midway (farthest from the station) has the winch mechanism to lift the trains from the ground onto the storage track.
-
Hopefully its third train makes an appearance soon. Hopefully they don`t do what they do with the third Adventure Express train (they haven`t ran three trains on AE recently, because the third train didn`t increase capacity much more than when there are two trains). They rehab the third train during the regular season, and then when the off season hits, they only have to rehab one of the two trains over the winter, as they already rebuilt one during the regular season. There was a tweet or Facebook post by the park the other day saying "Work being done by the entrance and exit of the train station" and that was exactly what I thought about. Technically, they are called pavers.

That is very true. The LEDs were older, and were not very eye popping, like those on Shake Rattle and Roll. Hopefully this will add some nice features at night. Now lets hope they give the Monster an updated lighting package. I love the blue color of the structure. Kind of wish they would have painted the cars as well. They do not seem to fit the bright blue color. It would also be nice if they added some additional flat rides to Coney Mall with some awesome LED light packages. I have long felt that the former Salt Water Circus site (the grassy area by the turnaround for Diamondback`s pull into the station), would be a good spot for a flat ride, as well as the former Flight Commander site, and between The Racer and Flight of Fear. Kind of bummed that Carowinds is getting four "new" flats for next year. Hopefully KI can feel the same love for flats one year.

Where is your source for this new color scheme and LED lights on Scrambler? BTW, Scrambler has had LED lights on it for several years now.

Heide Park or Europa Park
CoastersRZ replied to Infinity's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Of course we care! You will have to share your thoughts on Europa after you return from your trip! Sounds like a fun time!
