  1. Generally mega coaster refers to any steel coaster that mimics a wooden coaster, tall lift, and lots of air time hills following that. A hyper coaster refers to a ride that has a lift height of at least 200 feet. Sometimes hyper coasters can be referred to as mega coasters (B&M calls their hyper coasters mega coasters, for instance.) A giga coaster is a roller coaster that breaks the 300 coaster.
  2. Now why would Coney need a Caterpillar ride anyway?
  3. Yep. Timberwolf is pretty antiquated. (The Paladium at Carowinds is a lot nicer venue (at least from what I`ve seen when visiting Carowinds). Riverbend Music Center, and the adjacent PNC Pavilion are nice venues. Jimmy Buffett used to go to Timberwolf back in the days before Riverbend (the term parrothead was actually coined at a concert at Kings Island). But nowadays, those acts go to the much larger Riverbend Music Center. A little known fact is that Riverbend Music Center is actually owned by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. And most concert goers actually park in Coney Island parking lots. And Riverbend concession stand workers are actually Coney Island employees.
  4. Those new handrails, and ramps, are a result of the latest ADA (American`s with Disabilities Act). The Department of Justice updated the original ADA with a set of standards in 2010. These new standards went into effect officially on March 15th, 2012. In one of the conference calls, it was mentioned that the Cedar Fair parks as a whole would be spending some money to upgrade the accessibility of the parks. Another change which you may not notice on Beast and Racer`s exit, in addition to the new handrails, are pieces of wood places along the bottom edge of the ramps where the railing used to stop. This to is a result of the ADA changes. Additionally, there is a new family, ADA compliant restroom located at the restrooms next to WindSeeker.
  5. No, the ride did not look like it was quite ready for the season.
  6. Somebody knows... They just aren`t talking...
  7. I`ve heard some rumors, but nothing concrete that I care to share about right now. As the full timer posted, it will be very exciting indeed. I can`t wait to see it for myself! You`ll just have to wait until the cat gets let out of the bag!
  8. This image was just posted to Coney Island`s Facebook page by one of the full timers. Along with the image he stated "Not to let the cat out of the bag but somethings coming in 2013. Very exciting. Well, to me anyway."
  9. I am fascinated by all of this stuff. Are there more images? Please share them if there are more of them!
  10. Ah, good old Nickelodeon Splat City. I remember back in 1994 when I got to go to the park in early September, they had barricades up around broken pavement with green slime bubbling out to promote the new area. Any one else remember this? The area has been revitalized many times since then, most notably in 2001 when the log flume was renovated and the Vekoma coaster (now Flying Ace Aerial Chase) opened.
  11. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20120419/NEWS/304190173/Kings-Island-s-Racer-celebrates-four-decades-thrills-?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE Check out the image from 1977. Can you imagine waiting in that line to ride The Racer?
  12. Excellent post. I can`t wait to see the rest of the article! Thanks for sharing!
  13. While I often saw the Zoom Flume at Coney, I never once rode it. In fact, I still have not been on Pipeline Plunge or even the "new" Twister slide at Coney. And this is its fourth season.
  14. I wonder what cut Dippin Dots got from every item sold in the parks/venues. They always seem to do good business. And $12.7 million seems relatively cheap, considering that the company owed about that much. Hopefully, the new owners can make the company profitable and turn things around.
  15. Whenever I think of Zoom Flume, I think of the now defunct water slide that used to reside at Coney Island. It was replaced by the Twister in 2009. The Zoom Flume opened at Coney in 1977. They are also all about the alliteration too! Rendezvous Run, Tropical Twister, etc.
  16. I thought I`d bump this thread, seeing as Ryan and Ronny`s second episode of their radio show airs in just over 35 minutes. I enjoyed it last week. Do be warned though, that some sections of the show may not be appropriate for younger ears (some language is used). But I thoroughly enjoyed the show last week. Well worth your time. Keep up the great work guys!
  17. Yes, the topic certainly makes one think to a time when jingle bells, snow and a big man dressed in red are prominent. I for one am glad that amusement parks are beginning to open again. Too bad we have to wait so long for Kings Island to open this year. I miss the days when they would be open in mid-April. This end of April opening is no fun at all.
  18. The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) has released their April edition of FunWorld Magazine, their trade magazine. The feature story is an interview with Cedar Fair CEO Matt Ouimet. Definitely worth a read. http://www.iaapa.org/industry/funworld/2012/apr/features/RightTime/index.asp
  19. As far as I know, the fountain will be similar to how it has been the last few years. The clock is over by Tilt A Whirl.
  20. Rides come and go. Kings Island is a different place now than what it was even five years ago. Things change, and there is nothing we can do about it. If things didn`t change, look where we would be now. There would be no internet, or computers. Simple things like communication are now instantaneous, whereas before, you often would have to wait for letters to arrive via snail mail.
  21. And the plot continues to thicken... Apollo, it seems, has run into trouble with several of their las attempted buyouts. They do own some pretty notable brands though. AMC Entertainment, Claire`s, Caeser`s Entertainment, Norwegian Cruise Line, Centurey 21 and Coldwell Banker realtors, and CKE, which owns Hardee`s and Carl`s Jr. restaurants.
  22. And for anyone wondering, the company that bestowed those safety awards on Kings Island is Jeff Ellis & Associates. They train and certify hundres of lifeguards at parks all across the country. Some of the other parks that use Jeff Ellis and Associates include Hersheypark, Walt Disney World, and Cincinnati`s Coney Island In fact, Coney Island`s lifeguards also just won the Platinum International Aquatic Safety Award as well.
  23. Just to the left of the Ice Cream stand in the Action Zone. The exit to the ride was just to the left of th current exit for Delirium (to your right as you exit Delirium). Before the Action Zone overhaul in 1999, King Cobra used to exit directly into a gift shop.
  24. Awesome photo. I believe that that picture was from when the park shut down King Cobra after there was a death on Shockwave at Kings Dominion. (Right around 1999 or 2000, I believe). As always, excellent photos, Paul. I look forward to #98 on Monday!
  25. I`ve been listening to the show. It is very entertaining. Congrats guys. Can`t wait to hear future shows.
